10 million?? Wow, thanks for reminding me! It has been almost 48 hours since I last read about '10 million tourists in Thailand'... I almost forgot about this immensely important world-changing news item. Wouldn't it be possible to announce it every day?

That people were served 'before' you might have been due to the fact that, perhaps, they had a number for different services, e.g. deposits/withdrawals, rather than 'opening bank accounts'. Most banks have a button 'English' on their ticket machines. That being said, TTB (formerly TMB) has never been a very foreigner-friendly bank. I remember having a request to open a bank account at TMB Phuket declined 25 years ago when most other banks were willing to open accounts for tourists.

Last year the Malaysian ringgit bought about 8 baht, and earlier this year about 7.75 to 7.80 baht. Do they really blame the lower tourist numbers on a 2% currency fluctuation since then? I mean, if tourists want to spend 5,000 or 10,000 baht on a short trip to Thailand, do 100 or 200 baht more make such a difference? If so, they better not introduce the planned arrival fee of 150 baht (for overland arrivals).

Good luck ever getting any refund from AirAsia... AirAsia is notoriously known for random flight cancellations, making it, at the same time, impossible to claim a refund. I even went to their sales office in KL, but to no avail...

Plus, in such a 'worst-case scenario', Putin would have Xi Jinping as a backup war ally, with his large army and nuclear arsenal (to which the Soviet Union wouldn't have had access to). Not to mention that Brezhnev and his predecessors/successors were part of the Politburo, while Putin has no-one to stop him, should he turn berserk or suicidal.
