  1. Let me make a correction. Thaksin didn't run away he was in New York for a UN meeting when the coup took place. When the coup happened there was no jail sentence waiting for him. Also, I wouldn't say "so-called war on drugs", it was a war on drugs, a reckless war with allot of innocent people being killed in a very short time period.
  2. getting an 18-20 yr old in Thailand is easy... Trying to handle them, well that's another story.
  3. seriously these are your issues. Please come up with better stories in the future!
  4. how old are you..12?
  5. Stay at a hotel, get the hotel to do a TM30 then go to immigration with that TM30.
  6. 'm sure tonight you'll be dreaming you're posting on Aseannow with no responses.
  7. Do you really hate Thailand?? or are you one of those guys that complain all the time about everything? Maybe you should look to move to alaska, nice and cool there and I dont think there are any Thai's there to upset you.
  8. Nice,!! you finally got a picture of Bob and Mrs. Smith!!
  9. you need to wake up and stop believing everything your girlfriend/wife tells you. Sorry to tell you this, but other Thai women do look down on girls working in bars. an example, one of my friends is always with a different bar girl. He came to a party we had when opening a new office. All the office girls talked about the bar girl he brought to the party for the next week. Thai women gossip so much!!
  10. Maybe you were not in Thailand at the time, but I recall that he started the 30baht medical program (this has benefited millions over the decades) and actually had the economy in good shape with promoting small and medium size business. He also expanded infrastructure programs (getting the airport complete, new bridges, roads etc. ) People at the time were in good spirits. He is still very well liked in the North and Isaan. As I have said many times I'm no fan of the guy. He is also the one that started the crack down on visa runs, overstays etc. Of course he had the war on drugs which killed over 2500 people in 3 months and he's corrupt just like every other politician. Is he good for Thailand? I dont know, I haven't seen any real progress in Thailand for more than a decade. Things either stay the same, go sideways, or move backward; I see no forward movement.
  11. The parents are from India trying to speak English to a Thai person trying to understand English during a very traumatic time. Also, Thais aren’t good with news stories in the first place.
  12. it's due an ineffective government that hasn't done anything to improve the country in the last 3 decades. Manila is the same now as it was in the 90's, dirty, corrupt and unsafe in most places.
  13. You can't really make a factual statement like that about Thailand, as things are never handled the same. I was involved in an accident and the insurance guys showed up and worked things out. Never once was I asked for my license by the insurance guy or the police. I had a valid license from the USA, but not Thailand at the time. I was visiting Thailand and borrowed a car from a girl I knew. The accident was my fault as I was going to fast in rainy conditions and skid on the steel grate on a bridge when I hit the brakes. I didn't get a ticket, the police didn't really care they just wanted to get us moved off the bridge. Once moved off the bridge the police left, they didn't even ask my name. I can say they were very polite. The guy I hit was really nice and offered me a ride home as the car I had was undriveable. So, in my case neither the insurance guy nor the cop asked for my license. As soon as the accident happened I called the girl I borrowed the car from and she called the insurance company who sent a guy out to handled everything. However on the other hand, I had a friend get into an accident which wasn't his fault. He had a Thai license but still had issues, had to pay a fee to the police and to the guy that hit him. His insurance did cover the damage to the cars. So I was unlawful and had no issues, he was lawful and had issues. I dont condone doing anything illegal in Thailand because you just never know how the dice will roll.
  14. It hasn't started yet. You were using DHL and UPS and they have been charging import/storage/clearing fee for decades.
  15. He's lucky they even showed up. From experience and reports from Thai friends, if it's a small matter and there is no option to make any money 99% of the time they dont show up. We had an issue with a drunk neighbor banging on our door all night so my wife called 3 different police offices and nobody showed up.
  16. The Los Angels embassy always has wrong information. The 15 day rule stopped back in 2004/5, so there is no longer any such rule and especially doesn't apply for arrivals via air.
  17. I hate to say this, but get used to it. The Thai Media only prints what is told, they ask no questions and investigate nothing. Every once in awhile you will get a follow up to a story, but that typically only happens when it's related to other news. I've been hoping for decades for things to change. The BBK post did have some decent reporters in the late 90's / early 2000's but they were all expats and spoke to loudly and eventually needed to depart Thailand. (not by choice)
  18. It's a little sad you're telling a 30 yr old what he can do. You do realize a Thai girl in her 30's is consider an old maid and doesn't have many choices. I would stay out of it, it's her son and her money! I used to weigh in on family issues, but I learned my lesson years ago and now stay out of it. My wife would get upset and talk badly about her sister, I would agree and express my thoughts, but later it would come back to bite me for talking bad about her sister. So know I let family deal with family. Don't get me wrong I'll support my wife on her decisions but when it comes to her family I just agree with her and hold my thoughts.
  19. It seems very common, my wife's uncle paid over a million baht for the position of principle at school.
  20. USA Propaganda? if so, the Thai media is being told what to say by the USA or The USA has Russians in Thailand doing these things to make Russians look bad...so which one do you think it is?
