  1. I paid 75,000 THB for EDOF lenses in both eyes at a private eye clinic in Udon Thani 3 years ago. Excellent results. Surely the price went up but I think is still much cheaper than any Bangkok or Pattaya private hospital.
  2. If your insurance doesn't pay for the laparascopic procedure, find a government hospital that does it. It will save you a ton of money, you'll spend less time in hospital and have a faster recovery. I'm 73 and had it done in June last year at Thabo Crownprince hospital near Nong Khai. Cost 51,000 THB which my insurance (WRLife) paid for, 2 nights in hospital and excellent results. Highly recommended.
  3. I had the laparoscopic surgery done in February at a government hospital near Nong Khai. Half the price of what a private hospital quoted for open surgery, Excellent results, no pain, no scars. The drawback was that I had to stay 2 nights in the hospital. Look around your area to find a good hospital. Mine was labelled "a regional center of excellence for laparoscopic procedures' and my insurance reimbursed the cost.
  4. Genobkk, I'm confused. Dr, Jack mentioned ThaiVisaCentre and in your replies you talk about Thaivisacenter, This is not just different British and American spelling, they're different companies. For instance, the website of thaivisacenter.com is in Thai language whereas the website of tvc.co.th is in English. I've used the latter hassle-free for years and highly recommend their service. In my case, everything is done online or per EMS and there's no need for me to show up at the Immigration office.
  5. Tod, thanks a lot for this explanation.
  6. Thanks and you're right, I 'm looking for first-hand experience before contacting Immigration for confirmation and details.
  7. Does anyone know if Loei Immigration accepts the combination method for extension of stay with a Non-O visa and has used it recently? TIA
  8. Don't forget that the Schengen visa is valid for one entry only. If you manage to get a UK visa, you can't return to Switzerland on the same visa.
  9. No, it's not cheap, but the price varies widely depending on the type of lens used for replacement. 2 years ago, I had both eyes done with EDOF lenses at a very modern private eye clinic in Udon Thani, and the cost was just 75,000 THB. Very good results too.
  10. I'm insured with WR Life for more than 2 years now and needed herniorrhaphy surgery. Muang Loei Ram hospital asked for 80,000 - 100,000 Baht for Open Herniorrhaphy surgery and didn't offer Laparoscopic technique. I decided to have the laparoscopic herniorrhaphy done at the Crown Prince Hospital ThaBo ( a government hospital) six weeks ago for 50,000 Baht. It was a bit difficult to get consent prior surgery from WR Life and I had to pay myself first but WR Life reimbursed me 4 days after my claim.

  12. These are collective nouns, not classifiers. There's a difference.
  13. I've changed the name of the post-paid True SIM from the missus to my name to match my SCB banking app about a month ago. Passport and bank account with debit card needed. It took just 10 minutes at a True shop.
  14. 3 different banks in my little town in Loei province refused to open another bank account for me (I have an SCB account) saying they can't do it on a non-O visa despite having 8 years of yearly extensions, only non-OA allowed. TiT
  15. Hi there, I've been using a torrent site for downloading (not streaming) movies, TV shows, music and more for many years without any problems. It's got all the new stuff like Reacher, the White Lotus, 1923 to name just a few. Of course, I use a VPN even in Thailand. The site is by invitation only so if you are interested in joining, send me a private message and I'll invite you. It's free and all you have to do is seed back what you downloaded. For a small donation, you can also get IPTV with thousands of channels from all over the world.
  16. Bundesfinanzministerium - Abkommen zwischen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland und dem Königreich Thailand zur Vermeidung der Doppelbesteuerung bei den Steuern vom Einkommen und vom Vermögen
  17. The Ministry (of Education) had in 2015 tested all civil servant English teachers in a CEFR-referenced online placement test, where 94% had failed to reach the targeted proficiency level of B2. 18. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2002315/intensive-push-to-lift-english-proficiency It's a program in which students get more English lessons per week than regular students. The goal is that students reach B2 level of CEFR which is a joke because most English teachers (Thai) at secondary schools don't reach that level themselves.
  19. I just completed this quiz. My Score 40/100 My Time 120 seconds
  20. The internet has lots of worksheets and exams but course books are difficult to find (copyrights). I know one site that has a selection of English course books which you can download but the wide range of age and probably levels will make it difficult to find some appropriate ones. Send me a message if you are interested.
  21. Assuming she works at a school, can't she get books or recommendations from English teachers at the school?

Are you going by car or motorbike? CK Crew (a group of 6 friends in Chiang Khan riding motorbikes) did a trip around Nan last year. If you want to follow a scenic route I'd recommend going to Nong Khai first, then follow the river to Chiang Khan and Na Haeo, then backroads up to Nan. From there you could follow the route KhunLA recommended. Very nice indeed.
  24. I'm German with residency in Thailand and rented cars in The Netherlands, Germany, the UK and in Florida with my 5-year-licence (plastic card) without any problems at all.
  25. Saloon Bar is the place to go. Best on weekends. In Chiang Khan stay in one of the many guesthouses with river view on Chai Kong Road. A drive along the river road to Nong Khai is very interesting. Stop at HiSo Bannork restaurant (ไฮโซ-บ้านนอก) in Ban Hat Kamphi. Google maps: 42VC+HRQ, Hat Kamphi Unfortunately open only on weekends during lunch time but their slow-cooked ribs are spectacular.
