  1. You can pay class 2 or class 3 national insurance while working abroad, like I am now. It's more expensive than class 1 (working in UK), but still. They also just allowed me to backpay 14 years of missed contributions since I left the UK.
  2. Suppose they left 40 years ago then hit their pension age, would they be started on the pension rate from 40 years ago?
  3. I thought they were freezing pensions to what they were when you left the country
  4. Anyone got a link to the exact details about the changes taking place from January 25?
  5. Yes, but British people generally have zero clue about investing and if they live just a few years after retirement age, they've made their money back. I do agree with you though
  6. Just a failing socialist system. Surprise surprise. British people are so financially illiterate, it's sad.
  7. And to think, they probably thought prima nocta (i.e. wedding tax) was as bad as it could get.
  8. How long do you have to be "back" before you can use the NHS for free like everyone else?
  9. You think it's fair that expats who have 'paid in' don't get the full pension??
  10. How does this frozen pension thing affect guys who have been abroad decades?
  11. Let's be honest, the locals are only getting into a frenzy about this cos it involved farang....and they were not the victims!
  12. Has this policy changed recently? I thought this was an old policy. Why is everyone talking about it again now?
  13. They are doing the opposite: divide and conquer. It's all going to plan.
  14. I lived in Isaan with the degenerates for many many years. Still have a house there. It's okay for holidays or if you are retired maybe, but you can't have a serious life there. The rice fields look nice but it's hard to avoid the pitfalls of living in a low socioeconomic area. The women are mostly gambling addicts and the men are mostly drunks. Huge number of yaba addicts, teen gangs, scoundrels, misfits, and delinquents. I suppose you think it won't negatively affect you, until it does.
  15. Where are you drinking your Guinness? It ain't cheaper than where I come from and I ain't seen them pouring a decent pint here either. I eat like a local, too, but we are talking about tourists here. They are paying a lot more to eat Thai food in the tourist areas. Tourists ain't coming to Thailand for the fish n chips. We aren't talking expat life here.
  16. Why would you come to Thailand when you could drink quality beer and good sized spirit measures in Europe for less money? The beer is pish here and you can't even taste the gin in your tonic. The food is better in Europe, too. 150 baht for fried rice in cheap oil with a spoonful of sugar, no thanks. I wouldn't fly across the globe for that. The beaches are littered and the water is so dirty you can't swim in it. The Mediterranean wins, easy. Everything is a scam or a rip off from the moment you leave the airport, starting with the "no meter" taxi. People in tourist areas constantly bothering you for your money. Culture? Please. Europe is closer. The only thing Thailand had going for it was the cheap toot, and now it ain't cheap anymore.
  17. Please, ask a farang husband who does all the work. It ain't the Thai wife.
  18. I think it's just cos women are considered more desrirable and get special treatment in general I honestly think it was white women who came up with the concept of male privilege to take the attention away from the fact they are the most privileged.
