    My apologies, your correct. Computers are freezing or very slow

    All of them?

    What are the full model numbers of each? Look at the labels on the underside or the back of the devices.

    For HP; https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c01509566

    Product Number/SKU Number is the most useful.

    For ACER, look at the label.

    You should be able to run hardware diagnostics on the HP machines by pressing the F2 key on startup;

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQYPYiBYxJE

    Works in the same way for their PCs.

    Once you have eliminated hardware from the possible issue, we can look at software.

    Yes.

    The question was for the OP.

    The point being that it is not something that he would expect to see in an everyday laptop in any case.

    You might find the odd one that has a Snapdragon X16 LTE Modem installed;

    https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon-modems-4g-lte-x16

    But they are "as rare as hen's teeth".

    So if the OP wants Gigabit wireless capability, he can look out for laptops with a similar chipset.

  3. I have never purchased a new computer for myself. The refurbished Netbook I purchased in 2008 is still fully functional. Refurbished laptop purchased in 2009, I retired last year. Am now using one purchased in 2010(by someone else and given to me).

    All devices were 'as new'. Some still with the original plastic covers on them.

    Being the first one to open the box costs you dearly and the item can still fail. I'm happy enough to buy a product that has been taken out of the box and tested, before it is sold on to me at a substantial discount.

    I would not necessarily do the same thing in Thailand. Simply not confident of their integrity and professionalism.

    In the U.K we have solid protections.

    That's a great deal if you were satisfied with the computer.

    I would of course prefer to save the money [although I'd be a tad worried wondering if there was anything (spyware etc.) hidden in the BIOS by the seller. Or if there's an intermittent problem that caused the person to sell it].

    What sort of warranty is there when purchasing a used computer?

    I've never done that.

    These are ex-Business devices. They run them for three years, usually under a three year on-site warranty and then they are disposed of by a separate company, certified to do the disposals. They are literally paid to take them away.

    The company will destroy or securely wipe the drives.

    Then they are graded and sold on as refurbished business machines. So you are getting a device that likely sold for over US$1000, for a small percentage of that.

    If you think some company is deliberately infecting BIOS...that is just 'nuts'.

    Intermittent problem? These machines are sold by their hundreds and thousands. it's not just one device.

    The best recycling companies stand by their work, with six to twelve month warranties as standard. Some will extend to two to three years for a small payment, as they know that these aren't the often poorly constructed consumer devices that you cannot easily get into in order to service, but business quality devices designed for easy maintenance.

    So buy the US$1000 laptop and then try to get into it, in order to change the RAM or SSD and tell me how you get on.

    Thanks for the links.

    I'm pretty sure the ones I've checked with are Samsung, HP, and Dell, which all told me if I purchase in the US the warranty only covers the US.

    But never checked the companies you've linked to (and never owned their computers) so will look at those.

    I may end up waiting and purchasing in Thailand which was my original plan.

    Any idea in general what percent more expensive a computer would be in Thailand vs the US? (The same model in both countries).

    I don't hail from the USA, so would know just as much as you do.

    Neither do I buy expensive new computers. I concentrate on value for money.

    For a travel laptop, I chose this;

    https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/refurbished-dell-latitude-e7240-ultrabook-180-at-blackmoreit-ebay-3032109

    https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/refurbished-dell-latitude-e7240-ultrabook-i5-4200u-4gb-128gb-ssd-touchscreen-laptop-150-at-blackmoreit-ebay-3127576

    US$185 to US$220 for a 12.5" Full HD Touchscreen laptop with SATA SSD and a slot for a SIM card.

    US$1000 on a laptop isn't a sensible way for me to spend my money.

  6. New SIM deals for SIM purchased in August;

    DTAC;

    Buy a new SIM and within seven days, apply;

    *104*430# for 31 GB @ 4 Mbps, 100 baht per month.

    *104*100# for 101 GB @ 4 Mbps, 200 baht per month.

    *104*131# for 131 GB @ 4 Mbps, 250 baht per month.

    After the first month, you can continue the package for up to 12 months by applying;

    *104*433# for 31 GB @ 4 Mbps, 100 baht per month.

    *104*111# for 101 GB @ 4 Mbps, 200 baht per month.

    *104*133# for 131 GB @ 4 Mbps, 250 baht per month.

    for months 2 until 12.

    AIS;

    Pick up a new AIS 4G SIM(The ONE SIM or Super Social are good choices) and within seven days of opening, add at least 200 baht and then apply the code *777*909#

    That will get you 110 GB per month, capped at 4 Mbps(0.5 MB/s) for 200 baht per month.

    Alternatively 32 GB, capped at 4 Mbps(0.5 MB/s) for 100 baht per month via *777*918#

    Truemove H;

    Pick up a new Truemove H 4G SIM and within a day of opening, add at least 200 baht and then apply the code *900*9605# for 100 GB per month, capped at 4 Mbps(0.5 MB/s) for 200 baht per month. Free calls are included.

