BYD Seal tips, tricks and help
Andrew Dwyer replied to macahoom's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
The reason I think Navigation is running in the background is that the data used in “ data monitor “ increases without any any Navigation or voice command usage.( irrespective of when you got the SIM card 😬 ). Typically i use Spotify only when local, starting tomorrow i will monitor how much data is being used by Navigation without any input from me. -
Death of Gene Hackman and Wife now Investigated as 'Suspicious'
Andrew Dwyer replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
Seems like both GH and his wife had similar time of death. From the BBC: A sheriff's detective who responded to the scene said that they believed the couple had been dead for some time because of Ms Arakawa's "decomposition" and "mummification" in the hands and feet. "The male decedent also showed obvious signs of death, similar and consistent with the female decedent," said the search warrant. -

Backlash as Foreigners Give Monks a High-Speed Lift in Pattaya
Andrew Dwyer replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
Got to agree with Malcolm on this, foreigners are quick to attack the Thai at any opportunity. Way i understand this story is the two foreigners did a good deed by giving the two monks a lift on their mc’s. The monks were appreciative of the gesture, photos were taken and blessings, from the monks, received. The “ Backlash “ was some netizens fearing the two monks riding on the back of two Farang mc’s might somehow bring the religion into disrepute, imho, seeing problems when no problems exist. -
BBC Sounds to be geoblocked outside the UK
Andrew Dwyer replied to OJAS's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Boo !! Recently discovered BBC Sounds and have a lot of stuff bookmarked, particularly like the Desert Island Discs. Have a Radioplayer app which i use for general radio channels ( select any BBC station and it redirects you to BBC Sounds ) Capital, Absolute, Virgin, Nation and Planet etc and all their different genre stations so a boatload of stuff available …. only the Beeb not playing the game. BBC are like the Apple of media ! -
BYD Seal tips, tricks and help
Andrew Dwyer replied to macahoom's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Wonder if it comes from the Navigation app, even if you don’t use it i believe it runs in the background, maybe can mute it there ? I have seen messages about speed cameras pop up when not using any navigation, but those i don’t mind. Some small changes appear after the latest update and SIM card change. My wireless charging message doesn’t appear on the screen anymore and I still have the anomaly where when I turn on the A/C from the app the car doesn’t start and there is no indication anything has changed other than A/C sound. If I want to start the car as well I press the seat ventilation button and the lights flash, mirrors pop out, screens come to life and car starts ! Bizarre indeed, have seen a few fb reports about this but no Seal owner on here reporting back. Although I use remote A/C start frequency it still surprises me before i realise i have to press “ Start “ before driving off. -

Didn’t do anything, just checked if it was working again, by pulling down on the image, and it updated. Haven’t seen the wheel spacer reference but the replacement of shocks, or just the springs, has been very common. I believe it started with Atto 3 ( ? ) as many don’t like the soft suspension. Thai’s in general do like these modifications which “ apparently “ make improvements like the anti roll bars in a Honda Brio ! or rear spoilers which, imo, don’t give any advantage and are purely visual. -

All good now That was a first for me and i use the remote start option often. Have had it fail to start before but retrying immediately always succeeded but never for an extended period. -

Quite unusual I would say, I had the Singapore sim card for a year in my Seal and it didn’t cause any issues and never heard of any either. A return to the dealer seems like your only option I would say. -
Here in Ayutthaya it is also abysmal, for me anyway, International mail rarely arrives, sometimes I can go to the sorting office and they just give me it as if they just couldn’t be bothered delivering it, other times it just disappears. Put this down to an address written in English but in Thai it is not much better ! My True Visions bills are usually delivered in 4 or 5 at a time with a rubber band around them and there is always a couple missing. I live in a moobahn not out in the sticks with an obscure address and i have come to the conclusion that this is as good as it gets.

Electric Vehicles in Thailand

What are break pads ? -
We had the same here in Ayutthaya on early Tues morning after several months without rain. The cool weather stayed for a couple of days but now sticky and threatening rain most days, looking like rainy season coming early this year ?

