  2. Tragedy struck the heart of Udon Thani province, when a popular 24 year old bartender known for his hard work and dedication lost his life in a terribly unfortunate motorcycle accident. The young man was working diligently towards becoming a civil servant and was known to be saving up to buy a new vehicle. The incident took place on Soi Inplaeng in the main city district early this morning. Police Lieutenant Jedsada Vongvai received a notification about the accident and promptly coordinated with doctors from Udon Thani Hospital and members of Udon Sawangmetha Rescue Foundation to investigate the scene. On arrival, police found a Regency 200cc motorcycle registered in Udon Thani toppled in front of a local beauty salon. Nearby, the body of the victim, known as Ohm, was discovered, with his lifeless form laying on the ground and covered in blood. Initial inquiries suggested that Ohm was moving at high speed in this usually residential road when an animal seemed to have crossed his path, leading to the fatal accident. A doctor declared him dead, and his body was handed over to his relatives for funeral rituals according to their local traditions. Having left the Nong Khae Industrial Estate in Saraburi province to deliver the popular brand of coffee to Khon Kaen province, Thien had parked by Mitraphap Road in Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima, due to exhaustion. The driver, Thien Saman, stated that he embarked on his delivery journey with a truckload of famous coffee products, sourced from Nong Khae Industrial Estate in Saraburi province, intending to deliver them to Khon Kaen province. As he approached the Mueang Ma Mile 39-40 on Mitraphap Road, in the Phaya Yen sub-district of Pak Chong district in Nakhon Ratchasima province, he felt tiredness take over, compelling him to pull over and rest by the roadside starting at 11.50pm until 4am. Upon waking up, he was shocked to find the tarp at the back of his truck had been slashed with a sharp object. A further examination revealed that around 120 boxes of coffee were missing from the vehicle, KhaoSod reported. Thien added that it was typically safe for him to rest alongside Kam Thale So sub-district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, but due to being late this time, he decided to park in what seemed like a safe spot, thanks to the surrounding street lights. 6. A teenage Thai girl filed a complaint against her drug-addled, gambling-addicted mother who physically abused her four year old brother. The 17 year old girl, Sirirat, captured videos of her mother, Rattiya, taking drugs with her boyfriend and violently assaulting her younger sibling. She handed over the videos to the community leader, Malee Kanyo, who then reported the matter to Sai Noi Police Station. During her conversation with Malee, Sirirat revealed that the four year old brother is her mother’s youngest son, and she is the eldest among five siblings. Each child has a different father, and while some of them live with relatives for a better life, the youngest one resides with their mother, Rattiya. Sirirat shared her desire for the boy to live with her and attend school, but her mother opposes the idea. On the day of the distressing incident involving drugs and violence, Sirirat visited her brother and witnessed the horrific abuse he endured. She swiftly intervened to protect him but her mother demanded she left. Determined to seek justice, Sirirat recorded the abuse to provide evidence for her complaint to the police. 8. A Thai woman and her husband filed a complaint against a hospital in Chon Buri after a doctor amputated the woman’s fingers and toes during her visit to the hospital for severe diarrhoea. This incident, which took place on April 12, has sparked controversy and speculation, with some netizens suggesting that the amputation was performed to save her life. The husband, Chai, shared his wife’s harrowing experience with Channel 3 on June 26. According to Chai, his 30 year old wife began experiencing severe diarrhoea, leading the 42 year old to rush her to a local hospital. However, due to her critically low blood pressure, she was immediately admitted to the emergency room. Upon arrival, the doctor informed Chai that his wife was suffering from kidney failure and required dialysis. To proceed with the necessary procedures, Chai was presented with a consent form requesting permission for a carotid duplex ultrasound. Trusting in the doctor’s expertise, Chai signed the document, despite his wife’s expressed concerns about undergoing surgery. However, to Chai’s astonishment, he later discovered that the surgery performed on his wife was an appendectomy, a procedure unrelated to her initial condition. Throughout her hospital stay from April 12 to 20, Chai noted that his wife did not see or interact with any doctors, as it was the Songkran holiday period, during which most doctors were unavailable. As time went on, Chai noticed a worrying change in his wife’s condition. Her fingers and toes turned dark, appearing lifeless. Additionally, she seemed disconnected and unresponsive during conversations. It wasn’t until April 24 that the doctor questioned Chai and his wife about any prior infections. It was then revealed that she had developed sepsis, a serious blood infection, leading to reduced oxygen levels and the subsequent darkening of her extremities. 