    Alternatively 30 GB, capped at 4 Mbps(0.5 MB/s) for 100 baht per month via *900*9604#

    Obviously not for you, now that you have applied an unlimited pack.

    ah i see .. ok

    ok i just subscribed for 3 months ..mind you that is not easily found public knowledge ive never heard of it

    thanks guys

    Guys? There is just me. ????

    A useful main package to apply is the Plearn package. Useful for when there are gaps between applying a new package.

    For a one time payment of 30 baht you get;

    Quote
    • Free internet at 64kbps to prevent data leakage
    • All networks 0.69 baht / min
    • 30 baht / time
    • Press *103*55*9# dial

    You don't need it right now, as you have an unlimited data add-on package. But if there is a time wherein you are not ready to apply a new package, that will prevent you for being charged for using data without a package being applied.

  8. All of the networks changed their prices. In fact DTAC was the last of the major networks to do so.

    That is why SIMs activated before the 1st of March are still eligible for the unlimited data packages.

    For AIS and Truemove H, it is the 1st of Feb.

    If you want to look at what is available for new customers, go to the correct section; INTERNET, COMPUTERS, COMMUNICATION, TECHNOLOGY

  9. DTAC does.

    *104*594# then hitting the Dial key gets you unlimited 4 Mbps for 90 days. 1284 baht(428 baht per month)

    If you can receive 10 Mbps with DTAC at your location, they have also a 90 day package for that. *104*598# 1926 baht.

    90 days of 1 Mbps for 802.50. *104*591#

    For SIM activated prior the 1st of March.

    I am curious, if these packages are either VOLUME-BASED or SPEED-BASED, then how exactly having 3G, 4G, 5G phones will help with the connection speed if say, one to select unlimited volume but speed-based package cap at 4Mbps or 1Mbps while having the latest 4G device? 4Mbps is roughly the max capacity of 3G carrier, even worse if there are packages with only 1Mbps speed.. that's like 2G device all over again.

    On which 2G device did you ever achieve 1 Mbps?

    Quote

    2G Service

    2G is the slowest kind of phone service and there are two kinds of tech that your phone could be running:

    • GPRS: Icon shows G, maximum speeds of 0.1 Mbps, average speeds of less than 0.1 Mbps
    • Edge: Icon shows E, maximum speeds of 0.3 Mbps, average speeds of 0.1 Mbps

    3G Service

    If you’ve got 3G service then congratulations, you now have a smartphone! There are lots of different 3G technologies, which means there’s plenty of variation in 3G speeds:

    • 3G: Icon shows 3G, maximum speeds of 0.3 Mbps, average speeds of 0.1 Mbps
    • HSPA: Icon shows H, maximum speeds of 7.2 Mbps, average speeds of 1.5 Mbps
    • HSPA+: Icon shows H+, maximum speeds of 21 Mbps, average speeds of 4 Mbps
    • DC-HSPA+: Icons shows H+, maximum speeds of 42 Mbps, average speeds of 8 Mbps

    4G/4G+ Service

    If you’re running 4G then you’re getting pretty fast download speeds, but again, there are various different technologies that your phone can have that will impact your speeds:

    • LTE Category 4: Icon shows 4G, maximum speeds of 150 Mbps, average speeds of between 12 and 15 Mbps
    • LTE-Advanced Category 6: Icon shows 4G+, maximum speeds of 300 Mbps, average speeds of between 24 and 30 Mbps
    • LTE-Advanced Category 9: Icon shows 4G+, maximum speeds of 450 Mbps, average speeds around 60 Mbps

    Most of what you write is questionable. In addition, the bands are often on different frequencies. So not having access to all bands can put you at a disadvantage.

    All in all, a bit of a pointless discussion since you can simply purchase the package that suits your needs.

    6 Mbps, 8 Mbps, 10 Mbps and full speed are all available.

    No one is forcing anyone to purchase 384 kbps, 512 kbps, 1 Mbps nor 4 Mbps. people purchase them because it suits their pocket or their need.

    The local AIS store has a promotion. Friends got 25 GB with lower speed after that for a 200 Baht top up.

    I paid 100 THB and got 32 GB? Only this afternoon, but it's working so far.

    Are you one of those people who just post without perusing the thread beforehand?

    It's really not that long a thread. Take a look at post #6.

    I haven't found any computer available in the US which has an international warranty.

    I've checked with several of the major manufacturers and purchasing in the US, the warranty covers being in the US only.

    I'll assume there is no official service center for Samsungs anywhere in Thailand, as a poster in the thread stated they no longer sell laptops in Thailand.

    But unofficially several posters have mentioned computer repair shops service all types.

    I agree the laptop isn't a super bargain, but I can get 30 days return which allows me to try it out and make sure I'm happy with it - have never owned a computer smaller than 15.5" screen and never owned a Samsung.

    I do like it's weight - 2.8 pounds.

