  1. I honestly hope tourists boycott Thailand for greener pastures. They don't deserve tourists
  2. Better not leave your barstool. They are just tricky, slimy, little <deleted>s.
  3. What was he supposed to pay the ladyboy for? Sitting with him? I wonder if there was a problem with the bill amount? 🤔 That would be typical of Pattaya. Literally, everyone (except elderly or homeless) has a smartphone and banking app nowadays. How else do they pay for their Grabs and such?
  4. Damn right. Just checked my oil investment. Permian Basin still blowing gold everywhere.
  5. 25k including tips is typical for areas like Sukhumvit, Silom, etc. etc. where staff are tipped reasonably well. In areas where they don't get tips, they just earn their basic salary. This whole thread is about tipping. What's hard to understand? I am not talking about areas with just Thai customers, cos they won't get tips. I certainly didn't say "six 2 hour massages." I said my EX does up to 6 massages a day. There are one hour massages available too, you know. And I said they generally get paid 200 baht per massage - and with a 100 baht tip - they don't need that many to get 25k a month, just 3-4 customers a day, 6 days a week. And yes, it is "typical" for massage staff to work 6 days a week, as with bar staff, and restaurant staff, too. Try working on your basic math and reading comprehension.
  6. No, in Thailand that is my experience. You were, I think, comparing service in Thailand to the US. I'd be surprised if Thailand compares.
  7. They do down Sukhumvit. Not high-end places, just your typical Irish/English/American/Sports pubs. My EX did this work for a decade and still has friends in the bars. 'Non happy ending' massage staff in Bangkok generally get 200 per massage. If each customer tips 100, then it doesn't take that many customers for them to hit 25k a month, probably around 3-4 customers a day (bearing in mind they work 6 days a week). My EX could get around 6 customers a day, but in non-tourist areas, she'd get no tips. However, in tourist areas 100 was a normal tip. Her cousin does happy ending massage in Phuket and makes 50k plus.
  8. Easily with tips. They were making 15,000-20,000 (including tips) when I first arrived back in 2009. Thai massage too, down Sukhumvit. It's pretty easy to get that even without happy endings. They'll make 50k plus if they do happy endings. Hell, where I live I saw an advertisement for a barista in a little gas station coffee shop offering 13,000-18,000 a month......and I live almost an hour from Sukhumvit, not far from the edge of Bangkok. From my experience they just bring food when it's ready without trying to serve the whole table together. Often someone is sitting there 10 mins (maybe longer) without food while others eat. Why should society expect you to pay more regardless of service standards? Many people feel obliged to leave something regardless of service standards and American restaurants often demand a tip, I think. There's a lot of social shame not leaving a tip in the West. Makes no sense.
  9. I agree. I only really like tipping when I have been given some amazing service, like a fantastic massage. Tipping just makes no sense, especially here. Why are teachers, nurses, police officers, soldiers, etc. etc. getting 15k a month, but waitresses and taxi drivers make 25k including tips? Service here usually sucks too. Maybe I'll tip them when me and my family eat our meal together at the same time. They can't even serve a table together. I understand the concept of wanting to tip, but being socially expected to do it is just dumb.
  10. This sounds like opinion, not fact. What's he done to make you think that?
  11. I never saw so many kids on motorbikes in my country. None actually. I think road deaths of children are far higher here than most countries.
  12. Because they don't tip others below them; it's all take and no give here.
  13. Thais don't tip. It's expected in tourists areas. I tip 10% for food at restaurants/pubs/cafes and haircuts. So, usually 20-40 baht or so. Probably shouldn't even bother leaving a tip for food in tourist areas. They don't appreciate it. I think they only appreciate 100+ I give a better tip for a great massage, usually 100 baht. I never tip anyone else, ever.
  14. Actually, Isaan would be OK for retirement as a single guy. I could see myself back there again. But it's not good for work and it's not really good for raising children. And it's always a bad idea to take your GF or wife back to her village.
  15. If you don't have a bank account, you wouldn't be paying tax as you cannot send money to yourself here from abroad. Surely, you aren't going to pay tax on the cash you bring in with you through the airport. Lol.
  16. Yeah, I mean I've seen working girls in my extended family earning 50k-100k a month, and I am sure some money gets sent home every month, but you should see the state of the children. They either save the money or gamble it away. But the kids don't benefit at all. I took much better care of my kid at the time and I was only earning 30k a month. Didn't save much then, of course. Lol
  17. This is the fate of millions of kids in Thailand. I am speaking literally. I have seen this play out like this many times. I lived in a small village before. This is textbook stuff. Almost nobody raises their own kids in the villages. Think of all the hookers in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Samui etc. etc. Most of them are from places like Isaan. Ask them about their family. They've got kids. They'll tell you the father did a Houdini. But they probably won't tell you they haven't visited their kids in years or that the money they make just gets saved for themselves or gambled away, but in any case: the kids don't benefit at all, nor do they even know their mother.
  18. I had quite a pleasant experience with the Thai police when I had dealings with them. Your Mileage May Vary.
  19. So, that kinda overshadows what the others did, right? You can't really blame her husband for cheating, assuming he did cheat.
  20. You see this at "rich kid" schools too. Kids walking around with 5 toes and a heel sticking out of the sock (on both feet). Parents are just feckless. Socks are 20 baht.
