Latest on Savannakhet and Ho Chi Minh City
MajorTom replied to KhaoYai's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I don't recommend to try that now. I did this once, and succeeded. Without lying or faking anything. I tried a similar procedure later, and was strictly told I have to stay in the application country during the process. I think there was just some confusion about the rules in the early days of the e-visa system. Also, it was not possible to upload the required travel history. Since the website would only accept single jpg files. This has now been fixed. -
eVisa Border Bump
MajorTom replied to night_rider's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Something i have learned over the years: Don't lie or cheat. But never ask more questions or give more information than absolutely necessary. This can save you a lot of hassle. Asking an embassy clerk if either: Is it possible to do this in a smooth easy way? or would you like it to make it as difficult as possible?.. Its pretty obvious what answer you will get. That's like asking my dog if he wants snacks or not ???? -
eVisa Border Bump
MajorTom replied to night_rider's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Do you have any source for this? I'm not saying you are wrong, but I did research this a while ago and could not find a clear answer. I did not try to fake anything when i applied for the e-visa. I used my Thai address as place of permanent residence. Did not pretend to be in the application country by changing IP etc. I know at some point in the process you have to prove a local address. But I thought that's only if you are not a national of the country you apply in? Or to direct you to the correct consulate if you happen to apply in a country that has more than one Thai consulate/embassy? -

Why not? It certainly worked for me. Do you have other experience? -
'Incorrect' Name on Bangkok Airways Ticket Booking
MajorTom replied to siftasam's topic in Chiang Mai
It will not be a problem. I never use my middle name on flight bookings. Neither did my employer who sent me around the world for 2 decades. Its a bit confusing when they state "Must match name in passport". This is obviously not correct. I have done this dozens of times with BKK airways, first and surname only. Never had an issue. -
The fans should start about immediately if you start the car idle with AC on. If not, you have a problem either with fan motors or temperature switch. I replaced both my fans recently after the wife submerged the car in water.. They were sort of still running but at a very low speed/erratic. Motors were damaged. Engine will not overheat so quickly if you have a fan failure. There is still circulation of coolant. With a pump failure or air pockets however it will happen very fast.

Yes, they come in 2,3 and 5 terminals as far as i have seen. Excellent product IMO. Solid and compact. Fits anywhere.

Why? Since when? I have traveled to Cambodia on motorcycle a few times. Some paperwork on the border but it was definitely possible.

You are probably one of the first people ever to try a border run after obtaining an e-visa. Let us know the result if you do. I did something similar, but I did fly out and back in. Border runs wasn't possible/difficult at the time. Personally I would not chance it. It doesn't cost too much time or money to just fly to KL or SIN and back on the same day.

Getting a temporary residence certificate to sell a car in phuket
MajorTom replied to CrossBones's topic in Phuket
I have never been asked for a CoR to sell anything in Phuket. Never heard of it from anyone else either. Strangely, I was asked for one in Chiang Mai some years ago when i sold a motorcycle. If you absolutely need one, TMT Visa will sort it. I have used them several times. They have offices in Patong and Kathu. I think the price is 1500. -
I also talk from experience and its the opposite of yours. Passport number did not matter. Probably varies from different banks, branches etc. I was actually worried about this when i did a withdrawal from my SCB account a few days ago. So i also brought the old passport i used when opening the account with me just in case. They did not ask for it.

Don't think too much. In my line of work across the globe i have had visas issued for several countries from embassies I have never been to. This is completely normal practice. I also did get a Thai e-visa from my native EU country while in Thailand. Flew to Cambodia and returned on that visa with no issues. I have not been to Europe for years. Legal practice? Why not? I cant think of any good reason it would not be. Other than making things difficult for the sake of it. Where you are during this visa process makes zero practical difference.

Right and wrong. VA and Watts will be the same in a circuit with only resistive load. Including your example with heating elements. With inductive load (motors, transformers etc.) there will be a difference determined by the power factor of the components. Labeled as cos φ. Not very relevant for any layman using a household extension cord. Either way, stick to VA when calculating wire dimensions.

Getting an International Driving License in Thailand
MajorTom replied to ezzra's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
True. I did try when i lost my 5 year license and IDP due to visa issues. Not a chance. Source? I researched this quite extensively when i was stuck with the 2 year one. I could not find any support for this claim, and i did use it in other countries. Including car rentals as far as i can remember.
