Thailand's 'draconian' alcohol laws in the spotlight
DrJack54 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
From Google.... "Traveller" Noun: Simiar to Road Rocket. An Alcoholic beverage consumed in route to an event or place where other alcoholic beverages will be consumed" Everyone I know in Vic at very least would know what a "traveller" is. Some folk use "roadie". In your 58yrs in Oz what do you call it. -

Another one we use in Australia is "Roadie"....as stated my crowd say "traveller". From Google it seems USA use the slang "road soda" (I hadn't heard that); Actually generally Oz has strict driving laws re alcohol. Most stops can involve breath test. Australians laugh about the "sobriety field test' that some USA states do. What's that about? -
Can Quarantine be Reduced?

How do you work out "natural thing to do" Why not changes apply to any arrivals on and post October 1. In otherwise not retrospective. -
Agree ....for quite some time. I have been posting few pics of things in Bangkok that I would perhaps take visiting friends to. Obvious example is JayJay market on a Sunday. It's now a ghost town. One that makes me sad is Ratchada Night Train Market. Live just nearby. An institution in Bangkok with it's stalls, food, and bars with live music. See stock pic below pre covid. It has been closed and now bulldozed. Why even talk about tourism.

Ist jab: AZ. Best 2nd jab choice: AZ or Pfizer?
DrJack54 replied to Cutty Shark's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
I'm on your page. By end of October myself and gf will have had both shots. (both of us AZ). Generally spend Nov-Jan on Samed. That means drive to Rayong. Would feel more confident if had some sort of proof of full vaccination status for any checks such as entry to island etc. Hopefully will become more clear. -

Towards end of last year when bars were open, I stayed Pattaya Soi 8 for fireworks festival. Visited Poppies few nights bar corner Soi 7 beach road. EMPTY. I know bars and Thailand. No doubt you do also. Clearly not bars however. -

Nice smoke screen. I will pick one random city. Udon Thani. Has bar area called Day Night. Those bars were dead prior to covid. There was separate set of bars known as Nutty Park. Almost finished/closed pre covid. The bars in Day Night have few regulars each. I like Zan Zee bar. Often only 3-4 people there. This was pre covid. Seems to me that you have very little idea of farang bars in Thailand. -
You don't need to carry old passport if indeed you have immigration do the notation on new pp relating to original visa (as I outlined previously) Indeed if you do nothing regarding new pp, then yes you can travel including internationally and just carry both passports. Would also be required at banks etc. Personally I did that for over 6 months and was exit Thailand every 2 weeks. No issue.

Keep in mind the vast majority of the population is Thai. They (generally) don't drink in bars. ( not the farang type bars in this thread) If we went to place like Bang Saen or Koh Samet etc the Thai group of friends drink out of back of the pickups and/or on the beach in groups. Good on em. Open bars tomorrow and see how well Soi 4 Bangkok and Soi 7-8 Pattaya (to name a couple) will be doing trade wise. Ghost town stuff. -

In between this alcohol/bar ban and the previous ban right back in April 2020, bars were opened. Bangkok, Pattaya etc. Did you visit bars at that time? I did. Guess what... embarrassing empty. The picture you paint is the times pre covid and all the tourists in full flight in bars. Some over the top. News flash....there is hardly any tourists in Thailand. It's expats such as myself. Many are over the bar scene. Been there done that so to speak. More go to a bar for a catch up thing for those that live here ongoing. Reading your post to me sounds like you have never been to a bar in covid times. -

Thinking you don't go to bars much. "Highest risk places"?....say what! Thinking that you don't go to shopping malls, big C supermarkets, 7/11,s You name it. Oh I forgot...it's because bars serve alcohol. Didn't think of that. -

Thanks. Downloaded that. First thing is to create account. Requires on that an ID # which is Thai info. On my paperwork from day of first jab there is no number apart from HN (whatever that is and it's only 7 digits and starts with a letter....H©©©©©©© -

First time I ever heard a new term for me was an American guy and we were about to drive into town. He asked if I wanted a "Road Coke". (Bottle of booze for the trip). In Oz we call that a "Traveller" -

Open air bars should be open. Very few patrons even if they are allowed to open. The music can't really happen until the curfew is changed. First step at least allow limited hours as first step back to new normal.- 233 replies

90 day reporting
DrJack54 replied to Geordieabroad's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes they changed it from 7 days prior up to due date. Relatively recent. As for your idea of abolishing 90 day report, I don't think you would find an expat to disagree with that. -
You apply for a 12 month extension prior to 24 Sept 2022. Best to apply few weeks prior to 24 Sept. On the day you apply you will need to have the 800k in bank a/c for 2 months. If you need to exit Thailand and reenter you will need to purchase a reentry permit. You can do that at immigration or the airport. Single reentry is 1000b and multiple 3800. When your applying for your extension you will need to obtain 40/400k health insurance. If your 12 month policy start date of insurance is on day you apply you will obtain 12 month permit stamp from that date. You can read threads about that.
