There are no "pretties" in the Thai sense in other countries as, for example, in BE pretties: (1) has a negative, mainly derogatory connotation for some women, or (2) it refers to things.

To comment on this, if I had to pay this levy every time I left the country, I'd spend even more abroad on things that are cheaper there than in Thailand, just to compensate for this extra tax, meaning 1,000 baht more for Thailand's revenue department, but thousands less spent in Thailand, but instead abroad.

Agreed. Gold's price rose recently due to banking industry troubles and uncertainty about economic growth... Depends for how long one wants to invest; 10, 20, or 30 years? If so, maybe a good investment, but who knows what it will be worth in, say, 20 years...

Not to me, they don't. Usually yes, but some payments at supermarkets do not result in a SMS to me, particularly at weekends.
