  1. Yes, check's out. Nowadays you can get a thousand smiles from 100,000 Thais...
  2. Boo-hoo... We want many tourists, preferably 40 billion of them, and big money. But on second thought, we actually don't want too many pesky tourists... Not to mention that most Thai 'residents' on Phuket('s west coast) are not locals, but come from other parts of Thailand, living on-and-off on Phuket.
  3. Gotcha... Didn't we read only a few weeks ago that 'unemployment is below 1 percent'? Now it's suddenly at 1.05% again?? Proof of how fake those numbers are... https://www.thailand-business-news.com/economics/97764-thailands-unemployment-rate-drops-below-1
  4. I guess, Stickman is more like mid-fifties...
  5. No-one here has a crystal ball, and things may or may not change under a new government. That being said, over the years, in practice, guidelines have been as follows: having a pre-arranged visa is better than relying on VFEs (30 days). Extending either, a visa, or a VFE in Thailand (by 30 days) is no problem. Overstays should under any circumstances be avoided. Covid extensions are, reportedly, frowned upon by IOs. "Too many entries", esp. via VFEs as well, as is "staying too long" (with the "wrong" visas) in Thailand. - IOs have a lot of discretion compared to other countries. (Things may depend on the individual IO, latest 'instructions from above', how busy the IO is, etc., etc.) Both Bangkok airports have given repeat tourists a hard time (interviews, some denials) over the past five years or so. Other airports might be 'friendlier' in this regard. Theoretically, you should not have a problem. There is, however, a chance that the IO who is checking your details may ask you a couple of questions.
  6. And then get arrested and charged for defamation...
  7. I once "overstayed" by '1 day', i.e. I went through immigration well before midnight, but my flight wouldn't depart until about 0:30... Got a stamp 'Overstay' into the passport too...
  8. Wouldn't she need a "visa" (incl. VFE) to enter Thailand with a foreign passport? If so, for a longer stay, entering with the Thai passport would make sense.
  9. Some people have savings, or are digital nomads. Most probably only a tiny minority turn to crime or prosti******. But this is, of course, no reason to overstay and just 'ignore' immigration laws.
  10. Well, that Thais prefer "guests" that stay for a very short time only (guess why they love the Chinese!), while overpaying for anything and everything is nothing new. If only they could convince prospective foreign tourists to only send the money (they planned to spend while in Thailand), but stay away... Is there even a word in Thai for 'hospitality'? Fortunately, there are alternatives to Thailand. Sun, beaches, and also nightlife can be had in other places too. One just needs to remind oneself every day: "I am a tourist, permitted to stay here for a limited time. I don't (actually) live here..."
  11. Okay, on second look, you might be right. Maybe the Nike 'inventor' was inspired by the painting...
  12. Yes, but did you see one on the inside of the shoe on the left? (There is something, but no "tick" like on the inside of the shoe on the right...) Faulty production by Nike? Maybe the time-traveller bought them in the early 90s in China...
  13. I don't think so; this has nothing to do with the airport tax, raised by airports around the world to maintain, well, airports, but an extra tax proposed by the Revenue Department (because they can) of 1,000 baht, officially to 'keep citizens and residents spending too much money overseas', i.e. creating extra revenue for Thailand's incorruptible government, while keeping the money Thais and residents (hello, reentry-permit holders) would spend abroad in the country. Mind you, once Thailand's internationsl airports need more money, say in 1-2 years, the 700-baht airport tax could very well be raised too...
  14. Proof that people get dumber and dumber, and that our educational systems are failing in educating today's kids... In aforementioned painting, if they were Nike shoes, why is the "tick" logo only on the inside of 1 shoe? Just checked pics of some other paintings and statues mentioned in time-traveller articles... A girl in a 1860s painting 'holding an iPhone', which is clearly (pssst, Generation Z, you may not know such a thing), a BOOK, perhaps a bible. And the ancient Greek woman's 'laptop' could be anything of that shape, perhaps holding a reflective surface or "mirror". (I suspect something similar for "Mr. Pynchon and the Settling of Springfield" at the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum, even though, on first site, it looks a bit like an iPhone.
  15. Only because you're not well informed doesn't mean it isn't so... https://www.thaipbsworld.com/a-guide-to-thailands-proposed-departure-tax/
  16. This is all boll****. Even if they were not to agree on raising the debt ceiling within the next two weeks or so, the government would still have means to keep on spending, not ideal, but possible. And the "X-date of 1st June" is not the exact day when 'the money runs out' either...
  17. That's a whopping 41,288 baht and 27 satang... Get out the c̶h̶a̶m̶p̶a̶g̶n̶e̶, ahem water... ????
  18. Doesn't really make sense. 'Price hike due to decrease in output', but 'promise of higher profits'... Seems, that the 'decrease in output' was only small (if any), while the farmers just jumped on the bandwagon of 50-percent price-rises for food because they can...
  19. Wonder, how they could even do this kind of job, unless they were fluent in Thai.
  20. Don't tell me; they had planned to extend their visas with the money from the 'gold jewelry' insurance, but the money never came, so they exchanged expensive Pattaya for the much cheaper Pattalung, where they lived happy ever after (till now), working as ice-cream sellers...
