Thanks @DrJack54 was thinking the same thing passport expires Sept next year and retirement needs renewed around end of March so was thinking of doing it just after the new year to be on the safe side not planning on any exits between when I make the new passport application and the end of the current retirement so I think early in the new year probably makes sense, thanks for your help as always @DrJack54 you have answered a few of my questions previously.

This is an interesting fair point @DrJack54 mine actually expires next year what would you recommend the period before expiry reapplying for a UK passport to be on the very safe side?

The US seem to think they have big guns and the the strongest country in the world however I think in the span of history they have a very short memory. Without the English, there likely wouldn’t be a United States, at least not the one we know today. From the original 13 colonies to the foundations of law, language, and governance, much of America’s early structure came from English roots. Even the Declaration of Independence was written in reaction to English rule, so in a way, England indirectly gave the U.S. both its start and opportunity for independence (You're welcome) we don't have an English independence day from the US just yet
