An unidentified foreign man was injured this morning around 6:45 A.M., July 3rd, 2023, when a tree suddenly fell on him as he sat at the bottom of Soi Pratumnak 5 near a convenience store. The man, who appeared to be Caucasian and in his 60s or early 70s, had been sitting nearby the tree and convenience store when witnesses stated that a gust of wind caused the large tree to suddenly fall, landing partially on top of him. Witnesses, who asked for their names to be withheld, said it took a car jack to raise the tree off of the man who was partially pinned by the fallen tree. The man was taken via ambulance to a hospital nearby although he appeared cognizant and aware. His condition was unknown but appeared to be non-life threatening. Multiple Good Samaritans from motorbike taxi drivers to nearby tourists to convenience store employees helped rescue the man from under the tree. BANGKOK (NNT) - Football Association of Thailand (FA Thailand) President Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmuang has announced his decision to step down, following the underwhelming performance of the U22 Thai national football team under his leadership. This follows calls by Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Thailand (NOCT), for Somyot to take responsibility for the team’s poor showing. During a meeting on July 1, Gen Prawit expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s questionable performance at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, as well as a brawl involving players and staff. The Thai team suffered a 2-5 defeat against the Indonesian team during the match, and was involved in a physical altercation between the two sides. Acknowledging Gen Prawit’s request, Pol Gen Somyot stated his intention to comply and informed the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) and FIFA of his resignation from the organization. FA Thailand will now enter a transition phase as it seeks to appoint a new president to guide and oversee the future development of Thai football. #news Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230703130359356 -- © Copyright NNT 2023-07-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. AOT Forms Committee to Probe Walkway Incident BANGKOK (NNT) - Airports of Thailand (AOT) has established a committee to investigate a recent incident involving a moving walkway at one of its airports, which resulted in a severe injury to a passenger’s leg. BANGKOK (NNT) - Airports of Thailand (AOT) has established a committee to investigate a recent incident involving a moving walkway at one of its airports, which resulted in a severe injury to a passenger’s leg. The committee, made up of representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT), the Engineers Council, Siam Hitachi Company and the victim’s family members, has been tasked with completing the investigation within 15 days. The incident took place on June 29 when the passenger fell on one of the airport’s travelators, severely injuring her left leg. In response, AOT Director Kerati Kijmanawat announced that the committee would evaluate the possibility of replacing moving walkways that are over 20 to 25 years old at all six AOT airports, namely Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai and Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai. In the wake of the incident, all 20 moving walkways at Don Mueang Airport have been temporarily suspended from service. The walkways will gradually resume operation following a thorough inspection and necessary upgrades, a process estimated to take around one month. Acknowledging that some of the travelators are over 27 years old, Director Kerati emphasized that maintenance had been conducted on them on a regular basis. However, he noted that the committee would consider replacing those older than 15-20 years and explore the adoption of new technologies, such as sensors, to enhance safety measures. The superintendent of the Don Mueang police, Pol Col Adirek Tongkeamkeaw, meanwhile reported that investigators are currently questioning individuals involved in the case while awaiting the results of forensic tests. The airport’s CCTV footage is also being reviewed to determine if the accident was caused by negligence. #news Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230703125836352 -- © Copyright NNT 2023-07-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai government has officially launched the ThaID (THAI-I-D) mobile application, a major development in digital transactions for personal identity verification. The app eliminates the need for data entry, making the process convenient, quick and secure. Caretaker Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha led the official launch of the digital identity verification and facial recognition system. The Department of Provincial Administration developed the app to facilitate access to services from public or private sectors requiring identity confirmation. 44 state agencies have so far adopted the system, and over 380,000 people have registered to use its services. Gen Prayut reaffirmed the government’s determination to transition Thailand into a digital society in line with its 4.0 policy. He emphasized that digital technology enhances the public service capacity of state agencies, making them more accessible while also reducing costs. He added that he hoped the app would be used to its maximum potential. Since its inception in 2019, the ThaID project has achieved significant milestones. The premier has called on all sides to collaborate and further develop the project into a comprehensive state service system that instills confidence and improves the image of the Thai government, while ultimately enhancing citizens’ quality of life. The Department of Provincial Administration also highlighted the need to raise public awareness about the ThaID app across all 878 districts and 76 provinces. This initiative includes promoting the download and usage of the app, especially among the younger generation, to maximize its benefits for every family. #news Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230703102653305 -- © Copyright NNT 2023-07-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. They are being removed as part of the BMA’s plan to reclaim the pavement for pedestrians and to beautify the landscape along the canal. The demolition work is being jointly undertaken by the Bureau of Public Works, the Pom Prap Sattru Phai district office and two other adjoining districts, under the supervision of Deputy Bangkok Governor Jakkapan Piwngarm. The deputy governor said that most of the 110 vendors on the pavement erect their stalls in the morning and remove them in the evening, but there are 32 vendors who have built permanent or semi-permanent structures, prompting the city’s administration to demolish all structures. #news Full Story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/removal-of-stalls-from-khlong-phadung-krung-kasem-pavements-begins-monday/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2023-07-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. The ravine is known to the locals as ‘Obnoi.’ With impressive rock formations and ancient inscriptions suspected to be thousands of years old, this is an enchanting spectacle reminiscent of a cave. The plan is to promote this as a natural tourist attraction soon. This narrow passage, possessing an alluring beauty akin to a grotto, is located in the Ban Tha Ruea area, Ban Pae sub-district, Chom Thong district, Chiang Mai. Originally believed to be an ancient waterway, the ravine is now intriguing due to its preserved natural beauty. The entrance of this labyrinthine space also has giant rocks adorned with ancient images and text, the meaning of which is yet to be deciphered. These have been photographed for expert linguists to study. There is a widespread belief that this site may have once been a secluded meditation spot for a Buddhist monk, owing to the art etched into the stone, reported KhaoSod.
