Apologies, I read somewhere that on an EV more energy is used for cooling the battery and restricts the air conditioning effectivity . Seems like this is not the case, unless BYD did not take this into account.
-
Not an owner but I did stalk the FB Atto 3 groups for a while as I was convinced i would buy one. In the end I have compromised with a HEV for the longer trips and will buy a BYD Dolphin shortly for more local stuff. Good reviews all round for the Atto 3, the only major complaints being: Poor quality tyres ( although these may have been updated now). Poor air conditioning ( seems like an EV issue). The usual warning bells and whistles popular now on more safety equipped cars. As said above, home charging is essential for an EV and preferably a TOU meter for the cheaper overnight rate, or even more preferably …. solar. Some others you might consider: Neta V 549k BYD Dolphin 699/869k MG4. 869/969k MG EP 771k MG ES. 9xxk Ora Good Cat 828/959k Out of these the MG EP Estate might interest you as you mentioned shuttling kids around, at 771k it is excellent value but might be tough to find now as being superseded by the updated MG ES.

Online 90 day report
Andrew Dwyer replied to LauChan's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You should receive an email almost immediately stating your application has been received. The approval email can come quickly or not. I would get mine approved in around 20 hours but last time took 13 days . -
Yup, mine has been steadily going downhill since we moved in 5 years ago, with the water supply being reduced drastically at the weekends. I recently upgraded my storage from 700 to 1500 litres but the problem now is such a low pressure it cannot get up into the tank !! 200 houses affected. The prime suspect is a new moobahn being constructed nearby .

Samui Immigration. Another stupid change.
Andrew Dwyer replied to phetphet's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
Ayutthaya IO was exactly as you stated, the small lobby would be full of people waiting to get their docs checked before you get a queue number and sometimes after a while waiting they would collect all the 90 days passports and docs to speed it up. Now they have a separate window for 90 days only, 5 minutes tops !! Of course online is the best way to go but it’s a bit hit and miss here, took 13 days to approve even though I had appeared in person after 1 week pending. -
Actually having water related issues of a different kind now Owl. Had 5 days without city water, on day 3 a truck came and gave us around 500 litres. Now the water pressure is so low it cannot make it up to the tank !!, tried a hosepipe from the meter straight to the tank ( more direct route, my underground pipe has a few 90° elbows in it) but no joy ! Anything above waist height and it runs out of steam/water !!, unless we siphon it into some plastic dustbins for showering. The water situation was never great here but now I feel like we have gone back 50 years overnight. I hear Phuket has been rationing water recently, I wonder if the same is happening here. Nobody seems to know what is happening, moobahn head honcho is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.

Here in Ayutthaya, the rainfall is not excessive but the danger comes from the river, actually 2 rivers as here is where the Chao Phraya and Pasak converge heading down to BKK. The flooding here mainly comes from the dams releasing water upstream, combined with the rain, and bursting the banks. Of course it’s the poor , building on the cheap low lying land who suffer the most. When we see trucks driving round selling those plastic moulded flat bottom boats, most commonly blue , we know things are going to get damp real quick !!

Yup, I have some Peacock fan friends back home and although disappointed at the Premier failure are looking forwards to some good games in the championship but they need a good manager first. That Big Sam fiasco was as absurd as the PM race here !! The alternatives aren’t so great, Bradford City or Park Avenue !!

Credit Card in Thailand
Andrew Dwyer replied to Robin's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
@Robin Call the number on the back of your U.K. cc card and call early morning here to get a quick response. Had a few of those security blocks as I have a U.K. cc card but use it rarely. -
Yup, she could have been your true soul mate and with a view of Elland Road as well !!, although that’s not much of a plus these days ????
-
There’s also a switch to “ view signature “ on and off which I didn’t realise existed, now see a few posters have a signature !

Many retain some allegiance with their home country, a bank account an address ( usually a family member ) or a house/apartment etc usually rented out. A bad relationship, lack of tolerance for the food/people/weather can cause depression and many find themselves returning to their home country. Of course, many have success here also and find happiness but it is always advisable to keep a plan B ( return home ) available if possible.

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Andrew Dwyer replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Okay, so not really Thailand related but does go a long way to explain the current thinking in designing an EV, an interesting video imho. Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want a frunk that size !! -
Agree with “Two” , streaming sites are plentiful, quick and full of content both new and old. I used torrent sites for a few years but don’t see a need now. I use fmovies.to and find it excellent, episodes of current series are available the moment they are released, the same with movies. I have flitted around trying different streaming sites as some work better than others and are also dependent on the browser you are using.

Foreign Man Climbs Famous Chalong Temple and Jumps
Andrew Dwyer replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Saw the video on the news last night. He was fighting off his would be rescuers and definitely jumped, whether he was trying to miss or land on the airbag is unclear. He made contact with the side of the airbag and died from his injuries. -

It’s nice to get a laugh emoji for the above post. Usually i would find it very strange when my post was not intended to be humorous, but when i see the author of said emoji has “ Ford “ in his username I understand ……… i mean any lover of that model cannot have much to laugh about !! -

I don’t think anyone has claimed it a benefit, more like it’s not such a hardship that some make out . As stated above, an EV is not ideal for those who make frequent long trips but some plan their stops and find the small inconvenience is outweighed by the money saved. An HEV or PHEV for the longer trips and a small EV for the local stuff is possibly the ideal situation ? -

160k more for the extended range Dolphin, bigger battery + range, more horses, more torque, a sunroof, upgraded suspension and two tone paintwork. Seems like an okay deal . Personally i would like an extended range with all the trimmings except for the sunroof and the two tone paintwork on the bonnet ( roof only ) but compromises have to be made. Same deal as the Atto 3 except if you want factory AC charger installed it is 25k plus seems like they have dropped the free servicing which cannot be very expensive ? can it ? -

Latest OTA update on the Atto 3 , in AUS at least, trials the Dynamic Range Prediction. Interesting to see if this works reliably. https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/the-new-features-the-byd-atto-3-gets-with-its-latest-update -

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Andrew Dwyer replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
The comparison is very basic and can be read in many ways, City Turbo has great range. Dolphin has the best baht to kilometre ratio. Kicks has excellent range, the best hp and 0-100 but sorely lacking in the safety stuff. Yaris is cheapest but very slow off the mark . Mazda sits somewhere in the middle. Depends what you are looking for in a car, for some these results might be a deal breaker but obviously looks, comfort, loading space, ride handling, service and reliability should be taken into account also. -

Here’s another comparison about how the standard Dolphin stacks up against similar priced ICE cars in the 700/750k range.
