Thanks, seen many of your NotsoGood’s mentioned, in particular: Soft suspension <deleted> tyres , plenty for sale on FB as changed, sometimes for 19” and 20” ( rumoured to be changed to Continental soon ) Lack of adjustment in seat head restraints ( many buy Air Lumba support from Lazada etc ) Tech that doesn’t stay disabled and has to be turned off at start up. ACC , LKA and AEB all too sensitive to the point of dangerous. Air con - not so efficient and noisy at times. No spare tyre - unfortunately a sign of the times, difficult to buy a car with a spare now . Saw a video about someone fastening some aluminium ( I think ) plate under the battery pack of an atto 3 and it looked very much like there was a tyre well there, but haven’t seen a video of a Thai utilising it so I guess I was mistaken .

Thanks, I’d be interested in seeing your comments as owner of an Atto 3. Interesting that a 15.6” screen will be offered on the U.K. ( I did read one report that said 16.6” but think it was a typo ), although have seen some owners on the Thai FB groups already upgrading to a 15.6” and also some with a flexible mount to angle in any direction !! The 12.8” already seems more than adequate to me. The Thais do like to modify their cars, so many owners putting wraps, one guy made his yellow !!, and spoilers and radiator (?) protectors , adding Netflix, YouTube, etc etc. Many variations on the debadging which I do agree with, kinda opposite of many MG owners plastering Morris Garages on the front, or back, of their motors . Also seen an ad on FB for a company putting additional lettering on the front, their ad showed a photo of a GREAT WALL MOTERS badge , i tried to point out the mistake put fell on deaf ears ☹️

I would hope common sense would prevail and if someone rear ends you they are in the wrong but I hope I never find out.

All a big misunderstanding ???? The 896,000 baht quote for replacing the battery was done in error and BYD quickly released the official battery figures. The battery ( standard range ) didn’t need changing in the end and a new insurance quote created. But, BYD didn’t come out unscathed, the insurance cover was only 1 million baht on a 1.1 million baht car with 150k on top absorbed by the government incentive. Most other EV’s sold in Thailand are giving an insurance valuation of more than the purchased price ( due to the government incentive).

Atto 3 main complaints are LKA and AEB ( autonomous emergency braking ) slamming all on for seemingly non emergency events, a big problem here when the guy behind doesn’t know the meaning of a safe stopping distance .

Well the EP+ was, as you say, the bargain of the the century, those who got one before the reservations were cancelled can count themselves very fortunate. I think the “ worth “ of a car depends on how much you want/like it and how much you are willing to pay, the sheer number of Atto 3 being sold means there’s plenty who think it worth it . Likewise i think the MG4 is worth its price tag and will be a good seller. This new ES is still worth the money, imho, despite the proposed 150k increase for the update but i don’t think it will hit the figures they are hoping, the actual boot space being only 9 ltrs bigger than the ZS EV ( 479 v 470 ltrs ) is disappointing.

BYD still getting some pressure about the lack of clarification over the battery replacement valuation. While the insurance estimate was all a big “ misunderstanding “ they are being probed about the 1 million baht valuation of a 1,099,90 baht car when an additional 150k has been absorbed by the government. @KhunLA has frequently stated his valuation exceeded his purchase price of his MG ZS EV and Neta V also giving a positive insurance valuation. 610k on a 549k purchase. BYD need to reassess their valuations in light of the rust and “ batterygate “ affair if they wish to continue topping the EV sales chart. Note: it’s still my favourite and top of my list despite these little bumps in the road ????

Yes, the ES , like the ZS EV , is as far as the older platform can be pushed imho but still a great bargain for a small suv or estate EV. The MG4 is another level and the driving experience sets it apart. I suspect MG will already be planning to extend the new platform to replace the ZS and ES in the near future. Amazing when you think of the short lifetime in Thailand how the MG cars have evolved so quickly as the technology advances. In general I would say MG have been spot on with their choices with the exception of the VS and possibly the short lived GS.

Apart from the new exterior and LED lights front and back there are: New alloys Privacy glass on the rear windows New info screen Floating centre console with new function buttons. Seats have different materials as does the steering wheel. Now has the iSMART app connection ( as poor as it is !). Not so many changes on the inside but enough to give a different car feel. Price point seems in line with the MG4 , lacking the shortcut buttons on the steering wheel of the MG4 but does have a rear armrest, with the all important cup holders ????, and lights for the rear passengers ( an issue for parents struggling with car seats ) both lacking on the MG4. So, another option for MG EV drivers, can now choose between the sportier MG4 or the flexible ES ( EP Minorchange ) , the bigger boot being the deal breaker i would say, 353 ltrs v 479 ltrs.

No insurance refund from the preliminary data I was worried. To clear everything up. As the initial news was out, only the preliminary price info is worth replacing battery and all other parts. And battery price is still not correct. Concerns many ATTO3 users. I have to say that all this time, I have been impressed by BYD ATTO 3. It is one of the very good cars I have used. So I want to come out and explain the story to everyone. And I don't want to be misunderstood with the price shared in the media. And I have been very cooperated. The information was satisfactory. Buying an EV is becoming easier every day, but I think I would draw the line at buying one on Lazada .

I had a Honda Jazz and the procedure was as @MJCM stated above. The “ key” was hidden inside the fob and extracted by squeezing and pulling the silver part, yours might be the same.

Okay, well an EV should cut the cost of fuel down from 2.50 baht per km to 0.75 baht ( rough figures from reporting in Facebook groups ) using the cheapest method of charging ( a TOU meter and off peak charging ). ( not counting solar ). EV’s are most cost effective in the city as battery power is regenerated via braking and less cost effective on highway runs, the exact opposite to combustion engines so in your son’s case makes a lot of sense. I would still suggest you look at Neta V as the cheapest EV , 549k with a reputable name or the MG4, 869/969k, with a more expansive dealership and reputable name. The MG EP is an estate/station wagon which might be useful transporting children and possible sports equipment or bikes around. The previous version was a price beating 771k but I’m not sure of the price of the new version due anytime soon. I would add that while there are cheaper Chinese EV’s available, as mentioned above, some level of safety should be considered especially as the primary objective is to ferry children around, so personally I wouldn’t consider anything less than the Neta V.

Ah okay, I must admit I was a little confused as to whether the Nissan Kicks was HEV or EV . Apparently it’s a different type of hybrid. From Nissan website: ”However, what sets it apart from the rest is that the electric motor is the only one that drives the vehicle forward. The job of the gasoline engine is to act as a generator to supply the battery pack with more power when needed thus powering the electric motor in return. The proper term for this is a series hybrid which differs from the more common parallel hybrids that you see in most of the hybrid vehicles available in the country today. This simply means that Kicks can’t use its gasoline engine to move the wheels. ”

I think the op has done his duty and now it is up to his friend to see the light. The OP’s biggest challenge is refraining from saying “ I told you so “ when his friend confirms his suspicions this time next year.

I’m not knocking Nissan owners and i don’t know why I haven’t considered them. Maybe their marketing dynamic isn’t making them as attractive as the Chinese invasion. Japanese cars, although reliable have a certain tendency to stay safe, particularly the interior. With the Chinese EV influx is a certain futuristic element, bigger screens, rotating screens, two tone interiors , built in dvr’s , 360 degrees cameras etc etc Obviously it’s down to taste , some like the quirky interiors, some don’t. But, you are right, the Nissan Kicks should be added to the list, starting at 749k it certainly falls into the affordable bracket.
