  1. I prefer the aisle seat in the middle row so If I fall asleep, and the middle guy need to get out, he can ask the neighbour if awake, and last trip now, I hade a monk who had the window seat, and nobody between us which is perfect. But he had to get out at once I fell asleep, and from there, he was 5 times up and down during the fligh, and the row in front of us, drink had had fun until one hour left. and next, I got some width on my shoulders, so no matter how small I make myself, somebody manage to bump in to me if I sit at the aisle, and even I sit window, there is some disturbance from the neighbours, if not they are 160cm and 50kg. Another bothering thing is the one behind me use his touch screens for games, and hit 1000 times, or push their knees up in my back, or kick the seat once and awhile. From Spain last trip, still a bit jetleg, there was a few both ways who manage to speak for 4 hours and 15 minutes straight. Not so common on flights to Thailand, but especially the direct flighst from most Europeen major cities, there is quite a few who drink to much, and somehow make disturbance. If there was no disturbance Im sure I would easily make 4-5 hours of sleep, but always something
  2. I think when you have lived in Thailand, you start to find simple things you didnt bother dealing with annoying. And to be true as said many times already, this spring heat and the extended pollution season because lack of rain, AND the confusion about taxing not only income, but everything you would transfer to Thailand, made it easy for me to just do what I had been thinking about for awhile. The last drop made it There is no way in hell I will pay tax to a country I have no rights, never will, and all they want me to do, is to pay more for nothing. And the best part, Im still young, and have no problem to move back home. Last and not less important, my wife will have the possiblity to gain pension and another citizenship, and that is important thinking of whats might hit us in the future. Dual citizenship if another pandemic or war hits us, can be handy
  3. A good explanation might be Americans mental health status, and why do Americans have such bad mental health? Richest country in the world? People can struggle with many issues, not only drugs and lazyness. A couple of random sources Adult Prevalence of Mental Illness (AMI) 202219.86% of adults are experiencing a mental illness. Equivalent to nearly 50 million Americans. 4.91% are experiencing a severe mental illness. The state prevalence of adult mental illness ranges from 16.37% in New Jersey to 26.86% in Utah. https://mhanational.org/issues/2022/mental-health-america-adult-data What percentage of the US population has mental health issues? Millions of people are affected by mental illness each year. Across the country, many people just like you work, perform, create, compete, laugh, love and inspire every day. 22.8% of U.S. adults experienced mental illness in 2021 (57.8 million people). This represents 1 in 5 adults. https://www.nami.org/about-mental-illness/mental-health-by-the-numbers/ It is estimated that more than one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (59.3 million in 2022; 23.1% of the U.S. adult population). 4. Good climate and quality is not just sunshine and beaches, and if you have resourches, you live one place and travel for holidays and adventures. Switzerland is great to, you just have to find your specific interest. Thailand doesnt have great climate at all, even some do claim so, and to be true, my experience its 3 months maybe 4 at best if you change locations, there is good climate in Thailand. and then you have 2 months with ok climate. Pretty much same everywhere you chose to settle. What makes thailand good to live, is quality housing, quality food (which cost), friendly and safe country with no conflict zones you have to be afraid of, not even in Bangkok. And Thailand have good infrastructure all over the country mostly. But after 8 years living here, visiting for 20 + I find Thailand boring, I need new impulses, and I need to have something to do that makes me want to get up in the Morning. But I feel the same for Spain, Portugal, and simular countries, Been spending winters in Florida, and thats the last destination I want to go back to, so understand the Americans want to relocate from Florida. Quality life in California, your money is better spent in Europe for sure
  5. Michelle I guess would be the only woman who could run and win given the other options who failed. She got what it takes to win people over to her side, and who knows, I think she could have beaten Trump to in the previous elextion. No matter what hardcore republicans think of Obama and her, she would managed to give hope to everyone lost at the middle ground. Kamala doesnt have any appeal to the people at all, she is just not likeable or trustworthy how she tried to play Trumps game, and suits best as a judge,
  6. Seems I have done the right choice going back! I have one friend who relocated to Slovenia, and seems to be very happy making that choice. He used to live in New York and also Thailand. Of course he like outdoor sports, and Slovenia offers great nature, cheap living costs, great food, and he as me still able to work, and also willing to continue working. Spain is great, Portugal is ok, but this is destinations you can go for holidays and visit, Europe got alot more to offer. I think France offers best healthcare options if I do not mistaken It is a good list here with options for non Eu citizens https://immigrantinvest.com/blog/retirement-countries-for-americans-en/
  7. I always book airport hotel and stay until I have to check in, and make sure I get some sleep before I leave the hotel. On the plane I sleep maybe a few times for 20 - 30 min a few times, but unless it is business class, it is not possible for me to make some good sleep at airplanes. To much disturbance around me and another reason, after the new planes got better airquality, makes it harder to sleep, but in the old days, you slept more because of the airquality, but even not drinking, you had or felt like you had a hangover.
