  1. There’s another site called Getaround with the same format but Turo looks like it is more established in the field with many reviews and flexibility on picking up and drop off.
  2. Yup, location certainly changes the situation. Just did a comparison on cheapest option for two identical bookings, except for: Pick up/return Manchester Airport £1,436 Pick up/return Leeds Downtown. £747 Could get taxi or train to Leeds and still be quids in !!
  3. Yes, the prices have definitely skyrocketed. I have been visiting the U.K. for the last 27 years and it’s always been a 5 minute job to pick a decent car from a big rental company for a reasonable price. Now I find myself considering my options; a train ride from the airport to my hometown to enable a cheaper rental or an older car from the Turo option ( posted above by SussexExpat ) to lessen the blow .
  4. This is interesting, yes seems like you say an Airbnb for cars, prices are reasonable with drop off and pick ups available, of course insurance is on top. Not sure if I understand their pricing regime though, look at these two comparisons:
  5. Location seems to affect the quote drastically, 3 identical bookings/car etc only at different pick up/return locations. Vary from £751.50 to £2819.59 !! Blimey !!
  6. Yes, very frustrating trying to find a deal, the advertised low prices disappear when you start to look deeper. I’ve used Green Motion before and they were good, I had a lot of trouble getting my money back from Rentalcars when I cancelled due to Covid. I have a theory that using a non-airport location will be cheaper and am looking at that option.
  7. Yup, my old lady calls it “ Hin cuck “ or crushed stone .
  8. I’ve recently booked an airline flight for a trip to the U.K. for last 3 weeks of August, as expected the flights are now more expensive and I ended up paying roughly twice what I paid in December 2019. As i usually book a cheap runaround for the duration I took a look to see what the prices are like, won’t make the actual booking until closer to travel date. But the prices seem to be vastly increased to my last booking, roughly 4 or 5 times what I paid for the same trip as above. Are the prices really so much more now or am I missing something ?
  9. Yup, I had some of that delivered a few years ago, I think mine is 3/4”, certainly was a good workout getting it into the garden. In fact i probably should order some more to try and trim the expanding waistline !!
  10. Okay thanks Crossy, have seen the Super Power at Shell and Esso, the price usually frightens me away .
  11. What’s the difference between the two 95’s ( the orange and the yellow ) ? I use PTT stations and fill up with the orange 95, don’t remember seeing the yellow one.
  12. The Outlaws season 2 to be released 5th June. Stephen Merchant, Christopher Walken and those other social misfits back for another lesson in how NOT to live your best life !! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11646832/
  13. @Bandersnatch wonder if this is the green MG5 you mentioned on the video, seen at the Ayutthaya City Mall and there’s a few “ superstars “ appearing this evening .
  14. Just enquired at an MG booth in my local mall about availability of the EP , apparently advance booking is closed and doesn’t appear to be available again until next year , people taking advantage of the subsidy it would appear. No mention of how long delivery takes.
  15. Station wagon ? ( Estate in the U.K. ) That would be the EP ( MG 5 ) in the U.K., have to agree it does look nice, have seen with and without roof rails and much prefer it with the rails as it doesn’t have a roof antenna ( shark fin or otherwise ) and, imho, looks a little bland without . With the current government subsidy is a great price right now and are in demand, unfortunately a long wait due to battery related parts.
  16. It’s in the Phuket Forum for some reason.
  17. Maybe it’s only for Phuket residents ?
  18. Thanks Bandersnatch, i did watch it , albeit from the 27 minute mark. That’s a big chunk of change difference in price for the EP’s and ZS EV’s from the U.K. price if only they were available !!
  19. From GWM via Line: Sources from autolifethaland, the latest information, have postponed the launch date of the world's first Haval H6 PHEV, which will be launched in Thailand this month, from the previous schedule to the end of this year at the earliest. Customers who are interested in further inquiries with the authorities can provide 1) the number and 2) the subject they want to inquire about on this line.
  20. There was some talk that for the over 75’s , where mandatory health insurance was difficult to obtain coverage, some exemptions would be allowed if you have sufficient funds to self insure . But that is only hearsay and I don’t believe ever became an actual ruling. If this is your case , over 75 and not finding any insurance available, only a visit to your local immigration office can answer your question.
  21. The insurance company LMG seem pretty sure it’s going to happen, they released the new table ( for 3m baht coverage ) last year !
  22. With a retirement extension from an OA visa you will need mandatory health insurance 40/400k coverage rising to 3 million baht coverage in Sept 2022 irrespective of how much money you have in a Thai bank. Historically Phuket is the only immigration office not to apply that requirement on long term ( pre 2018 ) extensions. Although that exemption is now in doubt, hence this thread.
  23. I would say the U.K. economy is on a downward slide and the uncertainty of how far it will go is causing further weakening of the £. They have been quoting a rising inflation rate for a while and The Bank of England ( not always famous for their accuracy I know) is quoting 10% before the end of the year, falling back to 2% in two years time. News like this is enough to cause changes to foreign currency exchange rates.
  24. Seems like the OP is applying for a retirement extension, off an OA visa, and is in Phuket. Phuket Immigration was the only IO ( as far as I know ) to not require the health insurance on OA extension previous to 2018. Anyway, the OP also has another parallel thread on the subject:
