  2. Photo via Facebook/ Ko Teerasak Puntujariya A Thai singer and businessperson filed a complaint against his seemingly unhinged anti-social neighbour for a series of disturbing incidents that have occurred over the past five years. The woman in question smashed his car with a hammer, threw urine and poo at his house, and attacked an employee with liquid acid. On Tuesday, May 2, Teerasak “Ko” Phantujariya took to Facebook to share the problems he has had with his unhinged anti-social neighbour, claiming that she has conflicts with almost everybody in the area. He claims she frequently throws bags of her urine and poo into roads and streets in the community and at other houses. Ko said… “The X-Men neighbour! Please stop your dirty and evil actions. The security camera of another neighbour captured the moment when this woman threw her urine at my house. It is dirty and stinky! I am very bored of you. This is mad! No matter how much evidence I have, no government officials care. Do not ignore the mental health of people. I might die because of this neighbour and her pee!” Ko was later interviewed on several television programmes explaining that another person living with the woman displayed the same unhinged anti-social behaviour. According to Ko, the woman attacked an employee of his with liquid acid last year. The acid was thrown from the fourth floor of the neighbour’s house. His employee suffered serious burns and yet she is still at large causing chaos with her anti-social behaviour. 7. Domestic Consumer Confidence Rises for the 11th Consecutive Month BANGKOK (NNT) - Consumer confidence in Thailand has risen for the 11th consecutive month, reaching its highest level in 38 months, with experts saying the increase is driven by factors including a reduction in COVID-19 infections, the recovery of domestic tourism, and lively election campaigns across the country. 8. BANGKOK (NNT) - Consumer confidence in Thailand has risen for the 11th consecutive month, reaching its highest level in 38 months, with experts saying the increase is driven by factors including a reduction in COVID-19 infections, the recovery of domestic tourism, and lively election campaigns across the country. The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) reported that the consumer confidence index rose from 53.8 in March to 55 in April. Despite consecutive increases in the confidence index, the indicator remains below 100 points due to weak purchasing power and concerns about high inflation and interest rates. According to UTCC President Thanavath Phonvichai, the government’s economic stimulus measures, such as the "We Travel Together" hotel subsidy and state aid programs, led to an increase in consumer confidence. Additionally, the rise in tourist arrivals during the Songkran Festival, the decreasing gasoline and diesel prices in the country, and the baht’s slight appreciation against the US dollar helped boost consumer confidence in April. Despite the increase in consumer confidence, concerns remain about the high cost of living, including expensive electricity bills, and the global financial situation. The UTCC president warned that the economic slowdowns in the US and EU, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and increasing interest rates could create pressure on the global economy, potentially leading to a recession that could impact Thai exports and purchasing power. The UTCC also released the TCC Confidence Index, which measures the sentiment of the business sector and members of the Thai Chamber of Commerce in every province. The index rose to 51.9 in April, up from 50.5 in March, driven by a recovery in tourism and higher farm product prices. However, business operators are concerned about factors that keep affecting confidence, such as the PM2.5 situation, which affects the tourism industry, as well as rising electricity costs and minimum wage hikes proposed by some political parties. 10. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Board of Investment (BOI), in collaboration with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) and several prominent Thai private companies, is set to organize a roadshow in Seoul to attract South Korean investors to Thailand, with participants including major Thai firms such as PTT, the oil and gas giant, and Charoen Pokphand Group. The roadshow, set to take place from May 15 to 18, aims to unveil investment promotion measures and highlight the preparedness of Thai industrial estates in supporting South Korean investors. With an anticipated attendance of at least 180 invitees, representatives from Thai agencies will engage in meetings with over 40 leading South Korean companies, as well as members of the Korean Electric Vehicle Industry Association. The event is regarded as a significant business negotiation between the BOI, IEAT, and large private companies from both Thailand and South Korea. Attracting investment from South Korea is of utmost importance due to the country’s technological advancements and innovations in areas such as electric vehicles, semiconductors, and biotechnology. Thailand recognizes the need to secure investments from South Korea in order to advance its new economy. The roadshow will feature a seminar titled "Thailand Investment Promotion Strategy: New Economy, New Opportunities," providing valuable information on investment prospects and opportunities for business cooperation. Business negotiations and investment advice sessions are also planned. According to the BOI, South Korea has submitted applications for investment promotion for 322 projects worth 91 billion baht in the past decade. These projects primarily focus on electrical appliances, electronics, automotive parts, metal products, and digital industries. The Korea Trade Investment Promotion Agency facilitated South Korean investor participation in the "Thailand-Korea Economic Cooperation Forum" held at the Conrad Bangkok Hotel on October 6-7 last year. The event witnessed the active participation of approximately 250 Thai and South Korean investors, demonstrating Thailand’s potential to support investment opportunities. 13. Farmers Urged to Limit Rice Crop Due to Less Rainfall BANGKOK (NNT) - The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has urged farmers to cultivate only one rice crop this season due to anticipated below-average rainfall caused by the El Ni?o weather pattern. 14. