Big bike forced off road by car on Bangkok highway - video
JBChiangRai replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
If you look at this from a civil action point of view. If the biker sued for damages. The bike shouldn’t be on the road so he has an issue with the clean-hands doctrine. The dashcam video doesn’t help his cause, he appears to be riding recklessly. The car driver’s legal representative would most likely ask the court to dismiss any claim for damages quoting the clean-hands doctrine. Regarding the car suing the biker for damages, it would most likely be dismissed because the car driver made a maneuver which was too rapid and reckless. Nil-Nil -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand
JBChiangRai replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
What do you EV owners think a one year old MG4 X Model with 18k km is worth? I’ve made an offer on one, my eldest daughter has one, upgraded with body kit and aftermarket larger wheels and tyres. She can be jealous so this used one for her younger sister might avoid WW3. -

I think you watched a different video. I am not even convinced there was contact or that the car driver was aware of the accident. -
What happen to the insurance when selling the car
JBChiangRai replied to CanNot's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
You’re right, I was assuming any driver policies. I may be wrong but I think named driver policies started with Roojai. I’ve never seen it offered until recently. With named drivers you would need to tell the insurance company who may want an extra fee if they consider the risk increases or may even decline. Roojai have offered to refund me in the past if I didn’t pass the insurance across to the car’s new owner. -

What happen to the insurance when selling the car

The insurance goes with the car, the insurance company would like to be notified, but it’s not mandatory. -

You are correct. I only provided analysis up to the point of the accident, what happened afterwards doesn’t affect blame for the accident. Even miss and run is a crime, we don’t know there was a hit and we don’t know the driver knew there was an accident. Hit and Run is a very serious and egregious crime. -

I don’t agree, the law describes where you can overtake and it’s almost always the right lane, it can be the left lane under specific circumstances. You are breaking the RTA by passing in the middle because you’re not following the law. I accept you can ride lane splitting, but you must not pass any vehicle if there is traffic behind you. -
Big bike forced off road by car on Bangkok highway - video
JBChiangRai replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
No, you missed the qualification, it can only be done when there is no other vehicle behind, there were lots of vehicles behind, even the dashcam. Section 45. No driver shall overtake other conveyance by the left side of the overtaken conveyance, except in the following cases: (1) the conveyance which is going to be overtaken is turning right, or gives right turning signal; (2) such road is divided into two or more lanes of the same direction. The overtaking by the left side of the overtaken conveyance under (1) or (2) may be done only when there is no other conveyance following behind. -

IMHO as an ex-magistrate, I would find them both guilty. First, looking at the motorbike, his offences under the Thai RTA were, Section 44 no indicator, no lane splitting in the run up to the accident Section 45 overtaking on the left. This illegal maneuver put him in a position where the car driver did not expect him to appear had he been aware of what was behind him. The car driver's offences, Section 44 no indicator, and clearly not checking his mirror before making the maneuver. There are other offences that committed that I would consider unreasonable but a belligerent policeman might try to pursue. For riders out there, be aware lane splitting is not legal in Thailand, you have to be in a designated lane. You can only overtake on the right except under special circumstances, eg vehicle ahead turning right etc, you must use your indicators when overtaking. The MG was driving without due care, I don't think it was deliberate, he probably never saw the bike, deliberate actions follow a longer aggressive run up to the accident. -
I’ve always said Musk makes decisions on emotion often with appalling consequences. He had a very public spat with the head of the company that licensed LIDAR to Tesla when he refused to drop the price and he said FU we’ll go camera based. I always thought he was going down a blind alley and at some point legislation would make him backtrack. I do think that is coming, it will only take one death that could have been avoided. Apparently it’s coming to a head with his robotaxi. I read the below this morning. QUOTE Several AI and autonomous vehicle experts told InsideEVs that Tesla's technical approach to its self-driving cars is flawed. Tesla only uses cameras and AI on the Robotaxi whereas rivals like Waymo use a more comprehensive sensor suite including radar and LIDAR UNQUOTE.

