you need to broaden your horizons a bit, there are rooms for 3-4000 Baht a month, might not be the standard in what we consider to be 'apartment' or livable. Some cheap charlies westerners do live in many of these room rental place
these rooms are not advertised at the real estate agent
some business provide dormitories for their staff too

Sounds good to me, but I'm a bit wary as I read on another board a post by an Indian guy who said most Indian restaurants in Pattaya just reheat military style packets of food they buy for cheaply, like 20 baht. While I don't believe everything I hear, the fact that I see so many Indian restaurants with no customers in them, more the rule than the exception, makes me a bit suspicious as to how they are able to sustain operation.
That's what I felt when I discovered the Malaysian place. On that same street, there must be 10 Indian places and I saw not a single customer.
The abundance of sealed frozen packs of curry in the wholesale place and suppliers is worrying too, but it seems to be mostly british-styled 'balti' stuff, I guess it's mostly pub place that uses those. Indian place runs by Indians probably don't use those frozen sauces and curry

All the stores in Sweden have the per unit price thing.. so it will say like.
Price: 20 SEK
per gram: 0.1 SEK
for a bag of 200gram chips.
I always do my own calculation, specially if there is a promotion.
Thai law also require price per unit for essential things like milk and oil,

I used to shop with a calculator in Farangland and find this type of gitch too. But more common in LOS and some here are weird. Parrot soap, Gillette Fusion blades and Attack laundry detergents at Tesco Lotus. And so many others I cannot remember. Look at the level of education of the average Thai and it is not hard to understand. Even some of the back room marketing and pricing staff at some of these big places must be an eye opener for education and ability levels. Maybe no one wants to point it out to the boss or he might lose face and they lose their job. That is highly possible in some cases with the environment here. A couple of supermarket managers have made themselves known to me at times when I asked questions and staff "got the boss" and I was not impressed in their priorities. Note: I did not ask to see the boss. I just asked questions the staff could not answer.
Would you prefer if they ignore you when they can't answer the question to your satisfaction or get someone more senior who might have a chance of understanding you?

sometimes things go on sale that makes the smaller size/pack cheaper, the people making the sale/promotion can miss things and didn't notice that it will make the bigger size things cost more per item

I heard that they want to put in a pipe from the road out to sea for storm water drain to stop exactly this kind of run off erosion, but the big hotel next to that corner blocked it, as any pipe that spew murky water, (which although is not sewage) in the water is bound to look bad/worse that what it already is

or if you complain to a Thai that individual item are cheaper than bulk packs, they'd just ask you that if you're so smart in figuring out, why don't you buy the individual items then

go to your local place of commerce that allow you to procure groceries and purchase bags of mung beans, throw the bag of beans on the road when lots of them gather, works like ball bearings, but cheaper and bio-degradable

It'd say inattentive service where they just let you sit there without asking if you want anything else is worse.
Pushy place might not get a second visit from me but at least they're working for my money

Australia will not take any donations from UK people who lived there in certain years. 1980 to 1996 comes to mind all though those years could be wrong. I think it is to do with Mad Cow disease or some derivitive of it.
Thai red cross also refuses anyone that's from the UK between 1980-96 and anyone that's spent more than 5 years in Europe (and UK) since 96. But in practice, they don't ask this screener question when you turn up to donate

do you have reason to suspect that the lawyer you are using could be scamming you into paying for more of their service?

Every day, in international airports all over the world, people are denied entry or exit because of expired passports or expired visas. Stuff happens, people make mistakes. Hardly news and hardly worth denigrating someone over.
Well they choose to give interview to their local rag about it, and tried to get the help of the Home Office so i guess it's fair game.
What'd be easier though going through with getting Thai ID and passport, or just going through with the British Passport as if you've entered the country illegally and pay any fine and be out on the British passport.

Quote“It’s total bureaucracy. When we entered Thailand we should have been warned about the passport expiring...
A Thai citizen entering Thailand would have access to facilities to renew their passport before they leave Thailand again.
Was the son's Thai passport issued in London? normally the Thai passport office is very 'online' and only require the minimum of document, ID card ,which the boy doesn't seem to have, or original Birth Certificate. Was there an issue where the passport office doesn't accept UK birth certificate? Why do they have to involve the process of obtaining a Thai ID card in this case which of course will be complicated

Don't know about that particular crossing, but many crossings are illegal and why should SRT bear the cost to put in a barrier, and often when they remove the illegal crossings and put up a fence there's outcry from the 'community'
