You can obtain a non O retirement inside Thailand having entered visa exempt or with tourist visa. You can also obtain non O at some Thai consulates/embassies. Yes you will need to start over however one option would be to enter visa exempt and with funds already in bank apply for non O and subsequent 12 month extension. As for using income method for the first extension think you will find that you need to use money in bank method. I assume your non O is based on retirement.

Longstay application troubles

Your over 50. You can enter with a tourist visa and obtain non O based on retirement. You will require a Thai bank account and have 800k in bank on day of application. You would then obtain a 12 month extension. Financials required. If all that is not possible then use an agent. -
Non O Retirement from UK

It's an understandable concern, however these are covid times. Previous stay is not typical. I would be amazed if you were refused entry with a visa. -

Coming back to Thailand with no visa
DrJack54 replied to problemfarang's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Airline staff wouldn't know what a work permit is. It's hit and miss with airlines. Some insist on onward flight. One option is to book one on the spot if required. Obviously would need internet for booking and payment. -

The onward flight is for the airline at departure not Thai immigration on arrival. -

You won't have an issue entering with a visa. You could obtain the non O in UK or enter with a tourist visa and obtain non O in Thailand. Do you have a Thai bank account in your name only? -

Personally I would obtain tourist visa. -

OP, how long do you plan to stay in Thailand. If it's a couple of years then Non O-A is an option. If plan to to stay in Thailand ongoing you are better off with a non O retirement. -
Ban Laem "Border Bounce"
DrJack54 replied to Tod Daniels's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
BTW thanks for report. Assist many. In my days of chasing time in Thailand, living in Bangkok I actually enjoyed trips to Saigon. Wasn't ridiculously more expensive that border runs. The benefit of border run via land is less stress to reenter Thailand. -
Did you even consider say appointment 10.30am allowing time to attend bank. CW can be fussy with update on day of application and also showing activity in bank book day of application. BTW take along hard copy of confirmation email. Not sure of current policy however previously the print out was required. Screenshot not cut it. Any photocopies etc can be obtained lower level with banks at print stall.