12. Analysts flagged potential downswings to the Thailand Stock Exchange (SET) index due to ongoing business uncertainties in Russia and loan defaults in China’s property market. Over the past week, the SET index experienced a seven day consecutive drop, and despite brief rallying, finished in the red. Concerns stemming from smaller stock performances and news of Chinese property market default have contributed to cautious investments and overall market instability leading to business uncertainty. Recent development saw the SET index decrease by 0.49%, settling at 1,478.10 points. Rakpong Chaisuparakul, senior VP of KGI Securities (Thailand), suggests the trend of ‘sideways down’ market activity may persist due to underlying investor anxieties. These concerns, contributing to business uncertainty, revolve around international economic health and the potential repercussions of major central banks’ continued rise in interest rates. He noted the lack of impact from China’s recent fiscal stimulus on their economic situation. Asia Plus Securities (ASPS) also highlighted implications from the quickly resolved unrest in Russia, which still holds the potential for escalating anew. This instability and business uncertainty could consequently cause an increase in commodity prices, inflation hikes and, as a result, hurt stock markets, reported Bangkok Post. 16. In the South Thailand, a farmer has successfully grown a unique variety of durian, calling it a ‘volcano durian.’ Harvesting started a couple of days ago and the fruits, selling for 200 baht per kilogram, have already attracted numerous customers from across the country. Sixty year old Sai Yud Chansawang owns a durian orchard located in the Na Yung district, Trang province. With more than 350 durian trees spread across 15 acres, it is Southern Thailand’s first known volcano durian orchard. The unique durian and its tantalsing taste have lured customers from all parts of the country, creating a massive demand. In response, Sai Yud works tirelessly to harvest the volcano durians, the weight of which is estimated at about 5,000 kilograms. “Considering the price we sell a kilogram now, we generate income of nearly 10,000 baht per day or over 1 million baht annually,” says Sai Yud. She only started selling the unique volcano durians this year, though they are in their second year of cultivation. What makes volcano durian special is its organic cultivation, thin shell, and rich, aromatic flesh. The seeds too are smaller compared to the regular durian varieties, and it is surprisingly less pungent. Customers are offered free fruit tasting to make an informed choice before buying. They could also visit the orchard and handpick the durians, choosing from different grades and textures, all of which come with a guarantee against rot. 18. Vale Jason Wilder. Very, very sad news this morning following the death of work compatriot and good friend Jason Wilder. Jason passed away whilst at the Glastonbury music festival whilst resting in his on-site tent. The BBC reported the passing of one of the attendees yesterday. Jason is best known in Phuket for his long stint behind the afternoon ‘Drive’ mic at Live 89.5FM, part of The Phuket News empire at Samkong. Every show would open with “Sawasdee krub pi nong krub!” Then it would be three hours of non-stop ‘Jason’ from there on. Listeners just had to hang on and enjoy the ride. Such a natural-born engager and entertainer – solo behind the mic, or in the company of close friends and family, or in front of thousands. He was certainly the best expat radio talent than ever graced a microphone in Thailand. 20. A particularly dangerous species of jellyfish has been reported in Krabi, prompting the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources to issue a warning to swimmers in the local Phang Nga Bay. The box jellyfish, whose sting can be fatal, has been found near a pier in Ao Nang, according to a Phuket Express report. Box jellyfish are cnidarian invertebrates distinguished by their box-like (i.e., cube-shaped) body. Some species of box jellyfish produce potent venom delivered by contact with their tentacles. Stings from some species, including Chironex fleckeri, Carukia barnesi, Malo kingi, and a few others, are extremely painful and often fatal to humans (Wikipedia). DMCR officials say the box jellyfish, also known as ‘sea wasps’, were spotted near Ao Nam Mao Pier in Ao Nang. If stung, the advice is to seek urgent medical attention, bathe the affected area in vinegar for at least 30 seconds and to refrain from washing it with drinking water or alcohol, which could trigger an allergic reaction. 24. BANGKOK (NNT) - Toyota Motor announced on Monday (26 June) that it will begin producing hydrogen in Thailand starting November of this year using biogas. The move marks a step forward in the automaker’s project with local conglomerate Charoen Pokphand Group (CP Group) to utilize hydrogen as part of efforts to decarbonize the kingdom’s transport sector. Toyota said it will install equipment that produces hydrogen using biogas made from chicken manure at Toyota’s Asia-Pacific headquarters in Samut Prakan province, located south of Bangkok. The manure will be provided by Thai poultry farms operated by CP Group and other parties, as well as food waste from the Toyota regional headquarters’ cafeteria. According to the automaker, this will be the first time for Toyota or Thailand to launch a pilot project to make hydrogen using biogas. The equipment, which will be provided by Japanese engineering company Mitsubishi Kakoki, can produce 1,000 liters of hydrogen per hour. Toyota and its trading arm, Toyota Tsusho, will develop a system to compress, store and transport the biogas and hydrogen. The initiative is part of the automaker’s partnership with CP Group, which was launched in December 2022. The two companies agreed to look into making hydrogen from biogas and using it to fuel hydrogen-powered delivery trucks that CP intends to introduce into its fleet to help reduce carbon emissions.
