I've given up travelling in mini-vans or coaches & given up eating anything that comes out of the rivers or ocean.
Extended my life quite a bit already!

Once the pollution has killed everything in the rivers & gone out to sea & killed everything out there too then maybe someone will do something, but until then don't hold your breath... unless you live in certain areas on the coastline then that actually might be advisable!

I don't think it's getting more prevalent, I think it's always been the Thai culture to behave in this manner.
The fact is now with social media as it is & the ease of which to capture & spread the attacks is why we are seeing more.

I had a friend who tried to do the same thing many years ago, he was dumped by his girlfriend & took it all quite hard.

Put a 20 guage under his chin & pulled the trigger.

Removed his lower jaw, top set of teeth and his nose, he woke up in hospital a few days later with a different attitude to life, he ended up marrying his nurse..

hope this guy does the same!
