  1. No one really does... They are as unpopular as visitors in Oz and NZ, as they are in Hong Kong. (Probably in more places so, but for the places I named I know it as a fact.)
  2. I'm more worried about the numbskulls from Pheu Thai... Apart from this, higher living costs, etc., I am not worried for the next ten years. Also, there are alternatives. I'm not 'married' to Thailand, after all, and (location) change is good.
  3. Who cares? Let them have the stinky stuff. I hardly ever eat durian, and it's one of only a few fruit I dislike.
  4. It certainly looks like the 'heydays' of double-digit growth are over in China, and with 20% of young adults unemployed, fat chance that this demographic will make it to Thailand in large numbers anytime soon...
  5. Yes, but even the Chinese are usually the 'Chin', often called "stingy"... But I agree that the Chinese, overall, enjoy a favoured and often privileged position in Thailand, unlike, for example, the "poor" (or even "dirty") people from neighbouring countries (Laos, Cambodia). And even some well-educated Thais like to call people from Myanmar "dangerous" or "thieves"...
  6. Seriously? So, Brits are no foreigners in the U.S., and Indians no foreigners in China?
  7. Because China is the 'big brother'?
  8. I agree. Forward-looking economic policies, a stable political system, an efficient bureau- cracy and simplification of bureaucratic procedures, a minimum of corruption, a maximum of stability and rule of law, low import taxes and -restrictions, a developed and modern infrastructure, an abundance of qualified labour possessing foreign language skills, etc., are also important... ???????????????????????? Damn, Thailand is screwed...
  9. Did they coordinate such, kinda negative, news with the TAT? Looking forward to a couple of TAT announcements of record tourist numbers the next few days, to counter such less than optimistic ATTA news...
  10. Yes, but solving it "last minute", or even after could have serious consequences for financial markets, people's pension funds, etc.
  11. What do people expect? 1. Police officers involved, so the incident being downplayed, and the victim pressured into, for her unfavourable decisions, was to be expected. 2. Police officers drunk... (see above) 3. Her employer has, most probably, "more face" and a higher standing in society... (see above) 4. The perpetrator's buddies are cops... (see above) 5. Her employer has, most probably, more money than the victim, and can use it to his advantage here... TiT, where they party like it's 1566...
  12. Sewage and poo in Pattaya's sea, or an oil slick on Jomtien's beach; the choice is yours, traveller... Happy holidays!
  13. So, not a male person, or female person... Not a child person either. But a pickpocket person a.k.a. thief person...
  14. You gotta love the new undercover uniform the guy on the right is wearing...
  15. Do you really think there anything wrong with what he wrote?!? It was a sarcastic remark. And, yes, of course he was spot on.
  16. 10 million?? Wow, thanks for reminding me! It has been almost 48 hours since I last read about '10 million tourists in Thailand'... I almost forgot about this immensely important world-changing news item. Wouldn't it be possible to announce it every day?
  17. And the last word isn't out yet, whether it wasn't suicide...* (*Sarcastic remark)
  18. Yeah, 'Tink To Mut' is my middle name...
  19. That people were served 'before' you might have been due to the fact that, perhaps, they had a number for different services, e.g. deposits/withdrawals, rather than 'opening bank accounts'. Most banks have a button 'English' on their ticket machines. That being said, TTB (formerly TMB) has never been a very foreigner-friendly bank. I remember having a request to open a bank account at TMB Phuket declined 25 years ago when most other banks were willing to open accounts for tourists.
  20. I don't even know what this party is about... Can I win a free blow ..., or something? Are the bar fines waved on that day? What kind of party?
  21. Yes, and what is 'wrong' with F-16s anyway? If they are good enough for the USAF to be used until 2040 or so, why not for Thailand? Perhaps, with the money saved from the difference in price they could buy some more submarines...
