  1. I’m aware of both. I’m also aware that Britain has a housing crisis and that this was not caused by asylum seekers, regardless of how they arrived. Could money spent housing asylum seekers be spent elsewhere? Yes of course. So get on, clear the applications, pass bona fide asylum seekers into society where they can work to keep themselves, contribute and pay taxes. Deport those found to be bogus asylum seekers. Would money saved by doing this be spent on the homeless? I very much doubt it, certainly not by this Government.
  2. Non of this is about any Labour failures you might want to throw in as a bit of whataboutary. Let’s hold the Government of the day accountable for the failures of government of the day.
  3. Perhaps you did, perhaps you saw nothing of the sort. The absence of any links suggests the latter.
  4. That doesn’t get you out of your baseless accusation. So you move directly to the ad hominem.
  5. Throw in a housing crisis red-herring. 14 years to fix it, not fixed, so let’s blame asylum seekers and give the Government a free pass on another one of its failures.
  6. Virtue signaling ‘ex military’. This Government has it in its power to help the ex military if it chooses to do so. Nothing at all whatsoever to do with asylum seekers.
  7. An odd accusation given's that I have frequently and consistently argued that asylum applications should be cleared to allow bona fide asylum seekers to move into society, earn their own keep, contribute and pay taxes while bogus asylum seekers should be identified and deported. It is the Government’s failure to do this that is wasting taxpayers’ money.
  8. Not a warm sunlit upland insight, let alone a unicorn.
  9. ‘Got nothing’ you say. How about the inconvenient fact that Labour haven’t been in power for over 14 years?
  10. Here’s the proof: https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/aug/07/legal-reprieve-asylum-seekers-bibby-stockholm-dorset-barge
  11. There’s irony in ignorance. A central issue of the Government’s failed management of the UK’s asylum system is the fact that bona fide asylum seekers are left in limbo at tax payers expense when they could be cleared to enter society, earn their own keep, contribute and pay taxes.
  12. Obviously a legal challenge is coming. But the Government got the headline they need to distract some of the electorate.
  13. You are being a bit choosy on the ‘out performed metric. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn02791/#:~:text=In 2022%2C ranked on GDP,below Germany and the US.
  14. I’ve read the article, I’ve also read other articles offering other points of view. I look forward to reading the reports of legal challenges and I will undoubtedly get to read articles on the continuing failure of the Government’s already failing asylum policies.
  15. I don’t think we are discussing a country that is ‘booming’.
  16. Perhaps it could, but there’s no profit in that for the Government’s chums. Shall we make a list of other Government schemes that transfer tax payer’s money to Government chums and see what other ‘good causes’ it could be used for?
  17. You obviously don’t understand, refusing to board a vessel has no bearing on an individual’s right to have their asylum claim assed, nor on the Government’s duty under international and UK law to fairly assess such asylum claims. Perhaps you should release your own ‘political shackles’ and start admitting the obvious failures of this Government to manage and clear asylum claims, be they bona fide or bogus. Nobody is objecting to the removal of bogus asylum seekers, the Government need to get on with the duty of assessing the claims, removing the bogus and moving those with bona fide claims into the community where they can work, keep themselves, pay taxes and contribute to society and the economy.
  18. To do so would entail first reviewing their asylum claims, something the Government is failing to do, hence the ever increasing backlog.
  19. Utter garbage. Nobody objects to bogus asylum seekers being deported. The problem is sorting out those who are bogus, The Government has failed and is failing to clear asylum applications. Do try to post without infringing the auto delete function, it’s not difficult to do, you just need to avoid using offensive language.
  20. OK, if you say so: https://fullfact.org/immigration/braverman-asylum-initial-decision-backlog/
  21. Do you think the Japanese took any notice of American leaflets? The US had cracked Japanese signaling codes, they knew exactly what the Japanese response was.
  22. Do you understand the difference between an individual making a choice that puts them at risk and a Government making a choice that puts an individual at risk?
  23. Because the Government are failing to clear asylum applications.