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Office of the National Water Resources (ONWR) has urged farmers to cultivate only one rice crop this season due to anticipated below-average rainfall caused by the El Ni?o weather pattern. ONWR Secretary-General Surasee Kittimonthon revealed that the rainy season, typically commencing in the third week of May, would experience a delayed start this year, with intermittent rain expected in June. He added that the ONWR has devised a water management plan for the country’s dams to ensure water preservation. The success of the plan depends on close collaboration among all stakeholders, particularly farmers, in conserving water resources. Surasee emphasized that water would be provided to farmers during the first rice crop in the upcoming rainy season. However, he urged farmers to cooperate by growing alternative crops that require less water for the second and third crops, in order to mitigate water scarcity. The ONWR held discussions on May 11 regarding water management for the upcoming rainy season with several agencies, including the Royal Irrigation Department, the Meteorological Department, the Department of Water Resources, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). Due to the El Ni?o phenomenon, Surasee stated that rainfall would be approximately 5% below the average. However, he noted that heavy rainfall was anticipated from August to September, covering 60-80% of the country. He further predicted the occurrence of at least two tropical storms between August and September, which could replenish water levels in certain dams. 16. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has unveiled the "Workation Thailand for only 100 baht" campaign, aiming to boost domestic travel and encourage weekday overnight stays by providing tourism products and services at affordable prices. Under this initiative, a dedicated section will be introduced on the official TAT website, workationthailand.tourismthailand.org, featuring a comprehensive list of promotions available for interested travelers. The TAT had previously implemented a similar project in 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, which proved successful. TAT Deputy Governor for Domestic Market Thapanee Kiatphaiboon highlighted the transformation in the office-work model, allowing employees to work remotely from anywhere and stay connected with colleagues through online meetings. The "Workation Thailand for only 100 baht" campaign seeks to leverage this shift by offering privileges and discounts from leading establishments to travelers, particularly digital nomads and remote workers, with the objective of reducing their travel expenses. Thapanee further mentioned that the campaign holds the potential to support tourism businesses and potentially drive domestic tourism revenue to a remarkable figure of 880 billion baht per year. To ensure the success of the initiative, the TAT has partnered with several private-sector organizations, including the Travel Business Association, Thai Tour Operators Association, Thai Travel Agents Association, and the Domestic Tourism Business Association. As part of the campaign, the TAT will distribute 100 baht vouchers that can be redeemed for a variety of tourism-related products and services. These vouchers will be made available on specific dates, namely June 6, July 7, August 8, and September 9. 17. Banks Considering New Fee Structure to Align With Operating Costs BANGKOK (NNT) - A new fee structure is being considered by banks to reflect operating expenses for both physical and digital banking services. 18. BANGKOK (NNT) - A new fee structure is being considered by banks to reflect operating expenses for both physical and digital banking services. Payong Srivanich, president of the Thai Bankers’ Association (TBA), disclosed that bank members are discussing a new fee structure that is more aligned with actual operating costs than the current structure. He emphasized that there are greater costs for branch services but banks do not charge fees for this channel while underlining that Thailand is the only country in the world that does not charge a fee for digital payments. The TBA president also cited higher costs from security and technology investment to ensure safety for its clients. He said the TBA will discuss with the Bank of Thailand and consider all factors before finalizing the new fee structure. The TBA president stated that, while the new structure would result in increased fees for customers, all parties will ensure that clients pay them at a reasonable price and that banks can balance the fees throughout all channels. This would allow for an easier transition from a cash-intensive to a cashless society in the future. Recently, at the Peace Corps swearing-in ceremony in Suphanburi province, the Sanook team was astonished as all American volunteers were able to speak Thai fluently and even performed Thai songs. Apart from their language ability, the volunteers’ goals and aspirations for their journey in Thailand were equally remarkable, such as working within Thai communities, living with locals, and exchanging cultures with one another. 24. Image courtesy of Sanook The 4th Army Area Command has imposed penalties, including 30 days of imprisonment and suspension of annual salary increments, on a soldier who posted politically biased messages on a Line group, contravening an order by the Army Commander to maintain political neutrality. The army spokesperson, Second Lieutenant Paramote Promin, announced disciplinary measures against a soldier for inappropriate political conduct and revealed that a number of media outlets had reported the news of the improper behaviour of some personnel within the 4th Army Area Command related to the upcoming election for members of the House of Representatives on May 14. The incident was traced back to a serviceman assigned to the 401st Engineering Battalion, who posted a message in a Line group for fellow soldiers affiliated with the 401st Commando Company. In the message, the sender attempted to persuade group members to cast their votes for a particular political party. Such an act violated the orders of the Royal Thai Army Commander, who had established policies and guidelines for the conduct of military personnel under his command. He had instructed all personnel to comply with election laws, particularly the provisions guaranteeing the right to vote and ensuring personal freedom in casting ballots for suitable candidates while maintaining political neutrality.
