A hell of a timing to go 'upmarket'. Is that in preparation to an announcement that there are fewer tourists because 'Thailand became an upscale destination'?
Dual pricing, especially 5x or 10x the price of a local tells me that I'm not wanted in this place, so I don't bother. If it were, say, 40 baht for tourists and 20 baht for locals, I wouldn't mind, but 10x is clearly a ripp-off.
Always a good idea to visit the dependencies from time to time. Perhaps talk the government into taking some loans, with the use of Satthahip for the Chinese navy as a guarantee...
The kids are supposed to pay only 20 baht or so for their school lunch. With rising food costs, I can imagine that sellers cut costs and just sell "dirt" (or the lowest quality of food they can get) to the them...
I once saw the half&half baby chicken & egg variety eaten by people right next to me. My appetite was gone... I'm sure there is also half duck & egg. Is baby mouse perhaps a delicacy in parts of the Northeast? I wouldn't bet against it.
Actually, at the current exchange rate it is comparable to $2.85 in the U.S.
Wonder, if inflation ever declines to 2-3% and the Ukraine war is over, such price increases will, partly, be reversed, but I guess not...
