Bret Baier: Trump, not Harris, the ‘holdup’ on Fox News debate.
Hanaguma replied to Inderpland's topic in Political Soapbox
Neil would be good, but I am not sure if he is nimble on his feet enough to moderate a debate. Maybe Peter Doocie, the White House correspondent? For an outsider.....Glenn Greenwald as a wild card choice. Or Dave Smith the comedian/podcaster. As for Megyn, according to her she has voted D 4 times and R 4 times in presidential elections, and is a registered Independent. Also has a less than uber-friendly history with the Bad Orange Man. But very sharp, she did a great interview a couple weeks ago on the All In Podcast weekend event from Los Angeles. -
Bret Baier: Trump, not Harris, the ‘holdup’ on Fox News debate.
Hanaguma replied to Inderpland's topic in Political Soapbox
If it is accurate, it is definitely disappointing. Baier would be a good moderator IMHO, perhaps bring in someone independent like Megyn Kelly to sit in the second seat. I am surprised that the Harris camp isn't crowing this from the rooftops if the story is true. -
Respectfully disagree. After Trump won in 2016, more than 70 Democratic congress members refused to attend the inauguration. Luminaries like the late John Lewis referred to Trump's win as "illegitimate". And even Hillary herself- she conceded gracefully enough, but by 2019 was calling Trump an "illegitimate President". And even Jimmy Carter. As forthe rest, I think the US presidential system is quite rare. Many countries have both presidents AND prime ministers. Anyway, both sides know the rules and, if they are smart, will conduct their campaigns accordingly.

Happened in Canada last election. The Conservative party won the popular vote, but the Liberal party won more seats in Parliament.Much the same reason as in the US- Liberal support is more evenly spread around the country whereas there are only pockets of staunch Conservatives. So, we got Justin Trudeau, Liberal Party, as Prime Minister. Fair enough, I am not a fan but he IS the PM.

Lovely idea but it really goes against the grain of being a federal republic as the Founding Fathers envisioned. Plus there aren't that many countries that actually have a simple vote like that for leader. Most have a form of parliamentary or federal system. Do you know of any that are a simple majority rules?

Trump Surges in Latest Top Poll 538 Predictions
Hanaguma replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Just saw the Ruhle interview. I was actually surprised pleasantly. Ruhle asked good questions, and at times pressed back (very gently) on certain issues. But, as usual, there were no substantive answers or clear policy positions. Lots of the usual bromides about rich people paying "their fair share" and the like. The salad spinner in action. -
Trump Surges in Latest Top Poll 538 Predictions

Because he already did one on CNN. And on ABC. So the real question is, why won't Kamala do a debate on Fox News, or moderated by the Wall Street Journal? The Democrats had 2 debates on friendly ground. Time for them to return the favour. -
Trump Surges in Latest Top Poll 538 Predictions

Perhaps because they see his four years as NOT failed? Low inflation, low interest rates, low unemployment, no new wars to worry about, peace treaties in the Middle East. And they compare to the Biden/Harris years and see none of the above. Now, you can argue about the causes and who gets the credit, but those are the basic facts that sway many voters. Not 'beyond the realm of reason' by any means. -
Trump Surges in Latest Top Poll 538 Predictions

While the results are good for Trump (and therefore for the USA), I would still take them with a grain of salt. It is in the interest of all media, both online and legacy, to promote the idea that the election is super close and will go down to the wire. Happens every 4 years. I am sure the media was saying the same in 1984, when Reagan destroyed Mondale. Reagan came within 5000 votes of winning EVERY state. It's all about the Benjamins. Money is made in close contests. -
Vance Labels Harris as a Major Threat to Religious Liberty
Hanaguma replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Yes. Women already have a number of choices: abstinence, birth control, motherhood, adoption. They have full control of the decision to be sexually active. That is why virtually every abortion restriction comes with the caveats that rape and incest are exceptions. Outside of that, personal responsibility is the goal. -
Vance Labels Harris as a Major Threat to Religious Liberty

You are speaking in euphemisms. If you want to say the right to remove viable babies from their wombs and kill them, just say so. -
The Haitians in Sprinfield are an interesting case study. The Biden-Harris easy immigration policy encouraged them to come. On arrival, they began to rapidly use up the social services and so on. Talk to the residents of the city and see what they think of their new neighbours. As for the "bipartisan legislation", it was a steaming pile of dogsh!t. Any "policy" that would let more than a million people cross the border illegally is a non starter. The problem started with Biden unilaterally cancelling all of Trump's border security measures as soon as he took office. That is what caused the numbers to spike. Now, lately, Biden has suddenly found that he has the power to do the same without Congressional approval. But for more than 3 years there was really n enforcement.
-
Nope. His target is the Biden-Harris administration's terrible immigration policy in general. Part is the illegals flooding the border. Part is the far too easy process to enter under various schemes. Notably, the Harris campaign is completely silent on their policy and positions on immigration. Their surrogates (who answer for the acutal candidates) say nothing other than the usual bromides and platitudes.

Apples and oranges. Yeah, the city was shrinking, as many small cities in the midwest are doing. But the answer is not to import 15,000 people who do not speak English, have little cultural knowledge of the area, and drain the public coffers. Not to mention living 20 to a house and displacing the original residents.

Maybe you missed this before, but I wrote; Not sure if it is a five star anymore, but the iconic Roosevelt Hotel in NYC. Or The Row New York City. I believe it was a 4 star, but will that do in a pinch? More than 1300 rooms, the city is paying $5 million a month to rent the whole place as an immigrant shelter. The Crowne Plaza at JFK airport is getting $2 million a month as a shelter as well. Average payout is about $350 per room per night overall in the city. Obviously "five star hotel" is a euphemism. The broader and more important point is that illegal immigrants are being housed in, shall we say 'luxury', accommodation at taxpayer expense. While American homeless and poor are left on the street and in shelters.

As usual. Ignore the inconvenient part (years of student deferrals) and focus only on the picayune details of each man's medical deferment. Ignoring the fact that they both had every opportunity to go and fight but chose not to. Same as many well off young men in similar circumstances.
-
...and both used the same dodge to avoid the draft for years. Nothing will change THAT either.
-
Yeah, there is. Both could have volunteered to serve. Both declined.
