  1. Fist of all I am not a Squire but do still hold a Commission as a JP. Secondly it’s not Racism as it applies to all Races who choose to live here who are not Thai Thirdly there are few countries I know of that allow a person aged 50 years years and older to arrive without a visa and with 800,00 baht in the bank and stay indefinitely. Fourthly there is always the option to return to your Utopian homeland if dissatisfied, for me I enjoy more freedoms here than in Australia, so I am staying.
  2. Mail goes into the mail box with other deliveries they always call first if not home left with a relative close by. Works fine.
  3. I disagree with some of your comments, I have kept Jack Russell Terriers for more years than I can remember both in Australia and here. I currently have four and anyone known to them including children can enter our walled and gated house and land without a problem. There have a protective instinct and if anyone not known to them tries to enter when we are not here they will have a problem.
  4. I do my ninety day reporting at the local Immigration Office. Takes on average 4 mins from leaving the car to returning. Only the passport is required, the staff are very polite and offer me a seat and point out the next date. I can handle 16 minutes out of my life each year.
  5. I have the yellow book and pink ID card and the services you describe, plus the three free Covid shots, AZ plus the Phizer booster have been provided at no charge to those foreigners in my area who dont have the book or card.
  6. My understanding is that to obtain the Thai Pass in order to enter Thailand, non Thais have to have Insurance of Baht 1.5m for the duration of their stay.
  7. Only if nailed to the perch and sleeping !!
  8. Hasn’t been my experience over the last 6 months both ways standard airmail around two weeks To Australia very slow even EMS
  9. Thanks for the reply have never smoked only the evil alcohol !
  10. The same seems to happen in the UK, I have watched a few TV programs Border Force or whatever where people are refused entry usually because they think they are going to work. Recently a female Australian Chef was denied entry and sent back as she had her set of knives and recipes with her.
  11. Many thanks for all the replies much appreciated Sorry to the mods if a problem with the title must have been having a Seniors moment !
  12. I am considering having a dental tooth implant as the tooth is too worn for a crown. I don’t know anyone who has ever had this procedure and am interested in any feedback on problems etc. I have always been happy with the dental treatment received here and it has been as good as any treatment in Australia, except considerably cheaper.
  13. I suspect that at this time of the year there will be no donkeys on the beach, too cold.
  14. I have used EMS to send documents and other items for years and the system has never failed me. I recall several years ago posting an item on a Saturday morning and the recipient calling the following day, Sunday to day that it had been delivered.
  15. I didn’t have any problems obtaining the Covid vaccines as did most of my expat friends Two shots plus the booster free of charge We were given them before many Thais
  16. Thanks we found a place in the city recommended by local installer. Had everything we needed.p
  17. I seem to recall an announcement by the Government recently that paper copies of ID cards and other documents for Thais wouldn’t be needed in the future. My local I migration Office now only require the passport for ninety day reporting, no forms. The last two occasions we have renewed our daughter’s Thai passport all original documents were scanned. Progress at last.
  18. My understanding is that the Insurance doesn’t have to with a Thai Insurance company so where is the conspiratorial fleecing?
  19. I am curious then as to what a Thai person would do if visiting another Province and required immediate or urgent treatment ?
  20. Didn’t know people still used travel agents particularly the savvy young I’m 71 and last used one more than 15 years ago.
  21. Thanks for the advice most of what you suggest already in place
  22. I am seeking to replace a deep bore submersible pump. I have been told Franklin Schaefer is a good brand. Also any where in Chiang Mai to purchase if possible
  23. Obtaining travel insurance doesn’t seem to be such a problem as they tend to exempt from the coverage existing conditions and usually it’s only for a relatively short period of time. The problem appears to be obtaining hospital/ medical cover if you are over 65 years of age and living here long term. As this travel pass requires you to have coverage of $US 55,000.00 for the period that you are stamped in, which could be up to a year if on a retirement extension, it would appear that many long term expats are in fact prevented from leaving the country if they cannot obtain the insurance.
  24. I was born in the UK and emigrated to Australia at a relatively early age I recall my late father telling me don’t waste time and money coming to funerals as there is nothing you can do and we will not know you are there. I followed that advice and visited them when they were alive and have applied it to friends. Re myself I know that my wife will ignore my request as it’s a cultural issue linked to saving face etc. It doesn’t really matter as by then it it will be her money she is wasting
  25. I have also made it very clear that after my demise I don't want her spending money wining and dining the locals for three days. We have a local crematorium not far from the house where I am quite happy to be disposed of without an audience.
