Thaksin submits application for royal clemency
anchadian replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
According to news reports from reporters at the justice ministry, inmate Thaksin Shinawatra could request parole after serving one-third of his sentence. Since his sentence was reduced from 8 years to 1 year, he could apply for parole in 4 months from now. So far, Thaksin has spent less than a day in a medical ward inside the Bangkok Remand Prison when he returned on August 22 before being transferred for treatment at the Police General Hospital on the night of his arrival. His time at the hospital is being counted as time served in jail. According to regulations, Thaksin could serve his time at a hospital for up to 120 days if granted permission by Corrections Department director-general Aryut Sinthoppan. Thaksin has been at the hospital for 10 days now, and if he desires to extend his stay beyond 120 days, he can seek permission from the justice minister. The anticipated new justice minister is Tawee Sodsong, who is also the new leader of the Prachachart Party, one of the parties in the Pheu Thai-led government. https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1697558102919491809 -

Now, the most worrying condition is his heart, she said. However, there has been no plan to transfer him to a private hospital. As for the request for royal pardon, it will be left to the discretion of her father. The lawyer Winyat Chartmontri, who accompanied Ms. Paetongtarn to hospital said he did not meet Mr. Thaksin and did not know his latest condition. His daughter met him alone. He must be well enough to leave his hospital bed. The Department of Corrections will allow no more than ten close family members, lawyers or relatives to visit former inmate #Thaksin on Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the VVIP room on the 14th floor of the Maha Bhumibol Rachanusorn Building, Police Hospital. https://twitter.com/KhaosodEnglish/status/1695959693703983165

Pol Lt Gen Dr Sopnarush Singhajaru, Surgeon General of Police General Hospital, said former PM Thaksin Shinawatra is treated like any other inmate at the hospital. Thaksin isn't in a premium royal suite or an air-conditioned room, but due to age and medical reasons, he's exempt from handcuffs as per the law. He said the room treating Thaksin was converted from a former Covid patient room. Thaksin engages with doctors but retains high blood pressure, he added. The police cordoned off the 14th floor for security. Pol Maj Gen Nakarin Sukontawit stated they aid Corrections officials in safeguarding Thaksin and deny rumors of another hospital transfer. https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1694264387958448619
