  1. Thanks for that. Fortunately, I am not a resident of Thailand for any purpose at the moment. Just looking for a refuge from winter, and eventually from the world.
  2. Hi fellow refugee from Canuckistan! For me, the money will be sent from Royal Bank of Canada to Bangkok Bank, at least that is the plan. Send in CAD and let Bangkok Bank do the currency conversion. RBC says an International Money Transfer is free, takes 2-3 days to appear in the receiving bank, and can be up to $50,000 per day.
  3. Title says it all. I am planning to buy a condo, and send the cash from my bank in Canada. About 2.2 million THB altogether. Now my bank offers free overseas transfers up to $50,000 CAD per day, so I would make two transfers. It takes about 2-3 days for the money to hit my bank account in Thailand (Bangkok Bank). My question is whether this is the best way to transfer the money. How do I get screwed using this method- bank fees for receiving the transfer? Poor exchange rate converting CAD to THB? What will the catch be? I hear all over that using Wise is the way to go, but perhaps that is only for making monthly transfers of relatively low amounts. My case is just once and a relatively large amount. So, advice and wisdom from those smarter than me would be appreciated!
  4. I think you are wrong, and making one of the fundamental mistakes that secular people make when dealing with religious zealots. They truly DO believe in what they are doing. It isn't an excuse for anything, or a means to an end. They believe. And to try to apply western political/economic motives to their actions is a cardinal error. Your solution is correct though. Just kill them. They can't be reasoned with, or negotiated with, or re-educated to believe 'correct' values. Send them to meet the afterlife.
  5. Sorry but there is no "winning the election with actual voters". The Electoral College is the goal. She had enough political experience to know that and yet still lost. Subsequently spent years whining about it, calling the election "illegitimate". And all the grousing of the butthurt left will do nothing to change that simple fact. Countries with elected parliaments are much the same- the raw vote total is irrelevant.
  6. Winning the popular vote in the US has as much relevance as does getting the most hits in a baseball game. Zero. You could say the same thing in Canada- the Conservative Party got more votes than the Liberals, but the Liberals got more seats in Parliament and were able to form a minority government. It shows how uniquely terrible the Hillbeast was as a candidate that she lost to Trump. Also how uniquely terrible a campaign she ran, in spite of being constantly touted as "the most qualified candidate EVER for the Presidency". But yeah, when the Democrates start pulling deep from their past in order to drag a candidate across the line, you know they are in trouble. It shows how thin their bench is today, and how unliked most of their current 'leaders' are.
  7. "Broke Don" really doesn't roll off the tongue very smoothly. Very poor choice by the desperate beta boys of Team Biden Personally, I think "Mushroom Don" has a better ring to it, plus a dose of humour.
  8. True. They all look like a bulldog listing pi55 off a thorn bush.
  9. Hey, what's wrong with Japanese folks? Much better neighbors than most other nationalities.
  10. Ah yes, "b-b-b-but Trump..." enters the fray. Do you really think saying that Biden and Trump are equally senile is a good defense?
  11. You may be right about that. Strange thing is, the complex has two buildings with identical floor plans. But... building B has sliding doors between the two rooms and Building A does not. And the unit i lIke of course is in A.
  12. It's an interior door, so a wooden sliding door that disappears into the wall would be ideal. AFAIK it is not a load bearing wall.
  13. Hi all. Considering buying a condo that has a connected living room and bedroom . Basically, there is a five or six foot opening between the living and bedroom. I want to put in a sliding door between to make the bedroom more private. Any ballpark figurescas to what it will cost?
  14. Making it to November is not the issue. Making it to Noveber of 2028 IS the issue. And God forbid he can't, because then you have President Cackles. Anyway, today it was obvious that his meds had worn off. Joe was borderline incoherent at an event in Pennsylvania.
  15. No? The polls say otherwise. Of course a lot could change between now and November. But why isn't Biden running away with it if his opponent is so incompetent?
  16. And yet... he is STILL losing to said charlatan. Any idea why Joe isn't up by double digits?
  17. Interesting...then what happens ? Any idea if or when it gets cleared up? It was sad as we saw a very nice older condo for a good price that was quite appealing, then we went for a walk. Just couldn't see walking on such a sad beach every day. Thanks for your response!
  18. Just went there yesterday to look at a few possibilities for buying a condo. Was last in the area about 6 years ago, at that time it was beautiful and a very easy to walk on beach. Now? Appalling. Trash covered, with debris that seems to have been there for a long time - fishing gear, garden tools, even a toilet brush. Plus the usual household garbage. And the area was dying- so few people about and many businesses permanently closed. Any insight into what happened?
  19. I dunno man. The first three Trump years were pretty damn good. COVID was a mess for the world. We can argue the responsibility and vaccine and lockdowns until the cows come home.
  20. The fact that they included recent presidents, including the one STILL IN OFFICE, says something about their credibility. And also the real motivation behind the whole exercise. Any serious historian would laugh.
  21. They ranked Biden above Reagan. They ranked Obama above Eisenhower and Clinton. Yeah, I'll trust this group. I guess they hated the 2% inflation, low gas prices, peace treaties, and elimination of ISIS.
  22. Oh yeah! Here we are, "b-b-b-but TRUMP!" for the win. Trump for his myriad faults was at least elected. Harris was so resoundingly rejected by her own party in the Democratic primary in 2020 that she dropped out almost before it started. And she has the unique ability to be even less popular than Joe Biden. So there is that, I suppose.
  23. The situation is what it has become. All the recriminations and 'should have' or 'could have' won't change it. Something I learned when raising my own son- kids would rather be praised than punished. BUT they would also rather be punished than ignored. And this goes double for boys. So a bit part of the problem may be solved if/when your family is back together again. Teenage boys need supervision and also a male role model in their lives. Not sure how old the boy was when you turned up, but it is hopefully not too late for the OP to become that role model. As for the theft, he can pay the money back over time once he starts working. Give him a chance to succeed at something and the urge to waste time/money/attention at gambling may go away. ETA: if he has been using legit or semi-legit gambling websites, is it possible to recover some of the money due to his being a minor? Similar if he sold/pawned the gold- I am not sure if there are laws in Thailand to prevent minors from such actions.
  24. Taking CNN over RT is like taking a sneaker shot to the nuts over a boot to the nuts. Both are pretty much equally unwelcome. Not sure why you mentioned RT as I have never used them as a source. The problem isn't the messaging. The problem is the VP. She has coasted along for her entire political career, spiraling upward based on her melanin and her ovaries. You can get away with it in California, but it is a lot harder to do so on the national stage.
