From Fame to Infamy: ‘Johnny the Enforcer’ Faces Land Fraud Heat
Seems to be in trend for Thai policemen to have gangster-like monickers. Johnny the Enforcer, Joe Ferrari, Big Joke, etc.

Thai Schools Struggle to Reopen Amid Border Tensions
Kids not having a laptop and Wi-Fi access is too typical of this country. Submarines? Yes. But no education equipment.

Korat Governor Fires 18 Local Officials Over Drug Links
It seems common in Thailand not to arrest drug traffickers if they are rich or work for the government. One even became a member of parliament after serving his term.

25 Lies - How is Starmer still in office
I think it may be because Starmer is a "hansum man" compared to compared to Boris (and Thatcher come to think of it).

Strong Baht and Safety Fears Weigh on Thai Tourism
Such a pity that the strengthening Thai Baht is putting and end to the tourist uplift at a time when tourists are being welcomed here whoever they are. Sad. No more Chinese peeing in temples, pushing and shoving to get on busses. No more Indians having their huge gold chains stolen by ladyboys. No more Brits falling over drunk. Fewer Swedes kicking doctors... Now, wait a goldarned minute...

Man Charged With Felony for Throwing Sandwich at D.C. Police
Frankly, the incident reminds me of a story told by Woody Allen: Years ago, my mother gave me a bullet...a bullet, and I put it in my breast pocket. Two years after that, I was walking down the street, when a berserk evangelist heaved a Gideon bible out a hotel room window, hitting me in the chest. Bible would have gone through my heart if it wasn't for the bullet

Man Charged With Felony for Throwing Sandwich at D.C. Police
Isn't it protected by the Constitution that sandwiches are a right?

UK grooming Gangs.
While the blame for grooming gangs is like a hot potato, we should remember that it all started in the 1980s (Margaret Thatcher's period of Tory rule) and continued until from 2010 to mid-2024 under various Tory governments without much being done. Now, people seem to think Starmer is responsible for not doing much, which is true to an extent, but it does seem to be that neither party has done much at all.

U.S. alcohol consumption hits near-100 year low
Alcohol maybe down but only because it is being replaced by drugs like Fentanyl. America is a land of druggies and poor diet, quality of life, lowers the life expectancy.

Economic Stimulus: Thailand's Fourth Rate Cut
It doesn't appear that lowering interest rates has helped the economy. I guess no one is interested in taking bank loans. Banks are desperate but don't want to lower their margins by offering better interest for savers. I had a chat with my bank manager and she asked why I kept withdrawing my salary (it was a friendly conversation), so I told her that the Government Savings Bank was safer as it guaranteed 100% of my money. Crickets. At my age, I want safety, which Thai banks don't offer.

12 deaths happen each year at the Grand Canyon while taking selfies. This is why the Darwin Awards was set up. Gets them out of the gene pool.

Japanese Man Attacked in Bangkok for Filming Smokers
I don't understand why they would attack him. Simply telling him to stop, due to privacy laws in Thailand, or they would sue should have been tried first.

Foreign Cyclist's Reckless Manoeuvre Sparks Outrage in Phuket
I thought all vehicles are supposed to move to the righthand lane when turning right. But he didn't use his right arm to signal what he intended. Even on a motorbike, I was pulled over for moving into the righthand lane once when wishing to turn right. I really did not know what to say to the policeman.

‘Uncle Pol’ Convicted of Murder, Sentence Raised to 26 Years
Wasn't this the premise of the Sherlock Holmes story "Silver Blaze" and "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" by Mark Haddon? The Thai police are well-read I must admit.

Why manufacturing won't return to the U.S. - former CEO Motorola
One aspect is attracting and retaining a quality workforce was listed as a top business challenge facing US manufacturers, as the article states. But how to get quality workers who have never worked in a phone factory when they were all sent to Asia many years ago? It takes years to build that experience. If you don't already have an experienced workforce then you have to train them from scratch and they won't stay unless it pays better than working in a store.
