Exports are down 2.1% for the year, but imports are down nearly 3.7%, resulting in a stronger current account surplus.  Yes,  it would be better to see exports up and imports up, but these figures hardly present the doom and gloom scenario so many on TV are hoping for in order to weaken the Thai Baht.  There's a trade war going on, so expect to see trade figures showing lots of unusual activity in the near term.  Longer term, Thailand may actually be a beneficiary of this, as manufacturers are dumping China and relocating elsewhere in Asia.

Also gold artificially inflates the true export numbers. PM Prayut shut down Thailand's gold mine so Thailand is a non gold producing country. They just import/export gold as a trading commodity and for jewellery.

Take out the gold element and the true decline in exports would be seriously scary.

I cannot understand the logic in linking these 3 airports, where are people going and why, Pattaya station to Bangkok airports yes but Utp?

Where people are going to and coming from and how many of them there are is immaterial.

The simple explanation is that it is part of Khun Prayut Chan-o-cha's Alice in Wonderland dream of the Eastern Economic Corridor.

In his hazy daze of junta rule he invoked Article 44 three times to remove environmental and other obstacles preventing the conception of this EEC baby.

Do you think the 2nd largest construction company in the world, one of the 12 project partners, could pick up some of the slack? Here is a 1300km hi-speed rail project they completed in 3 years. It carries 180m passengers a year.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beijing–Shanghai_high-speed_railway

I don't think anyone for one minute would question the ability of of the Chinese partners in this consortium to build HS train systems.

However the big risk is they will be dragged back to to the same level of incompetence by their Thai partners the State Rail Authority of Thailand (SRT). Just like that other highly respected HK/Chinese construction company Hopewell Holdings Limited.

If you pee on your feet:- prostate

if it smells like a barbecue:- cholesterol

if you return to your room with your member hanging outside your pants:- Alzheimer

  5. This story is false news!!!!!! Thai Airways President has just announced that the airline is not about to go under. It is all a misunderstanding and he has just told Deputy PM Somkid as much. Seems the President has received a KITA from above.

It appears news reports were "misrepresented". He was only trying to reinforce with his executives of the level of competition from low cost carriers in the airline industry. Just an exercise in "motivation" he explained. Nothing to worry about at all.

  6. I do not wish to sound trite but the problem has been fixed by Deputy Interior Minister Niphon Bunyamanee. He is arranging for there to be 20,000 less accidents on Thai roads per year.

He provided media proof by playing some stupid motorcycle game with his personal PR clown standing behind him and all his lickspittles giving him the thumbs up. See how easy it was!

This is very serious stuff for politicians who are completely bereft of brains.

  7. I hope voters remember that the Democrats deserted their supporters after the last election and joined the Palang Pracherat Party to support the PM and vote for him as Prime Minister. They in turn were handsomely rewarded by the PM with ministries and prime positions at the trough.

Political integrity cannot compete with greed in Thailand.

Sell it, and get on with it

    Interesting you should say that.

Malaysian Airlines are having similar economic problems to Thai Airways and only yesterday it was news they had shortlisted 4 potential partners for a strategic partnership with MAS.

Perhaps Thai should look at doing the same but I suspect there are too many corrupt and unproductive skeletons in the Thai Airways cupboard for any potential partner to be interested. Or there even could be a serious risk for Thai Airways to have them exposed.

Better perhaps for their sake to let them die a silent death.

  9. Rice exports down, tourism down and that's just the news today. Thai Airways stuffed an the corrupt and useless SRT almost stuffed.

The perfect economic storm seems to be gathering and the Chairman and his Economic Management Committee look like sheep among wolves and helplessly running around in circles clutching at any straw/excuse that appears.

The chickens of the 2014 coup and an incompetent Prayut Chan-o-cha government are finally coming home to roost.

What kind of studies are they thinking of? What are sound agricultural practices for rubber? They water and fertilize them i think, what else can they do?

Shonky rubber growers add a chemical to the latex to make it harden more rapidly. The tyremakers are a wakeup to this because it affects the quality of the tyre rubber. Therefore Thai rubber is not not favoured by tyre producers.

    Another Thai greed own goal.

I reply to the pitiful sarcasm that quote.

Sound like many member here WANT thailand to fail. And they angry because we winning.

Indonesia and Vietnam are not close to Thailand. Indo have the big population, but we still win.

    Not be jealous please.

    Speak fact, not you imagine.

I can answer you, help you know, get knowledge, but if you lazy to read, I lazy to answer you....

Thank you so much for that link but it seems I must remind you again the subject is about Industries moving from China to Thailand. Do you not understand that?  It is not about Thailand's existing car manufacturing. I know it might be difficult to focus but please try harder to keep on song. But I must respond to your link.

From that link you provided all I can assume is that you must have difficulty understanding written English. Did you not read the facts.

    1. Thailand..... "just over 1 million units were sold domestically".

My comments. It seems that the domestic Thai automobile industry is kept buoyant by the destruction of it's own vehicles on the roads. With a diminishing population plus human road kill it might only be a few generations before there are no drivers left whose feet will touch the pedals. What will happen to the bus and Thai domestic vehicle production then?

    2. "Vietnam is on course to be one of ASEAN’s fastest growing automobile industry over the next 20 years."

    3. "Indonesia’s Low Cost Green Car has found economic success in the domestic market. The automobile consumer base is expected to grow rapidly, with most purchases occurring in Indonesia’s cities, mainly in Jakarta. Car sales grew by six percent by the end of 2018 – at just over 1.3 million units, with 346,000 exported to markets such as the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Vietnam".

I don't wish to sound disrespectful but this is an English language forum. Could I take the liberty of recommending this book which may be of help to you in improving your English language skills.

  12. This contract could easily end in tears just like Hopewell.

Difficult to understand how CP Group would sign up to a contract where the SRT announced last year what the fare prices would be. Presumably the CP Group are stuck with this public announcement even though it might impact on their income and profitability and return on investment.

First things first in the minds of SRT incompetents....... No. 1 priority........"let's set the ticket price".

Miraculously the SRT calculated HS fare prices per person of less than 330 baht for the longest leg.

    a. Without any having partner or contract

    b. Without any money (100 billion baht debt) or knowing the bidding price

    c. Without knowing the establishment/purchase costs of

          1. HS Trains

          2. HS Rail tracks

          3. HS Rail stations

          4. HS Infrastructure

    d. Without having any knowledge of running costs of HS trains in Thailand

    e. Without having any idea of how many potential passengers there might be

    f. Without having acquired all the land for the track (still haven't)

The SRT is the ground people transportation version of Thai Airways in almost every conceivable management way. They are like twins competing to see which one can lose the most money. The CP Group will need a miracle on their side.
