  1. before you take roots somewhere else...... TRY it for a while. I am in my 8th location. "country living" can offer many surprises . city living..well, its city living . and neighbors and dogs and chickens and other noises and and and ... Try enough ways and places and your priorities should rise to the top. (btw.... aqi sucks many places . and at different times . burning. spraying ...traffic.. noise pollution .... ) anyway.... good luck
  2. in your situation......... i would move ! put on the old song by the Animals. pack your stuff. just do it .
  3. i really came close to moving. but i am probably more health conscious than many. Unless one has millions of dollars ....... we must make "trade offs" . eat good food ! don't take all those pills from med establisment . there are many ways to stay healthy. breathing clean air is one consideration, for sure
  4. Yep..... pretty good in CM , actually very good many days..... until the usual time, just about beginning of March. If i moved elsewhere....... i would be giving up other priorities that are met in present location: quiet, good neighbors, peaceful, green, lower humidity than close to beach, cooler mornings and evenings, many food items pesticide safe , organic, fresh from farm eggs 5 minutes away, small public pool well maintained and cheap ! , local Northern people still my favorites, country living but 15 minutes to city center , good service options ( car, cycle, builder that i can trust ) ..... and......... get to take a nice break, get away to a beach area when the pollution really hits........ "and that's all i got to say about that"
  5. i live in the real world .............. hellllloooooo
  6. are you referring to the tall posts ? (pronounced SOW , like owl) . You are building a house or ?
  7. i did stop there once. not long ago . I don't travel to meet people along the road. Thais like me more than Farangs do 555
  8. uhhh, why do you choose to live in that "god forsaken place" ? ( cm , as some long timers know....... usually has at least 8 months of good AQI , been in the green almost every day for a while, gets enough rain, nice cooler and less humid months Nov thru Jan , ............. but, i too get psssst off every feb when aqi shoots up . Nothin's perfect . ( beaches for all time have drawbacks )
  9. that beach is about 8 km north of Chumporn ! and not nearly as nice as the write up. (IMHO)
  10. Thirty years ago i made the mistake of telling people how nice Thailand was . Then the flood gates opened . I'm not going to make the same mistake telling AN members where i go to "get away".
  11. maybe he was just glad to see you .........😉
  12. i met that guy. but he gave me a pumpernickle smile . hmmmm guess he was all out of rye.
  13. But this is his best version yet and his past selves were authentic at least. Being a female takes some of the edge off of him. i think it might be another blast from the past . Emmy award winner . Either way i like the short style , and using arch nemisis trans style of short antagonisms along with coffee cup emojis is a stroke of genius . probably before the time of many here. soooo many new timers now, entering the contest.
  14. there are more than a few of us that are not able to give our honest answers . still in the minority , i guess .
  15. I never said my life turned out ok !! .............😂................. goodonyou for going (what i take was) the self-employed route . I give kudos to those who found their own way, by necessity very often. At 22 i rolled my van into SF with about 50 dollars to my name . I am very proud to say that i have at least tripled that since then ! ( thank you Beverley for taking me in at that time 🙂 )
  16. i might have had a tougher upbringing than even k. la 😉 "what doesn't kill you .............................." also gave me the critical thinking skills that kept me from succumbing to the pressures to get medical procedures forced upon me . Sundays, Holidays, Birthdays ........ never "special" as far as my feeling. Actually holidays are a pita usually, though for a lucky few that have a great family i envy them. Make the best of what cards you got ...........
  17. do you feel better now ?
  18. My Pattaya Tale : I remember Pattaya when there were hundreds of good looking "options" available . I was young and hansum 😎 , and had an ok time . Then a few years later the pickings starting to get slimmer . No, not the ladies ! They were on the kfc diet , or something similar . Still , i had to work a bit harder .... but usually met a nice, good natured salesgirl ( h*****kr) to spend some quality time with . Fast forward to ten years ago , when i made my last trip . I wasn't quite as young nor hansum, but i wasn't as keenio either . But try as i might, i just wore my shoes out trying to find something . Anything that I could imagine getting me in the mood . Only met 2 . One was grabbed up before i made it across the street . The other wouldn't go because she heard my thai and quickly said " farang rumak , mai ow " . Well, i took my new name back to my car....... and headed home. Never to return.
  19. good on you fred for calling out trolls. I don't even bother, as five word "comments" are like farts in the wind ....... and about as useful . Not funny, Not informative , Just some people wanting to be heard, but nothing to say .
  20. Remember to copy and save that 007 . In a few sentences its sums up , in a general explanation, why members on here.... and i'm sure a great number of disenchanted expats that move to Thailand....... are not happy, their lives not any better than before, and the inevitable bitterness overtakes them . I had to learn Thai, learn about interacting with Thais ( no, not being weak.... just being calmer and less "farang like" ) , and gradually I relaxed , stop trying to change everything, and learned how to avoid the bad stuff. ( a lot of that "bad stuff" being , like anywhere, with the opposite sex ) "they've maintained their sense of humor, they've maintained their playful spirit," ...................... Yep ! In spite of everything 🙂
  21. pretty much the same view I have , after being here 30+ years . If anything, when compared to the West ......... Thailand has weathered the craziness much, much better.
  22. you sound like a really incredible person .