I started it but gave it up. I like Vince Vaughn but his character in this was over the top, talking at 100 miles an hour and everything he said laced with sarcasm, it wore me down ! Might give it another go though, now I know what to expect it might grow on me. -

I have watched earlier seasons and thought it was hilarious, but I am a Danny McBride fan. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8634332/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk -
Yeah, we did Golden Triangle back in 2016 and, as i said, this was a return trip mainly for the teenagers to experience. Not too much at GT, more of a “ been there done that “ moment imho. Chiang Rai with the compulsory White Temple and Wat Huay Pla Kang is worth a visit. Visited Singha Park for the first time which was okay, kids liked it driving round in the golf cart ( especially as I gave them both a turn at driving !) but just some selfie opportunities and would have been more worth it if on a weekend when the balloons were there. Visited a sheep farm called Australia which is new and quite small ( just a small hill really ) but cheap enough and some really cute Alpacas ( + a kid needing a haircut ! ). Kinda like the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai night markets for a couple of nights but up north is done now and will be seeking alternative destinations for next time.

Arrived here to stay permanently in 2016 and the first two or three years were spent doing road trips up north or down south. Wife is a bit of a Buddha nut so get to see more temples than i would if single but still impressed by the workmanship and beauty of some of them. This January revisited the Chiang Mai/Rai attractions taking the two teenage lead weights with us this time, along with the aforementioned places also did Golden Triangle, Lampang and this wonderful view point Chae Hom, situated in between Chiang Mai, Phayao and Lampang. Prefer mountains and views to beach breaks but occasionally visit Hua Hin and PKK for Ao Manao and the weekend market. Living in Ayutthaya have obviously done the historical city ruins many times but still enjoy the night markets that are held annually with the backlit ruins creating a beautiful atmosphere. Ayutthaya could be considered dull with neither mountains nor beaches but is an ideal location for going north or south with Kanchanaburi and Pattaya also within easy reach. Have ventured into Isaan visiting some friends and a great hot and sticky time at the candle festival. For a long time a trip to Roi Et has been mentioned to visit the oldest bil in his well established life as a monk, would be interesting but the drive is a bit daunting with only a stop off at Nakhon Ratchasima to break the journey. I tend to think of Isaan as a place for retirees to tend their farms rather than a tourist destination !. Out and abouts are still plentiful and our favourite go to spot is 30 km up the 32 highway. With good eating and a marvellous walk through market full of Thai snacks and delicacies to have a little relax and feed some fish. Attracts a lot of visitors as the old fella can be seen from the highway but you can always find a seat to sit and enjoy the peaceful view while regretting having that third soup !! With the oldest at Uni and the youngest at college but close to a term working down south will be time to do another road trip, just the little lady and me. Liked exploring the pebbly coves around Chumporn with a stop off at PKK or HH to dip our toes sounds like bliss. Or Nan could be a new place to explore ? As for the bar stool scene, for me that is reserved for when i visit my old drinking/working buddies back in the U.K. every one or two years. Here my alcohol intake is the very occasional Jack Soda once in a while. But as bar stooling (?) is a predominantly nocturnal pastime I don’t see why both activities, stooling and O & A’s, couldn’t be done ?? Some guys like the bar scene day and night and good for them, Thailand is a place with many options and we are all here for varying reasons so make the best of your time on this planet, it doesn’t last forever !!

Some mini series I found on YouTube of all places and thought they were worthy of a mention. Amnesia (2004) John Hannah stars as a detective searching for his missing wife while investigating a strange case of an amnesiac who might not be all he seems. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0398414/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk A Touch of Cloth ( 2012-2015) John Hannah again stars as a detective but this time it is a parody of the more serious crime series we are used to. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2240991/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk Innocent (2018) season 1 After 7 years in prison for murdering his wife David Collins has his conviction overturned and is desperate to prove his innocence. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5963958/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk -

Employee Shuttle Bus Overturns in Pathum Thani, Injuring Eight
Andrew Dwyer replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
I drove from Ayutthaya to Bangkok yesterday morning, it had rained very heavily overnight in Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani but that didn’t seem to matter to the drivers despite it being overcast and a lot of water remaining. Saw the aftermath of 4 accidents within around 30 kms, mostly rear end shunts in the “ fast “ lane but also a van on it’s side off the highway and in the waterlogged gully at the side …. slippery slope indeed ! -
Am not aware of any method of reporting defective chargers but there needs to be one and I would use it if it was plainly advertised, maybe it is and i didn’t see it ……. I rarely read the small print on anything !! There was an EV Station Pluz charger ( PTT Station ) with the the QR codes missing , looked like they had recently been removed, still sticky patches. I moved on to the next pump ….. feeling guilty now !! EDIT: just had a quick look at EV Station Pluz app and don’t see any report fault button, possibly on the charger itself there is a phone number for reporting faults ?