Using air conditioning and humidifiers together
JBChiangRai replied to poppysdad's topic in General Topics
You've got it mostly right. On an inverter model the compressor speed will be adjusted based on how far off the set temperature is from the ambient temperature, it doesn't have anything to do with airflow unless you have selected an airflow which is too slow to support the speed it would like to run the compressor in which case the compressor's maximum speed will be throttled. You're right in saying the compressor could be delivering anything between 3,000 and 12,000 BTU depending on the gap between set & ambient temperatures. If you want less dehumidification, set the airflow as high as possible (this is true on both inverter and non-inverter units). The room temperature will be maintained just the same but less dehumidification will take place. I think you may have been talking about the fan's "Auto" setting. The air con will adjust both compressor speed and fan speed based on how far apart the set temperature and the ambient temperature are. I disagree on choosing Japanese units, the newer Chinese ones, eg TCL are every bit as good and less than half the price. -
Good Cat is still a possibility.

best alternative to a fixline internet provider
JBChiangRai replied to motdaeng's topic in IT and Computers
Try using static IP addresses. It's not a cure but it may fix the symptoms. I had this with mobiles, we found another router on the network badly configured as an access point. Our network spans 6 houses over a kilometer in distance. -
It would be nice to see gap insurance in Thailand, but it would just result in fraud.

I've replied to the new adverts, they don't have D model, they are just too lazy to update their graphics and want to bait and switch.
-
I sent lots of messages on facebook over the last 4 days, including MG HQ who said they have no more stock. They all replied either with "only have X model" or asked my phone/line only to try and switch and bait because they have no more D model. I prefer the MG4 it's a much more modern design with a lifetime battery warranty and I think buying one under a year old might be the best option. I also have to be careful because we will have World War 3 in my household if I buy anything too nice. MG4 X model would be ok providing it doesn't have body kit and upgraded alloy wheels. IMHO, the moment a manufacturer discounts a car, all the used ones take an immediate hit. Tents get stuck with cars that owe them too much. The Chinese understand the model of buying market share. We have seen them do it with air conditioners and other electrical goods. If you price them similar to existing brands then people won't buy them. I think the lowered prices are the new reality.

If you’re not married and the insurance company is not subject to oversight by the regulator (ie officially authorized to sell to Thai people) then that could be why. It could be one of the many Ponzi schemes that pay claims out of premiums.

Where to travel in Thailand in October
JBChiangRai replied to CharlieH's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
I agree with having your holidays abroad and paid from overseas, no tax implications. I’ve had 6 this year, I’m not bringing money into Thailand this year or next year. I am thinking of spending less than 180 days here in future. -
I agree, I’ve been trying to buy one for my youngest daughter but there are none left, they only have the X model at 699K. I’ve offered 500k on a one year old, <20k kms, MG4 X model, let’s see if I’m successful with that. Roojai’s EV quotes are now ridiculous, we’ll be going elsewhere next year.

The exchange rate helped Hummin. I like good wines and I found in the supermarket at about same price I buy in Thailand. 5* Hotel, pizza was 300 baht, Aus grain fed tenderloin wrapped in bacon 600 baht, you can eat at local restaurants for half that. Taxi rides 26 baht with Grab. -
Using air conditioning and humidifiers together
JBChiangRai replied to poppysdad's topic in General Topics
Warm air can contain more moisture than cool air, if you cool warm moist air the dew point lowers and water can condense out, you see this dripping out the drain pipe of you air con's waste. If your fan is running slowly and the air con is currently cooling at (say) 12,000 BTU the air coming out the air con will be colder than if the fan is running at a high speed while cooling at the same rate of (say) 12,000 BTU. Running at a high fan speed cools the room slightly more as if it were running slow, but the air coming out is warmer and because it's warmer the dew point is higher and less water is condensed out. The reason running the fan faster cools the room slightly more is that condensing water out of the air uses some of your cooling capability, the less you condense water the more cooling capacity is used to cool the air. -
TCL switched from motorised left to right to manual some time ago.

On my units, if you cycle through the fan speeds, you will get a loudspeaker symbol struck out diagonally, like a mute symbol. Mine doesn't have a button for it, but it appears before you get to the first bar for slow speed. According to Lazada, TCL is the market leader in Thailand. Daikin & Mitsubishi don't come close to them for VFM combined with reliability. There has been a quiet revolution in Thailand over the last 4-5 years with aircons. The Chinese have come in and taken market leading position. We're seeing something similar with EV's, BYD is now the third largest automaker in Thailand by sales volume and will probably be second only to Toyota soon.

The Star rating IIRC isn't based on efficiency but on absolute power draw. (edit: I might be wrong on this, it looks like it's changed from when I last looked when it used to just be a number).
