  1. Fast and quick. No way was this one getting swept under the rug.
  2. Yes, this will be taken very seriously because someone big and influential is affected.
  3. So China and Russia back to 15 day VOA?
  4. What's Italian for fiasco?
  5. I very much look forward to encountering this problem.
  6. It's 39 outside this afternoon near Salaya. But it doesn't feel too bad. I didn't even need to check the humidity (36 percent) to know it was low today. That is what makes the difference. And today was okay. The last few days have been cooler but much more humid (mid 60 percent) and they felt terrible. Still it's easy to get fooled in dry heat and get overcome before you know what hit you. I think it makes a difference if you were raised in a hot and humid environment. I grew up where there were once a string of 42 consecutive days where the temperature was over 100 F and often had the high hit around 107-110 (that's the record but a score or more of 100+ days are the rule). It was humid, too. You don't go outside on hot humid days. You don't work outside on hot humid days. And you don't exercise outside on hot humid days. I good indicator is when the asphalt on the roads is coming off and sticking to your shoe.
  7. This case will get solved, publicly or privately. A very influential person is in charge of the university the woman attended. I don't mean the university president, btw. But it is someone who has initiated widespread Thai-China educational exchanges and who is in the government.
  8. I retired from teaching at Mahidol. But I know something about the situation at BTU, which is only a few km from Mahidol's Salaya campus. There are lots of Chinese students at BTU. Almost all are getting post graduate degrees. The best program at BTU is the music program, and it has the largest amount of PRC students. Most of them are not wealthy. They are here to get a graduate credential for qualifications back in China. And back in China, most of them are already employed as teachers. Some are professors already at Chinese universities. The age range is from the early to mid 20s all the way to the late 40s.
  9. Chinese facial recognition systems are supposed to be the most thorough in the world. So these people should be easily caught, if they went back to China, yes?
  10. Thai relations with an expat's home country is his or her business.
  11. Wasn't it not so long ago that the latest Bangkok governor was being praised for his relatively liberal attitude? That's who is responsible for this move, isn't it? Seems to me that China and Russia just keep taking one step after another in controlling Thailand. US diplomacy seems inept. This latest ambassador has seemed to be better than those after Kristie Kenney--and certainly better than the charge de affair who took care of things for a couple of years--but lately all I see are reports of him going jogging and talking about how great Thai-US relations are. There should be at least a diplomatic frown coming out of this latest move.
  12. Is Leishmaniasis contracted in Thailand?
  13. Must not complain. That would disrupt social harmony.
  14. What? So it has gotten to the point that Thai Immigration is being overseen by the Chinese embassy. How long before Americans' extensions need Chinese approval?
  15. My experience in one case was the Thai hospital would not release the body until the medical expenses had been paid for.
  16. These things seem to be proliferating. Here is one for academics: https://consensus.app/search/ But it seems useless returning no results for topics I know exist and for academic articles I know exist. Can't hold a candle to Google Scholar. For what it's worth, ChatGPT did return results. But it made up a non-existent source as a reference.
  17. The level of entertainment following this story will be epic. I can't wait.
  18. Well, it's getting more interesting. Question: What should a person with an IQ of 70 major in at college? Answer: Education! and some fields of business!
  19. Ask it if it censors questions and answers. It replies: 555
  20. I think I saw this on Lost In Space when I was seven years old.
  21. Hmmm. I asked a simple factual question: How many people has Liz Cheney's father shot? And not only did it refuse to answer, it gave back a lecture.
  22. This sort of thing actually has been going on for longer than many people think. More than a decade ago, there was this "alteration" to Conrad. https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-n-word-of-the-narcissus/joseph-conrad/ruben-alvarado/9789076660110
  23. Sounds to me like they need to turn around and attack the blocking units.
  24. He's got a lab coat and a stethoscope and everything!
