  1. I read years ago that Bangkok is not on the established tour route for musicians. Most (not all maybe) of the people who come are has-beens.
  2. I suppose copying other countries on opening times without asking their governments about accompanying negatives is... not a great idea.
  3. Did a safari in Kenya. The Masai were so friendly, the countryside really beautiful. I still have a couple of Fela albums from uni here in Thailand. I don't fancy living in the countryside there having seen what lions do to their prey.
  4. My feeling has been that Thais look up to westerners and are shocked that they complain just like Thais. However, complain with a smile and they're fine.
  5. So many contradicting legal opinions. Perhaps we should wait for the court case?
  6. Thank god you don't work in industry; you don't understand that when there is a war the backlog contains countries not at war and the countries like Ukraine and Israel get prioritized. There won't be a backlog for Israel as there has not been for the Ukraine.. Grow up for god's sake. https://warontherocks.com/2023/01/the-real-reasons-for-taiwans-arms-backlog-and-how-to-help-fill-it/
  7. So much for there being a backlog. In 1999, the US government signed a Memorandum of Understanding through which it committed to providing Israel with at least US$2.67 billion in military aid annually, for the following ten years; in 2009, the annual amount was raised to US$3 billion; and in 2019, the amount was raised again, now standing at a minimum of US$3.8 billion that the US is committed to providing Israel each year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel–United_States_relations#:~:text=In 1999%2C the US government, now standing at a minimum
  8. It's just lip service. "Stupid farangs always believe smart Thai governments."
  9. I use an app called AmiGo. It lets me know when there are cameras ahead. Obviously, it needs to be updated now and then but it pretty good at making me slow down.
  10. Death isn't something to fear. My grandfather died peacefully in his sleep. It was his passengers who screamed.
  11. Talismans only work when you are a true Buddhist. His captors are therefore not true Buddhists. 🤪
  12. It might be an idea to eliminate retirement ages, as opposed to raising the retirement age. There are people like me I am sure who enjoy working and carry on for the fun of it.
  13. Went to Lopburi once. Vowed never to return due to monkeys trying to snatch everything. Same for Khao Takiab in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Waited while some friends took an elephant ride and didn't notice animal cruelty first-hand, but domesticating wild animals is clearly not a good idea (I am not counting dogs and cats etc., as that ship has sailed) The problem is, Thailand is so dependent on tourism for GDP that the uneducated majority are willing to use elephants as an attraction without really being aware of, or caring about, the problems they cause. Money is king.
  14. Bit like saying, why didn't the Europeans leave America to the native people.
  15. Exactly what they did saying it was the promised land, given to them by their invisible friend in the sky. Palestine was a British protectorate at the time and was dead against giving it to Jews as their Homeland. The Jews there at the time did nothing. David ben Gurion was Polish.
  16. Duh, because prior to 1946 there was just one state that belonged to Palestine. What would one state be called? Greater Israel?
  17. Palestinians seem to think the region belongs to them. Bloody cheek. After thousands of years of ownership why can't they accept that European Jews now own their land? A two state solution means they have to accept their land became someone else's in 1946.
  18. There's a logical explanation, which makes sense if you understand Thai logic. I did a small job for the owner of one of the largest road contractors in Thailand. He explained that if they were to follow the specifications the government gave for building roads they would make a road that would last 10 years before requiring maintenance. As he explained it, that's 10 years without revenue. So they make the roads with below contract quality so that they require maintenance every 6 months and the revenue stream is continuous. Apparently, the government doesn't question it.
  19. Perhaps instead of looking at Thaksin the anti corruption agency could check the assets of the corrections officer who keeps signing off on the extended bed rest. Being unusually rich is still an issue worth examining.
