Had my first look at a Keeway Super Motard at the market last nite. Owner spoke good English, let me take it for a ride. Must say I was impressed i.e. what you get for what you pay. Smooth, good handling, quiet. This one had 17K on it, and no reported issues. Looked like new. Low power - but I'm a nut who believes that you can't have too much !!

One nice thing about the Altis - you will never live long enuf to see the spare parts run out. Just look at the number of taxis in BKK that run them. For well over 300,000 km

I mostly buy gas at the local station and they know me by name -
I have found this to be a good practice in most things. Sure, local may be a bit more. But such a small amount means not much to me.
Helps sustain the local economy, and am sure is appreciated. Nice to be greeted by name when you go to the market, etc.

Top Gear did an episode where they dropped a C50 or C90 from a 3 ? story building. Started it up and rode it away.

My car and truck both have locking gas caps. Require the ignition key to open. Problem solved.

As smotherb said above ... A scooter is just a machine, and like all machines it needs periodic maintenance. Given that, there is really no end to its useful life - or until the spare parts market dries up. Preventive maintenance is the key - fix it before it breaks down is always cheaper in the long run, as well as not having to deal with a dead ride at zero dark thirty.I also own a WL back in N. America, 1944, ex-military. Runs great. No front brake, suicide clutch, tank shifter and foot brake. Gives you a new skill set to starting off from a standing stop on a hill !

Done some searching on the Web. Seems NSAID's are a big No-No. Acetaminophen (paracetamol, Tylenol, et al) seems to be the preferred over the counter pain med. Anyone have a favorite - or option - ? Only required for the odd headache, and my old knee acts up sometimes, needs a little shot of Doctor Feelgood. Thanks

Thanx. Re; GTAW - que? No unnerstan.
GTAW - gas tungsten arc welding Commonly called TIG - tungsten inert gas

Nice Bike. Did you use GTAW to weld the pipe ?

I first rode dirt bikes, pre license days. Ride, fall off - Hmmm don' t do that. Ride some more - wipeout. Hmmm don't do that. And on and on. Saved my life when I got my first street bike as I had a good understanding of motorcycle dynamics - how the brakes work, how not to apply the brakes. Throttle control - throttle overcontrol. How to slide a bike, how to recover from a slide. Never heard of a school or training course to offer these lessons. Still learning.

Come to Chiang Mai. Most of them shouldn't even be allowed in a car as a passenger let alone the driver.
Lived near CNX for 10 years, LOS for 15. Do not find the drivers here any different. Now - as said before - India or the Phils !!!

Was talking with a driver in Issan last year at a Jiffy food court. Driving a Camry with blue on white plates. I asked him what they were, he said car for hire - wife translated and said private hire, not like a taxi meter. No signage on the car to distinguish it, other than the odd colored plates. First I saw on a car.

hire a bike in Vientiane.
I hope you have better luck finding a decent one that I did last year. Took a fino - best condition bike I could source. I think Noah had it on the Ark. And I had to leave my passport. Rode it one day, returned it, got my passport back, and taxi from then on. Good Luck

Very "clever" of you to find that which has nothing to do with the topic !
We are discussing Road Riding NOT rock hopping !
The Topic Title - What qualifies as an experienced rider?
-
Sometimes it can just be plain luck or eagle eyed friends riding with you.
Hear that. Been run off the road before, take the ditch or become a hood ornament. What chapter in that book covers that ?
Why not read the book and find out ?
When did you last hear of a Western motorcycle traffic policeman "taking the ditch"?
Learn to ride and stay out of the ditch !
Seems you did not understand what I wrote. Both lanes had cars/trucks, no shoulder, mountain one side, ditch the other. Where to go ?

Your "advice" is dangerous !
The "technique" of standing on pegs is not part of Advanced Motorcycle Roadcraft.
Learning how to read the road, position the bike and to identify potential hazards is part of what is taught during an advanced motorcycle riding course. .
Your lack of knowledge of off-road riding is showing. Or riding over pot-hole infested roads. Stand on the pegs - instant lower centre of gravity.
Watch Dakar - any year - and see how it is done. And these are some of - if not the - best riders in the world. All motorcycle riding is not on the super slab, or downtown.

Originated from Italy yes sir but who knows where manufactured now.
Compared to all European manufactures, Benelli only produce 20% in Asia. You want to check other numbers, because 78% of Ducati's sold in Thailand are manufactered here... While I can garantee that 99% of all engine parts are produced in China. For all motorcycles currently produced in Thailand.
The Honda, etc. fanboys will take you off their Xmas card list !

I like it, but what is it a modded Chevvy?
Front end resembles a 1957 Chev. Rear end 1959 Chev. But many mods - fenders rounded for a start.
If I had to guess I would say fibreglass body. If all steel there is some serious bodywork hours spent on it. Or it came from India, where they tell me that you can see cars welded together all the time. Sometimes right on the side of the road.

I would add - look through all paperwork received from the dealer. I have never seen any insurance sold here without an Insurance company - or agents - name in Western Script. All the major companies have english speaking staff. Phone them, start to speak English, you will probably be put on hold, an English speaking person will come on the line, state your policy number and ask away. Or even better, find the insurance company office in the town where you live and walk in.

If you buy the one on kaidee I will buy the purple floor mats from you

Well - an English expression meaning much more than. In this case well over 300,000 km means a lot more than 300,000 km
