  1. I have taken both valium and Inderral (propanolol)

Valium is available only at Hospitals Pharmacy on doctor's script, a visit to mental health department will get you that, in Thailand there's 2 'brands' one private one and another from GPO the Government Pharmaceutical Company which is prescribed at government hospitals, which might be cheaper, but navigating the Thai hospitals like Banglamung to get them to take you to the right department in English with English speaking specialist might be a challenge,

a visit to international hospitals like Bangkok Pattaya or Bumgrunrad in Bangkok will set you around 1000 baht a blister pack of 10, plus doctor's consulting fee and hospital fee of another 6-800

I've been given Inderral which is a beta blocker to be taken three times a day and that has acted as a 'circuit-breaker' or a disconnect from anxieties  plus they're available at pharmacies without doctor's prescription

  2. In Bangkok where fares even Songthaews fares are regulated you only get fixed fare no matter the ride, but some might be in odd number like 16 or 18 baht, but they normally only travel up and down the one soi

the non-round number for the fare is probably  due to moderate increase each time... if we had that in Pattaya maybe another complaint might be that another group of people is annoyed at the small change they get from Baht bus, and 3-7 baht is not worth anything 'back home'

  3. The bodysnatchers usually has a fully equipped EMT trucks shared among their group with appropriate cutting tools, so ask your local motorcycle guy for Sawang Boriboon, they probably are or has a mate that is a member and can call on them, the price might be that you get your face posted on the local news if it's a slow news day, the worst is that they misunderstand your request and ship you to Bangkok Pattaya where you are discharged with 10,000 baht bill

I think that เสนานีเวศ exists and I used to walk to a ฐานะนิเวศ (probably spelt wrongly) to play tennis, so I see a housing estate when I hear นิเวศ
    จันทรเกษม happy moon?

    Probably  ถาวรนิเวศน์ ถาวร=permanence

นิเวศน์ is another good suffix for township  literally when used along it denotes more of 'ecology'

Project names for หมู่บ้าน during certain periods (from the 70s-90s) are constructed in similar fashion

    Some that comes to mind:

    เมืองทอง

    เมืองเอก

    นิชาดาธานี

    เสนานิเวศน์

    เสนานิคม

    ประชานิเวศน์

in some use of combination the first syllable is dropped and you get many more  -เวศน์

  5. Marugame Seimen Express

Japenese Udon (Thick Noodles) specialist /quick service styled restaurant

After many branches of this chain in Bangkok and Sri Racha, their Pattaya branch is now open in Big C Extra Patta Klang (Central Rd.) in the middle of the food court where Sunrise Tacos used to be and many restaurants has since failed in that location..

They have their signature fresh pressed udon (thick noodles) in various broths and Tempura deep fried battered sides from vegetables, hard boiled eggs and of course prawn.

Being an 'express' version of their restaurant the menu is limited, but the noodles is still made fresh on premise and you can request the deep fried tempura items to be made fresh.

this is the link to the menu for the proper restaurant, the express format in Pattaya has even less than half of that

The price is around 80-100 Baht for the main noodle dish and about 30-40 baht a piece for the Tempura sides

  6. Trying to move the discussion from the structure thread, about the 20 vs 10 baht, which although has been done to death

imagine if everyone starts paying 20 baht, that's a 100% increase, it might not matter to you and you are entitled to 'tip'

but behavior like these is why we ended up with 100+ bath taxis that refuses to use the meter and take locals because to tourists, it's only a few pounds or dollars mentality

Darn, I was about to head there to cycle! Need to check out the bike shops now

The area around there, especially Wat Yan is pretty good to cycle on, moderate hills and light traffic save the few odd tourist coach

Otherwise in the city centre, there's Pratamnak hills which has jogging/cycling tracks closed to car traffic, a bit short at only 6-8Km per loop but can be quite steep

Went there the other day to take advantage of the promotion on health checkup packages. Was walked through the registration by an absolute goddess. All I could say was yes, yes, anything! She had mercy on me and signed up for the next cheapest. With great power . . . and all that. Well, then it was difficult to leave and then to drive home. Some serious scenery in that place.

that'd get me a serious case of white coat hypertension, and maybe difficult to get prescription for ED in there as well

  9. Does where you get on matter? Where is the 'Jomtien-Pattaya border' Is it at 3rd road - South Pattaya under the overpass?

If you get on between 3rd road and South Pattaya or even further up, do you still get charged another 10 baht to cross Klang?

Or does the (some) bus operate on the principle that they 'terminate' on Klang but actually continues onwards and anything past Klang is considered another journey but they let it slide if you get off before Central Marina

    We're not snobs here.

We cover it all, even fast food.

TEXAS CHICKEN (fried chicken and sides) will open it's first location in Pattaya at Marina Mall (front area).

Texas Chicken is the brand used by the huge U.S. Church's Chicken franchise internationally. Of course they compete with KFC but they also own a separate popular brand Popeye's.

I don't have an opinion of Church's over KFC as I don't eat any fast food fried chicken here and I've never even tried Church's in the U.S. I assume they try to differentiate from KFC in some ways.

But why not Popeye's?!? That I like.

Texas Chicken have recipees that's less spicy compared to KFC that has adapted to Thai taste over the years,

I haven't tried KFCs in the US but I'd say Texas Chicken taste like what KFC in Thailand used to taste like 20-30 years ago, and they have biscuits/bread that KFCs used to have back then too

  11. Kasalong -Northern Thai Food

In the new 'Tree Town' Market in Soi Buakhaw, South of Cafe Pitini

Has all the usual northern fare, various chilli dips, Khao Soi (Chicken Only) is definitely better than S&P

but popular things like the Sausage were running out by 7-8 PM with promise of more flown in from Chiang Mai next day

Nice outdoor rooftop dining area but could be noisy when the market has concerts and such going on

  12. In traffic sign and law

    เลี้ยวซ้าย ผ่านตลอด

is a concept foreign to right hand drive countries like UK and rarely found in Australia

but borrowing from the American there's 'Free right turn', so the translation of the Thai sign should be

    "Free left turn"

as a road sign, is that clear enough to be understood by international audience?

I understand in Europe there's 'Right turn on red' in local languages

Another Thai traffic rule that I can't find concise translation that would suit appropriate road sign for is

    ช่องซ้าย ผ่านตลอด

where in a T junction with secondary road to the right, the leftmost lane can go straight ahead without stopping on red light

There's purpose built 20Km bike track built up behind Silverlakes that runs through the forests there,

Vehicular traffic (cars etc) is actually blocked from using it.

I understand it was built under the instruction of HRH

That track is closed at the moment, but due to reopen soon, they're installing railings and fences along the steep hillsides now

Most bike shops like NumChai in Naklua has rides every Sunday and organize the occasional regional races from time to time
