  1. Just to be clear, there is no 7 day extension. You apply for an extension and if you have no valid extension available to you, you are given 7 days to leave Thailand.
  2. Really wish they could just get rid of the smell of cats at the car park!! However, every time I smell cat urine it does remind me of Patong.
  3. I agree with this idea. Leave Thailand and apply for a visa locally, return and start new. If you have 800K in the bank you dont need to show monthly transfers. Unbon Joe should be around shortly for the best advise!
  4. Around our house in Issan the local fresh market has the full pig being cut up. My wife knows several of the sellers at the market and their vegetables are all from their local farms. My wife buys beef from the seller down the road. He typically has half a cow hanging and he just cuts off a piece. (comes with a bag of blood too). My wife when younger used to sell fish at that market that her dad caught early morning. Of course you decide to choose an apple which is very limited in Thailand. Due to forum rules I cant link to an article so do a google search for "Thailand forges new path for food exports to China" You can check this out too https://www.statista.com/topics/5730/agriculture-in-thailand/#dossierKeyfigures However, I'm not saying Thailand wouldn't have issues, Thailand might need to reduce or stop exports. Therefore reducing that selection of foods available, but there will be food available.
  5. how do you go from saying Thailand will have a food crises to china invading Taiwan?
  6. Typical Thai reporting. So where is the rest of the story?? Are there more guys and only 6 got arrested? If working do they all work for the same employer? or they all live together? Who were they planning on attacking?...another gang? or are they just always prepared? Are they here legally, working, visiting etc?
  7. Thai immigration keeps adding new visas, haven't seen any eliminated. Yes, qualifications and rules have changed for some visas over the past few decades but none have been removed. I really dont get your conclusion that a new visa for a different category means that a non-o for retirement is going to be eliminated, where are your getting this idea from? Also, going to Bali to get a tourist visa every 90 days means you're not really a tourist and residing in Thailand on the wrong visa (which many people do). Thai immigration was aware of expats doing this and changed the rules, they didn't get rid of the multi-entry tourist visa they made rule changes that you need to apply in your home country. Same with the visa exempt, they didn't get rid of the visa exempt they just made changes to the rules.
  8. Not possible, I was 24 at the time and my mom worked. When my mom retired she did collect on his SS as it was higher than hers.
  9. My dad died at 56 so never received a dime of what he paid into.
  10. the difference is in taxation. I'm sure the greedy little government is already thinking about some kind of tax.
  11. dont worry they will raise the medicare part B premium to take most of the 8% back!
  12. growing rice is different. The rice needs to be milled and then separated into different grades and packaged. This is very difficult for small famers to do. Growing ganja there is no commercial processing that needs to be done and can be harvested and sold locally. So farmers will have a better opportunity to grow and sell. However, this is Thailand and I'm sure the government will make adjustments to make sure they get their cut someone. I like the direction Thailand is going just hope things keep progressing this way.
  13. do you guys read the articles? The teacher is female (so dont think she was a pervert) Also the girl spent 6 days in the hospital afterwards as she had pre-existing medical conditions.
  14. why are they releasing people from jail that were arrested for mrijuana use/possession?
  15. When I first came to Thailand (early 90's) THB to USD was 25, so I'm still happy it's not that low anymore. 97/98 was the best years with a high of 52 THB to the USD, unfortunately I doubt we will ever see those rates again.
  16. yes your are 100% correct, no need for foreign volunteers as the RTP speak perfect English, German, Dutch etc. Oh and the RTP also completely understand other cultures too and would never side with a Thai....
  17. really??? So what is your answer, just give up? not try? This is Thailand anything can happen it all depends on the people your dealing with. I didn't say she could definitely fix this, I said get everything together and go speak to the bank and try and work things out. If things are worked out you pay the bank directly.
  18. Russia does supply Thailand with oil but it's only about 5-6% of it's oil imports. The major supplier to Thailand is Saudi Arabia
  19. She has a contract with the owner. you go to the bank with the contract, police report etc and it can be worked out. I have a Thai friend that did this last year. Contract was written between the owner and my friend and he worked it out with the bank. The bank doesn't care who makes the payment on the loan.