  8. I didn't claim you where, I know you very well from this forum and many of your posts, but general many do on this forum. They seems to despise bar girls, but happy to use their services. Quite a few times random guys who advised me (somehow took me for being a newbie) how to use bar girls, and Thai women for that sake. Smartasses is everywhere
  9. The thing is, you can't give grown up men advise, they will do exactly what they want, and not listening to others. Live and learn, Common sense is either something you bring with, not something you learn.
  10. There is a difference between some individuals rich or poor, those who invest everything they have on one bad card, and those who don't. How many times are we going to listen to those who lost everything and their hate speeches against women/prostitutes Seems many here who constantly bringing up bar ladies and their qualities, have some kind of fixation about them in a negative way. Often same members with new nicknames. Afteraall, it is not their business what others do or not, but still it seems occupying their minds.
  11. The worst problem with jetleg, is your body functions, when to go and do your deeds, and since I'm often have to work when back, I sleep when I can, and find that's the best way for me. Even 10 - 20 min middle of day do wonders.
  12. Didn't you feel lonely up there?
  13. Headphones with sound canceling is the best for flights, and normal industrial earplugs used the correct way and size. This the correct way to insert earplugs, but you finish off by holding your finger another 10sec while it expanding in your ear before letting go. He didnt do that in this video. Didnt botter to find another, but sure you understand https://youtu.be/xF1CjCugD_M?si=2YQMrbNcB2APWDR_
  14. You are right, Half life is 48 hours for diazepam, and Dormicum only 2.5 hours, I was not familiar with Midazolam or Dormicum. Maybe worth checking out for next flight, thanks The last year I haven't bothered using anything, and I haven't slept one hour, still "only 11 hours and 12,5 hours direct flight, so it okay.
  15. Antihistamine makes me drowsy, so I use it at evening before bedtime. diphenhydramine or benadryl is well known used for temporary insomnia, and might work well for some. An better solution for sure.
  16. Just want to warn those who think it is a great idea to buy the blue 10mg at pharmacy without an Dr prescription, you risk trouble both when leaving the country, and also arriving your destination with valium. I know many do, but on your own risk. From "backyard pharmacies", you most likely get counterfeit diazepam (valium) which is quite normal in Thailand.
  17. You do not get zonked our, but an God idea to take 5mg first and if you wake up, drink some water, 5 mg more, another needed restroom visit, and back to sleep
  18. 5 valium 5mg have been great for me, I get them at Bangkok hospital for 2k included dr fee, only two each flight, and one for the jetleg when I arrive back home if not straight of offshore. I know this was not what you asked for, but thats one of the few "legal" ways of doing it, with something that actually works. My recipee my experience, and should not be taken as an advise. One redvine for the food, and one cognac after, one bottle of water, two valium, do your needed restroom duties, and sleep
  19. Common ground is good, but for all my activities, we shared the passion for what we did, and had many different backgrounds and ages, but one single thing brought us together. Maybe AN could be such a thing? After all we know quite a bit about each and one who have been here for a while, but OP seems to be a "Newbie", or? Who knows how long he has been here, or how many profiles he previously had.
  20. It was an example where KhunLa who I have seen on the forum for years, could possibly be one I would have a drink with, but he might not feel the same for me.
  21. I would meet you in prachuap or Hua Hin for a drink if you where up for it 😉 Several here, I could have a drink with passing by, but seriously, making friends, doubt it
  22. Well, how could I miss that? Sorry for giving you my best advise. Very few sane people makes friends online on internet forums, unless you are not a weirdo or reckless. By posting over time, you might see someone who you would like to have a drink with an random place somewhere if you are traveling, but from the neighborhood? Good luck Sir
  23. Making friends in Thailand is best done where you feel "home", doing activities. If playing pool, dart or golf, thats your "home", then you have fitness, motorbiking/touring, bicycle, chess, gaming, diving, climbing kayaking, sup, or just go and find your breakfest club, you see them every morning to afternoon drinking beer and solving latest world problems on a high level 😉
  24. Nobody receives the money physically except the weapon producers, agents, carriers, lawyers and for every shipment, or donation of weapons, Ukraine sinks deeper into debt. They have great resources, and for now, it is all about securing the investments, as well as weakening Russian and strengthening the borders. Russian have stepped up their game against Europe, destroying infrastructure, and sabotaging public transports, land and sea communication systems, flight radars, and more. Reliable Media publish, but for strange reasons, doesn't seem to go viral as much at everything nuisance we have been hit like the American election for an instance
  25. He read it somewhere, he doesnt have any real life experiences, and ask about everything everywhere same as he do here at this forum. Something else with those who read all of the Bangkok Books, and have their regular seat at their favorite bar in Pattaya, they almost lived all of what you read here. They have read and heard so much during their time, that they now think they did experience all of it themselves, or at least have a friend who have a friend who experienced it. or their regular bar is in soi 6, then they know everything there is to know, first hand
