🎭 Title: "The Great Garage Debate" Characters: Petey Petrol – a proud, slightly outdated petrol car Evie Volt – a sleek, modern electric vehicle Narrator – sets the scene and delivers facts [Scene opens in a garage. Petey Petrol is revving loudly. Evie Volt hums quietly.] Narrator: Welcome to the Great Garage Debate, where two cars battle it out for eco-supremacy! Petey Petrol: Listen here, Evie. I’ve got heritage! Muscle! The roar of a real engine! Evie Volt: Roar? More like noise pollution. I glide silently. And I don’t cough out carbon every time I move. Petey Petrol: But I can refuel in five minutes. Beat that! Evie Volt: True. But I charge while you sleep. And I don’t make you pay for overpriced dinosaur juice. Narrator: Fact check! EVs cost less to run per kilometer and require fewer maintenance checks—no oil changes, no exhaust repairs. Petey Petrol: But what about range anxiety? I go the distance! Evie Volt: And I go smarter. Regenerative braking, instant torque, and software updates while you’re stuck in the past. Narrator: Let’s talk emissions. Petey here emits around 2.3 kg of CO₂ per liter of fuel burned. Evie? Zero tailpipe emissions. Petey Petrol: Okay, okay... but I smell like freedom! Evie Volt: You smell like benzene and regret. Narrator: And the verdict? While petrol cars had their time, the future is electric—cleaner, quieter, and smarter. [Evie Volt glides out of the garage. Petey Petrol sputters sadly.] Petey Petrol: Maybe I’ll retire and become a coffee table...

Not really, every household relies on electricity to live. On average an EV adds about 4kwhrs per day to the average consumption. -

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
JBChiangRai replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
We live at Buffalo Hill in Chiang Rai, they will get up the steep slopes here, but my partner's does it faster but I'm 30kg heavier and the speed slowly drops to 13kmhr. We are both very able bodied and these scooters were purchased for fun. I bought one in the 8.8 Lazada sale, it passed muster, so we bought the second one on Shopee for just under 14,000 THB delivered. We've done a few trips of about 25km, riding them is fairly intuitive but you do need to scan the road surface as the wheels are only 10" inflated to 50psi. Surprisingly, they are easily ridden at night as the spotlight is excellent with a great range. I was tempted to buy a 1000watt Sealup for the same price, but was worried about quality. I'd make the same decision again and I would recommend the Xiaomi Scooter Elite to anyone with less than a 20% gradient (1 in 5). Is your wife's Lithium batteries or lead acid? -

These will do a 20% gradient, they are only 400 watts, you can get models with 1,000 watt motors that will go anywhere for about the same price from Sealup. I chose Xiaomi because I like the brand and they have a 6 way BMS, so hopefully won’t catch fire. They are more expensive than most, though a lot cheaper than Segway’s ninebot. We fold them flat and put them in the back of the Seal for awayday fun (O&A as someone would say, if you know, you know). -

Fire Electric Car Catches Fire at Bangkok Repair Workshop
JBChiangRai replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
Let's not forget, EV's are between 10 and 130 times LESS likely to catch fire than a gas car. -
I wonder how many IQ points you dropped between 14 and 26? I guess we will never know.

Even allowing for the thickness of the tyre, that car looks lowered to me and I'll bet they drove it over something. The battery technology is NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) which will catch fire if punctured, LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) technology is much safer. -

Except EV's are between 10 and 130 times LESS likely to catch fire than a gas car. I had the same car as this one and there is a recall out for the battery because of faulty manufacture and fire risk. Also, some people have been stupid enough to lower their Taycan which increases the risk enormously (and voids their insurance in case of fire). -
I'm considering taking Metformin for off label reasons
JBChiangRai replied to Jingthing's topic in Health and Medicine
I do have some kidney disease, but it’s stabilized since I changed medication with known kidney toxicity. Metformin is believed to have some kidney protection effects. The major study in off-label use was about 2,000 nuns IIRC. -

I took it off-label for its anti-aging properties; however it gave me kidney stones, and my urologist told me to stop taking it. -

Toyota’s hidden engine has been unveiled
JBChiangRai replied to CatCage's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Yes, Hydrogen (H2) is great. It cost five times more per kilometer than a battery electric car. You take your electricity and instead of putting it straight in your battery car, you electrolyze water to make hydrogen and oxygen, you then use electricity to compress that so you can put it into tankers. Then you drive the tankers to your local fuel station using hydrogen in the process. Then you use more electricity to transfer into the fuel station tanks. Then you use more electricity to pump it into your car. then your car probably uses a fuel cell which is about 50% efficient as it wastes a lot in heat reducing the whole thing to 20% of the efficiency of having a battery electric car in the first place. Sorry, you're post was for a Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine not a Fuel Cell, how does 8 times more expensive to run than EV grab you? So consumers will love the hydrogen car because it cost five to eight times more to run. Where do I order one? Post Script: Hydrogen has been tried in a few countries, every one failed. Even the Hydrogen production companies are saying quite clearly that Hydrogen will not be used in passenger cars. -

There isn't a week goes by without Toyota announcing something that will kill EV's, it's all nonsense. If you want to know why Toyota's V8 Hydrogen engine will fail, watch the video, or maybe you're happy with 80 miles range? -
I started writing to them 2 years before retirement age, however they were turning around letters in 9 months. I realised letters wasn't going to sort it and tried dozens of times with skype and kept getting cut off and time was running out. I worked out how many years I needed to fill and sent the money to HMRC NI DEFICIENCY ACCT as shown in my HSBC list of payees, there were dozens of HMRC accounts to choose from and this seemed the most suitable. I followed it up with a letter (recorded delivery) telling them what I paid by year and please credit it to me. Miraculously, they did.

Indonesia has the same tariff as Thailand (19%), won't BYD be able to export cars from Thailand at the same rate? I'm sure Vinny will know..... -

Thailand has a superb charging network, you don't need to worry about that, just plan to charge in advance if you're up country. You don't need a wallbox to charge, I have a friend who only charges at charging stations, mostly PTT's where she can have a coffee in Amazon and she's on her way in 30 minutes. Current expert thinking is that battery packs will last the life of the car. Statistics point to gas cars catching fire between 10 and 130 times more often than EV's, if you're worried about the fire risk, buy an EV, it's a LOT less likely to catch fire. Currently, if you charge at home it will 4 or 5 times cheaper than putting gas in your vehicle, if you charge at charging stations it will still be half the price of filling a gas car. I don't think you have to be worried about the price of electricity, remember the entire population needs it in their homes, I doubt you will ever see it significantly outpace inflation. -
