Thai females average weight now 63kg!!!!
Eloquent pilgrim replied to sidjameson's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
You may well have high sugar tolerance yourself, but to dismiss high sugar intake as a myth is very irresponsible; the effects apart from the obvious one of weight gain, include higher blood pressure, inflammation, diabetes and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Ironically, you dismiss added sugar intake as a myth, and then list as the main issue, fatty junk food, pastries, chocolate and ice cream, all of which contain very high levels of added sugar ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -

Agree, although in Thailand the biggest problem is sugar; they put it in everything, even bread. Sugar is a bigger problem than red meat, fat, salt or carbohydrates -
Thai baht soars as voters back pro-democracy parties
Eloquent pilgrim replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Ridiculous headline. Soars ? sure, it has soared like an Emu. As I write it is 42.30 against the UK pound; it has been between 42.10 and 42.80 for several weeks -
Move Forward Scores Surprise Victory; Pita To Become PM
Eloquent pilgrim replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Good comment, agree with just about everything you say, especially that Move Forward couldn’t have hoped for such a significant swing towards them. It’s better for Thailand than anyone could have hoped for. My wife doesn’t drink, but she’s just asked me to take one of my precious bottles of champagne out of the fridge, and she’s got Martha & The Vandellas on loop. Regarding the number of votes for Prayut, remember what Stalin said: "It's not the people who vote that count, it's the people who count the votes" -
Move Forward Scores Surprise Victory; Pita To Become PM

If, and it’s a big if, the Military don’t intervene, a coalition government between Move Forward and Pheu Thai, with Pita as Prime Minister, would be the best thing to happen to Thailand since Grab started delivering somtum ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -
Move Forward party leader’s political future uncertain

Yes indeed, my wife tells me that the shares were owned by his father and are in a trust; but she said regardless of that, the rule is that any candidate cannot own more than 5% of a media company, and she tells me that these shares equate to less than 1% …. but they are doing everything they can to try and derail him, because his popularity is burgeoning faster than the speed of light.- 55 replies

Local expat needs help after motorbike incident
Eloquent pilgrim replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Well if Richard has lived here for many years he should have adequate motorcycle insurance, and / or provisions for unexpected expenses such as this. He also said in his first report that a car pulled out in front of him causing the crash; this is not what most people understand to be a hit and run incident. I hope it ends well for him. -

Putting aside the fact that he appears to have had inadequate insurance, there are conflicting reports. In an earlier report he says that a car pulled out in front of him causing the crash, whereas in a later report he just claims to be the victim of a hit and run incident. I guess the latter version portrays him as completely blameless, and is more likely to encourage donations. Shame that there do not appear to be any witnesses. -

Local expat needs help after motorbike incident

I assume you’re talking about Health insurance, which certainly is expensive, especially if you are over 60, and may not cover a motorcycle accident anyway. However, I have owned 3 new Vespa 150cc scooters in my time here, and have always taken out comprehensive insurance with medical accident cover. This has cost me about 8,000 Baht per annum, so not expensive at all. I sold my latest Vespa six months ago, figuring that after 8 years of accident-free riding, I might be approaching the limitations of my luck. Car only from now on, with fully comprehensive insurance. -

I have now also looked at the full story from phuket GO and this is his quote from there. I still can’t find the quote you are referencing “4 operations later the the insurance money has run out and there are a further 2 options required, one of which will be tomorrow. I am asking for any monetary help that can be given through the money funding link below” -

I agree that I don’t know much about his situation. That is because although he has written the post himself, he has proffered very little information, other than that he wants people to give him money. I don’t know how old he is, if he lives here permanently or for just a few months each year. I don’t know if he owns a house or a condo, or a car here, because he has not disclosed much at all apart from the fact that he wants monetary donations. People need to take responsibility for themselves, especially if you are living in a foreign country. You need to have sufficient insurance if you drive or ride in Thailand, or sufficient personal funds as a safeguard. You cannot just live here hand to mouth as a foreigner, and then expect everyone else to bail you out if you have unexpected expenses that you have not made provisions for. -

Feel sorry for the guy, but if he is living here, and probably owning the motorcycle, rather than here on holiday on a rental bike, he should have proper insurance. Insufficient detail about what insurance he has, and what costs have been incurred at the hospital. Leg broken in 4 places is nasty, but not life threatening; seems he wants to go straight to donation status, without putting his hand in his own pocket …. good luck with that buddy, because most people on here have had their sympathy folder emptied by countless similar stories.- 212 replies

Those supporting the present status quo are really worried about this man. My wife says that she, and all her friends will be voting for him. She says he is the only candidate with policies to help the poor and give access to education for all kids; he is also a strong supporter of Ukraine. My wife says that most Thai people under 50 think he’s the best thing since somtum.

He’s 24 years old for heaven's sake; if he can’t plan a holiday on his own by now, he better stay at home and read some Jack Kerouac books.
