  1. Fertile, working farmland is cheaper in Scotland than fertile, working farmland in Thailand?
  2. Is not being able to disprove a hypothesis a big part of it becoming a fact? I believe the Earth is warming and I don't doubt human activity impacts the change, BUT I doubt very much that a large percentage of climate scientists are working to to show that the Earth is not warming and or that human activity has no impact on the change.
  3. You think it would be better if "...95% of the land is owned by 20 people and the other 5% get to squabble over a council flat in possill park ?" I'm guessing you're planning on being one of the twenty people, yes?
  4. Do you really think it unfortunate that people are not desperate to sell their property?
  5. Yes, there are any number of things I would like that I can't afford, but I don't blame the "peasants" for driving up the price. So the "peasants" inherit the land from their hiso parents? However they get it, they have it, and them not selling it keeps the price high. That you can't do it does not mean others can't. People get into farming here all the time, some are successful and some aren't. A friend I worked with about ten years ago leased property and farmed it on the side and while he still works at the plant, he makes money with the farm.
  6. If they want to sell it, they will have to reduce the price until someone buys it, yes?
  7. That "peasants" owning property drives up the price up such that it is you cannot afford it is unfortunate, but the same thing happens when they buy anything. If "peasants" were buying up all the condos they would drive the price of those up as well. Why it angers you is something you should contemplate...
  8. The inflation is real, not artificial. The fact is, bigger farms are generally better managed and more economical than small farms making food more plentiful.
  9. I thought the policy was to waive the excise tax for first time car buyers making them more affordable, no?
  10. Probably, but you will likely not find or at least secure a bargain like that.
  11. Why do you and apparently Chomper, gargamon and others here assume all non-scientists are locked into their opinion and do not want to evidence that contradicts their position? There are many things I believe that I would very much like to be convinced I am wrong about, and I think that's true for a lot of people. In any event, trying to disprove a hypothesis is only done to support the hypothesis. The data collected while attempting unsuccessfully to disprove the hypothesis is used as data that supports the hypothesis, yes? So I think it same to assume 97% of all scientists are working to prove climate change is a hoax, yes?
  12. Why do you think I'm resentful of teachers? I don't think I am. Why would you ask that, because you think I ask stupid people if they are English teachers? In any event, I don't remember much about primary school, but I think I thought they were all smart. When I was in high school again, I thought they were all smart. When I was in engineering school I realized that like students, some were bright, most were average and some were not bright. Again, I don't think any of them were stupid.
  13. Nice when something works out without a lot of problems...
  14. I don't even know where I want to be right now, but If I could get a great apartment in an area I love for ten-dollars a month by paying 6-7 years up-front I'd jump on it. I could always sublet it... I guess I just more of a risk-taker than you....
  15. Axiomatic or otherwise, the consensus does not always change when new information becoms available. Indeed So a non-scientist has an opinion, but a scientist has a hypothesis, and they are both looking for evidence to support their opinion/hypothesis, yes? That is not much of a difference. Are you an English teacher too?
  16. I never said it was a donation, no need to make things up. The $1.2B was provided to help AZ accelerate the development before it was proven effective and to secure 300M doses, not to pay for the doses.
  17. If this where I say yes I would again? I said if I liked it and if the price was right.
  18. I would sign a long term lease on a house if I liked it and the price was right, why not?
