  1. Just to keep everyone happy, Baht is FALLING STRONGLY today - against USD and thus also AUD & £.
  2. Everyone knew. Not a secret. These are Thai peasant boys. Half of them were gay-for-pay. That's how they made ends meet (so to speak).
  3. My mumbled one- and two-word attempts are greeted by my family with cheerful understanding (giggle giggle). Anything beyond that would be beyond either them or me. But I am resolved - once I've finished improving my Cherman and teaching myself to read Spanish literature fluently - to take up Thai seriously before I reach 80. 5 years to go.
  4. Things must be bad if people think that Prayut & Fatty were better!
  5. Thais need to learn that, if you want smoother entries, you have to make smoother exits.
  6. Yes, my b/f served finger food to the highest in the land (well, actually the second highest). And minded the colonel's dog and cut the hair of his platoon. He also tells me the conscripts have to pay for their own uniforms. All of which is somewhere between amusing and appalling but I must say - for an uneducated illiterate peasant boy who spoke Khmer as his first language, peasant Thai as his second - this was all for him a great eye-opener & an education in itself. He still knows all the shortcuts thru hotel lobbies and other people's backyards whenever we're in Bangers. And he met the love of his life and now speaks OK English ...
  7. Utterly disgusting. A pity the conscripts don't go on strike. That would certainly give the Powers a shock ... Back in the day (12 years ago) my b/f used to climb out over the barracks walls at midnight in BKK in search of food (and other moneymaking adventures) ...
  8. Fingers crossed.
  9. Send in the Israelis, they'll fix it. Probably working on it this very minute.
  10. Which (if true) says a great deal about what younger generations put in their mouths and what they don't do by way of daily exercise.
  11. But unfortunately it does, and particularly in the Greatest Nation on Earth.
  12. Oh rilly? How did you work that out? (Her mother was Indian; her father is Jamaican Black.)
  13. The thing about Srettha is that he has at least the appearance of NORMALCY. Something which Thailand could do with large doses of.
  14. As pointed out above, RTAF already has (aging, I assume) Gripens & F16s, so either way reconversion will be necessary.
  15. Yes, they would be wise to walk away from it. Security aspects vis-à-vis China impossible to manage. The Gripen is supposed to be pretty good (though for what that's relevant to Thailand?) and probably cheaper than the F16 variant.
  16. Mmmm, wonder what's involved in that.
  17. The early trend is somewhat towards Harris. The question is: Is that just a late starter's bump? or is it the beginning of a steady trend that delivers victory to her? Early days. Anything can happen and - this being Usofa - it probably will.
  18. Monies to maintain the vehicle have - over many years, I suspect - disappeared in to certain pockets. Whence they can only with great difficulty be extracted.
  19. All ridiculously over the top. The signal such extravagance sends is of totalitarian self-indulgence. In a modern democracy you can entertain your guests appropriately at 1/20th of that price.
  20. The UAE pair probably assumed (incorrectly) that the footpath is for pedestrians.
  21. Uniforms are very important in a society uniformly obsessed with status and therefore rank.
