Travelling USA from 1984 to 1995 I got a seriously reality check while experience everything else I thought USA was and about. Minnesota visiting family was my first trip, and not so much different from what I thought USA was about, but going east and south changed my perspective radically, and the state Washington I truly saw poverty, and the same in Florida, but different. China have already passed USA in so many ways, technology vise and will and power to execute essential projects faster and better than what we can do and perform in the west.

Married with a thai and got property in Thailand. This is just a question of respect for other people, no matter you are Thai, expat or tourist, and without consequences, nothing will change until the authorities take action. The smokers do not like to be told what they should do or not, so unfortunately, the only thing that works is consequences. My experiences is from Koh Chang, Koh Kood, Koh Mak (not as bad as the other island, because higher standard resorts mostly) Koh Phangaan, Koh Tao, Koh Phayam, and Krabi in general the two last years, and also some individual beaches on the stretch from Surat Thani up to Prachuap Khiri Khan. North of Prachaup not so much. Experiences within the last two years, and last christmas holiday the worst ever

There is no better retirement place yet than Thailand where you easily can live for 30k baht a month if you do not count insurance and travelling money or excessive party lifestyle. Best infrastructure and public services, visa options, and for single guys, only Philippines can compete with Thailand if you are living on budget. Riding my motorbikes around in Thailand off the tourist tracks, you do not see Thai smoke in public, like you see tourists smoke in tourist infested areas. They do not smoke on restaurants with kids, do not sit and roll their joints on the table in public, at the ferries, pick up points. If you see them, its locals at the rasta/pirat/jungle bar and sometimes all the way up in the corner of a beach.

Thailand is not the place if you have any specific ocd of kind I had mine with public toilets, but getting better by the years

I do not like the new drug tourists infest the hot spots I used to travel to. It is smoking weed everywhere and thats how it is. No matter its testaurants, pick up points for ferry, buss, around the swimmingpool balconies, ,,,,,, Worst is the islands who had the weed culture, but only assigned to certain bars and redorts, now all over the place. It will be intersting to see whats going to happen next.

Where you from? This is Thailand, if they ask you for id, you give them id, or anything else they are asking for. Even a piss test and search your personal items and your room.