    EDIT - Thanks for the link to the Samsung Official Repair Shop thread.

    Bad service at their official shop 6 years ago - perhaps it's improved?

    You appear to be an optimist. ????

    https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/c/LAPTOPS

    https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht505335

    ASUS too; https://www.asus.com/support/images/upload/file/20181018100511584_international warranty country cover list.pdf

    I imagine DELL and ACER too.

    They may be add-on extensions.

    One can look into the options available and also look into warranty extension options. You can believe whatever you like about what you are told. But unless they have the parts in Thailand, they aren't going to be able to fix anything.

    In addition to that, the quality of work outside official service centres, often leaves a lot to be desired.

    Personally I would just purchase a second user business quality device, for less than half that price instead of worrying about warranties that won't be honoured anyway.

    I'm planning to purchase this computer and make sure I like it.

    If so and I bring it to Thailand -  if it was to need a repair in the future, do you think the computer repair shops in Thailand would be able to get parts for it if needed?

    The possible problem being that Samsung is no longer selling laptops in Thailand.

    If there is no official service centre for Samsung laptops in Chiang Mai/Thailand, make another choice.

    Look for something that has an International warranty and official service centres in Thailand.

    Even when they did;

    Find something else of a similar spec, if that is what you want.

    It's not as if you have found a super bargain anyway.

    I ended up going with their 4Mbs 20 GB/month 2500 baht for one year plan. I know of no code for this, I went into their office and had them do it for me. The cost was exactly 2500--VAT inclusive. My usage for the last 30 days has been a 3 or 4 GB so I should be good to go with this package.

    https://m.ais.co.th/ontop-package-myais

    You could do it yourself using the my ais app which the guy installed on my phone. You could also do it yourself on the website I'm guessing. I went in just to make sure if there were any mistakes that there would be witnesses, and because the office is conveniently located for me.

    Edit: By the by, I installed a speedtest app on my phone and speeds have been as advertised.

    If you are only using 3-4gb a month you will probably find the 1mbps 7.5gb a month for 1200 baht a year is good enough. I switched from 4mbps to 1mbps and it's fine

    A bit late now ????

    Grillicious Lebanese Restaurant by Beirut

    https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293919-d15421228-Reviews-Grillicious_Lebanese_Restaurant_by_Beirut-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province.html

    I finally got around to trying this place. I have been to the Bangkok Beirut many years ago and yes it was great back then. What's took me so long was the prices. There are other Middle Eastern places I like that cost less and don't have add on costs.

    Well after trying it just one time I think it's probably the best Lebanese food in town with some caveats. So maybe worth the money. Also it's not plus plus, but only a 10 percent service fee is added but happily not tax.

    I tried their build your own mezze option where you choose four choices from a list and they include pita bread and dips. 450 baht.

    If you don't know about Lebanese mezze --

    https://www.buzzfeed.com/kiwihomeco/top-10-lebanese-mezze-dishes-q7qz

    The worst part first. The pita bread is to put it politely is NOT VERY GOOD.

    It boggles the mind why they don't bother to do good pita bread, but they don't. I supposed bringing your own would appear eccentric.

    So I chose the stuffed grape leaves (with rice), the eggplant dip, chicken schwarma, and Kibbe (fried meat thingies).

    The stuffed grape leaves tasted like they were out of a can. It was optimistic to hope they would make their own. Even if they do, which I doubt, they certainly didn't taste like they were made in house. The eggplant dip was excellent. The schwarma excellent. The kibbe excellent but it seemed to be missing the Lebanese grain bulgur that's normally in it so I think Lebanese people might be disappointed in that. If there was bulgur in their kibbe, sorry I just didn't detect it, and yes I have had more typical kibbe where you can't miss the bulgur.

    Included was a raw vegetable and pickle plate and three excellent additional dips. Whipped garlic with is excellent with the schwarma meat. tahini sesame, and a spicy green vegetable in oil thing.

    Obviously they have an extensive menu and not only small mezze dishes.

    Don't you belong to a camera of sorts?

    Overall, it sounds as if I create a lot better at home. Especially as I only eat wholemeal pitta;

    Lebanese wholewheat khobez;

    khobez.jpg

    Greek style wholewheat pitta with seeds;

    closeup-of-some-whole-grain-pita-bread-w

    If their bread is no good, then what's the point?

    Good bread is central.

    Bothering people on two forums(here and on eBay) over such a minor issue is somewhat selfish.

    None of it matters if you clean install the OS.

    Just buy the key in so you can focus on more important things in life.

  19. Depends on what format the CD audio is stored. If a genuine audio CD bought in a shop (or an exact copy), you'll need a CD Audio 'ripper'.

    Windows Media Player can do that for you. https://www.microcenter.com/tech_center/article/3176/how-to-rip-a-cd-with-windows-media-player-12

    Choose MP3 at 320 kbps

    If the music is already stored as MP3 on the CD, then you just have to copy the files over to the USB Flash drive.
