  1. Many thanks ubonjoe.

Actually I don't know the difference between VOA and 30 day visa exempt entry?

If I just arrive at BKK airport with no visa. Just my passport what do I get? What do I need to do to get the 30 days as opposed to the 15 days?

As an aside I assume 15 days cannot be extended?

So with a visa exempt entry I can stay for 60 days after 1 extension at jomtien immigration for 1,900 baht.

    Thanks

  2. If I just arrive at BKK airport with no visa I understand I get an automatic entry (VOE) to Thailand for 30 days?

Without doing any border runs, how long can I extend this for at Jomtien immigration? And cost?

What rules apply that may limit repeating this VOE and extension each year?

If I did 1 border run what additional time in country would that give, plus any related extension?

    Many thanks

  3. My father died earlier this year in chuangmai. He did not make a Will and he died 1 week before my already booked flight to visit him where we were going to do a joint bank account.

So, although the death aspect entailed a steep learning curve in procedure and burocracy, I will address only the lack of a will issue.

My father only had a bank account - no property, car etc

I therefore needed to employ a lawyer and had to get together paperwork from UK and a consent form for mother and brother which then was notorised. This was obviously timeu consuming and required being in UK. However on return with all documents I attended court with my lawyer and it only lasted 15 minutes. Then waited 30 days in case any objections etc and my lawyer arranged funds transfer into my bank account now all completed.

    My point is.....

The cost of a Will and probate sounds like it's approx 40k in total. My lawyer fee was 40k.

Monies if otherwise put in joint account cause a problem if using 800k for immigration as a joint account needs 1.6m balance or lose 800k as cannot have immigration 800k in joint account.

A Will is best if you have a trustworthy lawyer and assets in thailand but really it's not so bad just getting the paperwork and going to court and the joint account option can't really be certain when funds frozen on death , not legal route and probably going to exclude immigration money.

I found my father's preferred option of joint account- though he died before we could achieve this. Would still have meant going to court for the immigration money or losing it and going to court without any Will was only a bit more troublesome on the paperwork angle that's required and similar cost to doing a Will and probate. Had we done joint account I would have still had to get a lawyer to get immigration 800k in my circumstances.

  4. So if pension providers located in UK. Contact them and do an Expression of wish form. I.e. on your death instructions on who gets spouse pension with contact details/copy Thai ID card. Inform executor. Foreign based pensions would then have information and instruction upon your death for executor to inform them and pension trustees to implement

    Taassparot

    Many thanks.

  6. Many thanks to all

    Soi Made Thailand?

Assuming that's pattaya, where is soi Made? Don't know it. Thanks.

Sounds like best bet is the one in Mikes. Anyone know if s trip to BkK would be beneficial and where?

I don't really feel a market sounds like I will get a genuine appraisal or offer. Much prefer a legitimate well known and recognised vendor, if there is such a thing?

  7. I have inherited a few Thai Amulets and have an idea that one or two of them may have some notable value.

Is there anywhere in or around Pattaya (if not, in Bangkok) where I could get a genuine valuation from a reputable expert/trader?

    Thanks

  8. Thanks ubonjoe.

So the answer is I can get my passport renewed in UK and when in Thailand via the link you supplied "transferring your Thai visa for replacement passports" click in the 'web form' link and request 'visa transfer letter' to be sent to me by post and supply my Thai address.

got there and happy with that. Thanks to all

  9. Perhaps if I get it done in UK I could ask British embassy in bkk to issue a cover letter.

Overall though others must surely have had their new passport issued in home country/UK and then returned to Thailand with old and new passports to get retirement stamp transferred into new passport. This can't be the first time someone has renewed passport on a visit to their home country before returning! What did they do to transfer stamp in Thailand?

  10. Yes, because I am in UK now and its easier and straight forward to renew here and I prefer to get it done in UK.

I wonder what the Thai Immigration office would state I need in order to transfer stamps to new passport done in uk?

If its made difficult/impossible once I arrive I don't mind staying for 30 days sending my money back to UK and finishing with Thailand. It's expensive with exch rate and too many Immigration hoops like tm30 etc. I'm getting fed up of all the work when I only come for a few months a year. There comes a point when all the hassle just mounts up and with the costs tips the balance. I may reappraise.

  11. I need to renew my UK passport in UK and then transfer my retirement visa and re-entry permit from old passport into new passport, when I return to Thailand.

I want to renew UK passport in UK using online service.

What is the name of the letter/form that I need to get sent with my new passport? -  to show to Thai Immigration when I return to Thailand to transfer my retirement visa and re-entry stamps from old passport to new?

I want name so I can check I will get this letter/form when using online application or if anyone has done this and knows?

    Thanks

  12. I need to renew my UK passport in UK and then transfer my retirement visa and re-entry permit into new passport when I return to Thailand.

I want to renew UK passport in UK using online service.

What is the name of the letter/form that I need to get to show to Thai Immigration when I ask to transfer my visa and re-entry stamps?

  13. Putin is a criminal and thug!

His pattern of behavior and laughable denials have stacked up to make him unfit for office.

There is something about Russian behaviour that has no bounds of restraint. No wonder they are often linked to human rights abusers like China and shunned by the international community. This weak Putin plea to move on is simply because of the pain repercussions have caused.

Best outcome is to grind Putin into dust as he's liable to overstep norms whenever he thinks its deserved. The trend is not our friend.

  14. As mentioned I am in UK currently and no significant other in Los these days.

When I was in Thailand I did ask at immigration and told I would get renewal out to passport expiry date - fine.

That was BEFORE this new related issue arose when there was no doubt or changes afoot, that some have said requires a full 12 months validity.

I'm happy with ubonjoe's answer thanks.

  15. Some must be confused or the excerpt in my original post would not have been written.

I am in uk now and return later this year. I don't want a new passport yet as I have to deal with Thai lawyers and court after my father's death with no Will and all copies with lawyer etc are of my current passport, so for ease and as i don't mind losing 2 months, I want to remain with current passport and not add another layer of issue. My ONLY concern was if it was true that I could not renew at all without full 12 months validity which ubonjoe has confirmed is not the case.

  16. I read the below in a thread.....

"I believe under the new rules (2019), an extension will be refused if you have less than 12 months on your passport.  This is due to the ongoing 12 month requirement of financials, be it monthly income or 'cash in the bank'."

    My question....

My renewal date is 14/3/20 and my passport expires on 15/1/21

I am fine if renewal only goes to 15/1/21 instead of 14/3/21, but above note suggests it may be refused if not a full years validity left when applying for annual retirement extension in 14/3/20?

It would help if I could keep original passport and get only iro 10 months extension from 14/3/20 to 15/1/21, but is this going to work without problem?
