phone scam on BIL succeeds - any advise?
Eloquent pilgrim replied to SunnyinBangrak's topic in General Topics
I accept that there are some good scammers operating, but this is not an example of one; nobody that has the nous and acumen required to accumulate more than 400k Baht in their account, would give it away on a phone call instruction. It is an absolute fortune to what the OP is now claiming are a poor rural, uneducated family. How did he make the transfer while talking on the phone ? Using a laptop to access his account ? You’ve been here long enough to know the security palaver involved in making such a large transfer in Thailand. There is only one scammer here, and it is the brother-in-law, who is either trying to scam his own bank with an accomplice, or extract a large sympathy payment from the OP. -
phone scam on BIL succeeds - any advise?
Eloquent pilgrim replied to SunnyinBangrak's topic in General Topics
Sad story, but why was he willing to transfer that amount just on a phone call request ?? Who in their right mind would transfer 400k into an unknown account on a phone call request, it doesn’t sound right somehow. I have a transaction limit of 100k on my BBL account; if I want to pay for something that is more than that, I go to the bank with bank book and passport and make a transfer request or get a cashier cheque. The cynic in me thinks that maybe the BIL is trying to scam his bank -
Passport maybe missing: how long should I wait?
Eloquent pilgrim replied to JackGats's topic in Pattaya
But your passport is not actually missing is it ? I hope you don’t go into this sort of panic mode every time you f@rt …. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Yet another absurd comment. The credibility of his brother’s terrible situation is not being questioned, as you well know. I have not seen one single comment on here doubting the poor man’s medical condition. What is being questioned is whether or not he actually had 80k in cash on his person; and you are proposing the ludicrous idea that confirmation of the cost of the operation somehow establishes that he was carrying 80k in cash … illogical contrarian nonsense.

Very sad for the lad and very distressing for his family. However, once again we see insurance being invalidated by not wearing a crash helmet on a motorcycle / scooter. Insurance company painted as the villains once again, but everyone knows about this by now, this is no longer a small print get out clause.

What a strange story; he had just been to visit his brother in the hospital, so why didn’t he deposit the money with the hospital cashier.

Donald Trump says he expects to be arrested on Tuesday
Eloquent pilgrim replied to Social Media's topic in World News
“I’ve seen him naked; there’s no way he could be any scarier with his clothes on” ???? Great line from Stormy Daniels when asked about the prospect of facing Donald Trump in court Fake blonde with big hooters, pays hush money to fake blonde with big hooters …. only in America -
I don’t think Urolift is available yet in Thailand. You can get the TURPS procedure, or the one that seems more popular now is the Rezum procedure. Rezum is a water vapour thermal therapy and is consequently less invasive and produces good results with lower rates of bleeding. However, you need your prostate to be below 80cc in volume for this procedure to be approved.

Whilst I understand your cynicism, two young kids have been snubbed out in the springtime of their lives; their families and friends will be overwrought with grief, and irrespective of culpability, and the frequency of such events, I feel empathy towards all concerned. That notwithstanding, I realise that compassion and empathy will always be a matter between the individual and their conscience …. cheers

Sanctimonious for suggesting using your mirror before turning right, rather than assuming that your flashing indicator makes you bulletproof. Sanctimonious for suggesting the use of a defensive driving technique that should be mandatory; what a bizarre comment. None of us can guarantee our safety on the roads in Thailand, or anywhere else for that matter, but one can certainly minimise the risks with certain driving habits.
