Is it good old Dick or that bastard Dick or something in between?

It all depends on the level of familiarity between the speakers and context, I = that bastard is about right, if your friend don't mind being called 'that bastard' in their own circle of friends then it is used in endearment

In proper use, I would only be used in register preserved for lesser thing, like animals pet or inanimate objects, ไอ้หมาตัวนั้น = that bloody dog

  2. Maybe those T.M.30 forms are actually good for something, it could be as easy as that they used a credit card somewhere in the mall, and was seen on camera using it at the cashier, hence the police has a name to match the person seen taking the purse, and searched it against list of names submitted by hotels

Don't buy or eat Muslim Halal meat in any form anywhere.

In Thailand, all the Chicken and Beef are Halal everywhere, even breads and noodles are Halal,

If your objection is with the slaughter method especially, I'm afraid Thailand is not for you

  4. A guy on motorcycle has already been killed on top of the tunnel trying to go straight on the right lanes that turn right into Klang, hit the kerb and into the traffic lamp post, and the next day after that a similar crash by speeding youths late at night hit the same spot, not dead unfortunately

This was a few minutes ago.  Burger King and Sizzler crowded.

A lot less foodies here I guess.

    Too bad it is good.

When they give you a ticket with queue number that probably start counting since they start service for lunch, in the evening, I got a ticket with as low as 20, can't imagine a place that size only having less than 20 customers for the whole day!

  6. I have a Ford mechanic ex-dealership guy who does a lot of repairs on Fords and Mazda and has good access to parts, unfortunately not in Pattaya, otherwise most garage should have obd reader now, they might freak out if they're only used to Toyotas and Hondas.

Bosch Service in Esso petrol station Naklua, north of Bangkok Hospital can definitely read the code and look it up, but they can't diagnose for much, only replace parts

I got a chance to try that new Udon place at Big C Pattaya Klang. The noodles themselves were great. They better be. I had the Tom yum flavor. OK but the meat was pretty crappy including fake crab and some kind of processed ham thingie that they couldn't pay me to eat. I saw fried foods just sitting there. Yuck. But I guess depending on what you order they probably fry up fresh sometimes. I'd eat there again for different noodle dishes but wouldn't make a special trip.

Sent from my Lenovo A7020a48 using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

You can ask them to fry a fresh one for you, too bad the menu is very limited, but I saw some of the 'express' branch like this in Bangkok Food court and they had different menu, so hopefully it's on a rotation, their nearest 'proper' full-format restaurant is in Robinson mall in SriRacha, not really worth a trip though

  8. I've had my bike that's not been taxed over 3 years and they say it is no longer on their system, when I went to pay for all the back taxes I had to surrender the numberplate, and the green book was given back to me stamped to the effect of 'not on road/roadworthy' and I think that is the only thing if I want to re-register it, if I were to lose the green book, there would be nolonger any record of the bike in their system, maybe there'll be a paper record of the VIN and previous registration somewhere, but good luck trying to get the jobsworth to dig it up for you

Mos Burger were in Central Festival on Beach Road a few years ago.

Ah yes, I remember now, 5th floor near the car park exit, Became 'Little Home' Thai bakery from Bangkok after that and now is some hipster Japanese restaurant at the moment

After so many failed Japanese chains in Central Festival, (Coco Ichibanya, Pepperlunch) I must have lost track

  10. Thais would never specify if they're talking about the 'city hall' กทม or the capital, adding เทศบาล or ราชการ infront is just not done, you'd have to gleam from context if they're talking about the capital or the government body

  11. Everywhere it used to be 72 something without the promotion, but with promotion it's around 69,

so now the *normal* - non promotion price is now 69 for five cans, whenever they got rid of the buy 5 get 1 free packaging, the normal price is sure to go up

If you paid 69 for six can before, that means your retailer is good in giving you the sale all the time, you pay the same as before

if you got it from other place where it's 72+ before, the new price from Coke itself is now cheaper

  12. I've had too many times walked into Carls's Jr. in both Bangkok and Pattaya only for them to tell me ' No hab beef' only for me to laugh in their face all too often this year now

Most of the fast food Burgers place (except McDonald's?) uses Australian Beef which although more expensive than Thai is less varied in price and quality, and is more dependable to set price to... until the supplier ran out of their import quota... which unless they can find a new supplier, they're not gonna get anymore until next year.

  13. I have a feeling that the more syllable Thai nicknames have, the more it becomes: 'Stripper Names'

Had the pleasure of flying Nok Air the other day and all their hostess introduces themselves with a นก+their 2+syllables nicknames like:

    นกน้ำหวาน

    นกลิ้นจี่

    นกข้าวต้ม

I don't think their parents call them by those names

Now you mention that, it has just triggered my memory from when I used to live in Pattaya years ago.

At the Second Road/Central Road junction when turning left into Central Road towards the beach, there was a sign which said รอสัญญาณ or maybe เลี้ยวซ้ายรอสัญญาณ It was only in Thai, no English translation.

Hence the it was a favourite for the BIB to pounce on non-Thai readers and fine them when they did try to turn left on red.

IIRC doesn't the regulation say say something like you can turn left on red unless specified otherwise?

That was 'Turn left... waiting light' sign, that's badly translated from Thai

That junction is in practice.. free left turns when there's no police presence, or even then when they feel like it

The regulation says only left turn when red is allowed where there's white arrow in blue circle sign or เลี้ยวซ้าย ผ่านตลอด in Thai
