  1. Thanks for report. Mine exactly same few months back. This next bit is not meant to be pedantic, but just in case you assist friends. There is no such thing as a retirement visa. You obtained a non imm O based on retirement.

Befor that expires in 90 days you will apply for a 12 month extension. You do that where you live. Then you no longer have a visa. You have an extension of stay for 12 months that you can extent for further 12 months upon meeting imm requirements. Happy days

Mostly true. One still has an O visa after the initial 90 days, so long as one obtains extensions to that initial visa. It's the same visa, only it gets extensions to it's validity.

I figured 'O-retirement' was sufficient shorthand to make it clear what I was talking about.

Sorry but "Visas" never have Validity extended. Your visa has now been stamped "Used" !

What is extended is the "permission to stay"

While it is still a bit of a distinction without a difference, I believe you are wrong on that point. While I was recently on an ED visa and had it extended 3 times, they certainly kept track of what visa it was that they had allowed me into the country on. They even made sure I did some paperwork to get permission to leave Thailand, because of the visa type I was here under.

Right on the form for applying for an extension it asks what kind of visa you have.

This issue has been discussed many times.

You had "extensions of stay" NOT extensions of a Visa. The visa is what allows a person to legally enter the country. Reference is made to the original (expired) visa which allowed entry when an "Extension of Stay" is applied for

  3. You will not need a re-entry permit until 28 july 2016 when the visa expires.

If you make an entry into Thailand immediately prior to 28 July 2016 you will receive permission to stay until 2017, during this time you will need a re-entry permit if travel is undertaken.

Toward the end of your 2nd year in Thailand an extension of stay based on retirement can be applied for.

  4. I went to School to be educated, not to pry into ''Teachers Private Lives''.. Thank God, i did not have a parent like you.. i would of topped myself years ago.

ever heard the expression ''Live and let Live''...

A fine concept if the "living" does not impact negatively on me or my family.

Very laudable of you, unfortunately a small percentage of pupils in every school attend with the intention of making everyone else's life hell.

The thug/bully element will show no mercy on anyone.

If they find where a teacher lives, his cars will be damaged, garden destroyed, and the buildings defaced on a regular basis. Not to mention there will be a danger to his young children or pets.

Any personal quirks or weakness, no matter how small or innocuous, will be mercilessly used against him, ranging from graffiti on the school toilet walls to false accusations of impropriety.

All the more reason for the OP not to flaunt his lifestyle.

However, he has probably already been "outed"

  5. 2. Yes but you should get the 60 day extension first.

    3. If you are living with your child's mother and all of you were present in Savannakhet when the application for a multiple entry non-o is submitted. No financial proof.would be needed.

In Penang you can get one with at least 100k baht fo financial proof.without the family being with you.

    4. To apply for a 60 day extension to visa your child they will need to be with you when you apply. You will need their birth certificate plus a copy and a copy of their house book registry. Most immigration offices will also want proof of residence.

Thank you both for the useful info.

2.It is a must to do a 60 days extension before I can get another new Single Non O from Vientiane or even Mutiple Non O from Savannakhet?

    4. Do we need to show proof of financials when applying for 60 days extension at Immigration in CW? Can a rental lease contract suffice for proof of residence?

    Thank you.

    .2. No

    4. No "finances"

They might ask for proof of residence but I have no idea if a rental agreement will suffice

  6. we have spent six hours on each of two days to immigration. we came well prepared. we were polite well dressed. there are some impediments. we have recieved offers of shorter extensions -- 30 day, we accepted immediately, it was rescinded by a higher up.. we have made some friends, but there has been a final no. we have now hired a consultant. i am continuing to work on this. Some thaivisa posters do not have chinese or german or saudi or french passports -- our experience is not always the same.

If you are seeking an extension based on "Medical need" you need a letter from a HOSPITAL DOCTOR which explains exactly why travel cannot be undertaken, what ongoing treatment is being provided and for how long the treatment is expected to last.

Without this letter an extension will not be provided.

  7. Thanks all! Lesson learned. I am so scared I'll probably never take a bus to Lao again.

NEVER , EVER enter any country without being cleared to do so by Immigration Officers.

You were very lucky to escape with a small fine.

Naive, inexperienced travellers should always invest in a good quality travel guide such as "The Lonely Planet" prior to leaving home.

  8. He is correct!

If he purchases a condo for 10 million Baht with money from overseas he can apply for an extension of stay based on investment.

He doesn't have ten million, he's talking around 3-4 million but would that our even 10 million qualify as an "investment" into the country of he only wants to live there himself ?

And is this meaning unlimited visas for the rest of his life if he owns a 10 million thb condo?

If that's true it would be pretty good deal for young guys compared to elite cards and the likes

No "visas" available even if the 10 million condo can be afforded!

  9. Yes my "Visa" is valid until 2016 but my entry stamp expires in less than a week.

Ok, so it's the 90 days as I said. Cross the border and get another 90 days.

For a first time extension based on marriage you need 400k on the bank, in an account in your name, not shared, for at least 2 months. As you say you don't have that yet, you wont get an extension.

He can and will get a 60 day extension if he wishes to apply for it.

Why do you persist in making unhelpful and misleading comment ?

  10. Ok, Non-O based on marriage that expires in April of 2014.

Work permit for teaching at a private school with valid until September 2016.

I do not have tax receipts and my school is now closed for break and my last stamp is valid until 16th of October.

You have a massive overstay if the visa expired in 2014!

Assuming you still have a valid multi entry visa all that is required is a border run to secure another 90 day entry.

The work permit is not in any way linked to your visa or permission to saty

  11. If I go with my French doctors prescription to a clinic (Pattaya area?) can I buy them there, paying the consultation of course ? Thank you all.

    No

Foreign prescriptions are not valid in Thailand

Best you obtain a Drs Letter (written in English) which describes your condition and the need for a codeine based medication.

Such medication can only be prescribed/dispensed by a hospital

  12. Someone mention here recently that they are also holding Retirement Visa's back for a 30 day approval, but not at all offices yet. Not sure how true that is as I am here on a Married Visa but if it is true it may mean they will start to check your residence before approval and like they do for Marriage Visas.

There are a lot of "Ifs" in all that but if I was you I would go to the office that is where I live. At least until you find out for sure if they have this 30 day waiting period and what that is for.

Kap Choeng immigration is doing a 30 day under consideration stamp for retirement extension so they can verify your residence.

Udon Thani also but no residence check.

What would it matter where you live on a retirement extention.Smells like a fishing expedition to me.Imagine doing this in Ch Mai or Bangkok, fulltime job for somebody.

Actually, they are checking up on people on retirement extensions in Chiang Mai. It's not as organized as doing a "30 day under consideration stamp", but in the past month or two CM Immigration has been visiting retirees in remote villages in District V and talking with their neighbors (not them directly) and visiting condo building in the city to talk with condo management about the foreign retirees. It's not clear if they plan to check on everyone with a retirement extension, but this is one explanation for why there's only one I/O doing retirement extensions at the new Imm. office vs. 2 or 3 before. More officers are out doing enforcement now.

The real question NancyL, is what has precipitated the sudden surge of interest.

A rhetorical question I know but my experience here tells me there is a reason behind this and it is not related to any "incident" in Bangkok

They come to house to check what exactly. They have my passport,so i can't show how old i am,they have a bank letter that i have required funds, seasoned. What else is required,a word from pooyai and neighbors to say what a keeneeaw i am.When it is my turn next Feb.it will be me asking the questions.not them.
