  1. Correct, it’s a tragedy. But in the context of this discussion, there something worse than ‘understatement’, denial. Nobody who follows the UK news has any excuse for not being aware that millions of people in the UK are unable to afford regular meals, that millions of school children are turning up hungry. It’s wide reported in the press. And yet we have the usual suspects denying this reality, demanding they be shown evidence, which they ignore anyway. It’s a callous denial of the suffering of others that defines the rightwing.
  2. In 2020/21, before the cost of living crisis bit, the UK Government published a report stating “In 2020/21, 4.2 million people (6%) were in food poverty, including 9% of children. Wriggle away: https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-9209/
  3. Up next ‘Tory Austerity 2’. The bit where an unelected PM, cosseted by his tax avoiding wife’s billions tells the already struggling nation they need to cut back on public spending and services. This isn’t going to end well.
  4. I tried the informative post with credible links attached. A waste of time, reality can’t get through, except of course for the millions struggling to feed themselves, pay their bills and keep a roof over their head. It is they that will decide the next election. Sticking one’s head in the sand to deny reality isn’t going to help, but I guess it provides short term relief from unwelcome facts.
  5. Quit gaslighting already. The hike in UK mortgage interest rates was a direct result of the idiot Tory mini budget. And here’s a thing, people in the UK witnessed it happening, people in the UK are facing massively increased mortgage payments. Those people aren’t in the least bit concerned about what’s happening elsewhere, their focus is feeding their families, paying their bills and keeping a roof over their heads. If ignoring these realities provides you with some comfort don’t make the mistake of believing it comforts those facing real hardship.
  6. Holding cops accountable for extrajudicial killings is good thing. If cops are inclined not to go around murdering people, that too is a good thing. Its certainly not a portent of the ‘Cassandrian doom’ you are so fond of.
  7. I think viewing anything that comes out of the Kremlin as lies and misinformation is probably a good place to start. Unfortunately the Kremlin knows they can rely on what they refer to as ‘useful idiots’ to back their propaganda and psychological warfare.
  8. By example, It wasn’t COVID that just hiked mortgage rates.
  9. I can’t say there’s any pleasure in demonstrating this truth to you: https://www.sustainweb.org/news/voicesofthehungry/ https://www.trusselltrust.org/2018/03/19/calls-grow-government-measure-hidden-hunger/ https://www.bigissue.com/news/social-justice/food-poverty-in-the-uk-the-causes-figures-and-solutions/
  10. I’m not sure anything this Government has done to the UK can be reasonably described as ‘progressive’. I’m very much in favour of this Government serving its full term, tge Tories need to deal with the mess they have created.
  11. How about addressing my post and pointing out which of the observations I have made are incorrect? The polls suggest the voting public disagree with you alternative options.
  12. Nothing cryptic at all, just the latest example of the outrage and offense you claim doesn’t exist. Importing claimed ‘off forum’ views to insert whataboutary and to feed to need to be offended. Anything at all to avoid discussing the topic of the thread, including feigned confusion.
  13. Sunak won’t be able to hold the Tories together. The economy is already in recession, 8 million people in the UK can’t afford regular meals, the NHS is collapsing ( before winter), mortgage interest rates are climbing, electrical power isn’t guaranteed through the winter, schools are running out of money, GP waiting times are over two weeks, getting an NHS dentist appointment is near on impossible, industrial action is increasing, leveling up never happened, ‘sunny uplands’ can’t be found. And they s week’s Prime Minister is warning of hard times to come, seemingly unaware that for many millions ‘hard times are already here’.
  14. Justice Thomas, he who’s wife was herself directly involved in trying to overturn the election result. Impeach Justice Thomas on grounds of corruption and perverting the course of Justice.
  15. That’s an odd statement given that a number of members, myself included, very clearly stated the idea only white people can be racist is patently wrong. I guess that’s why you inserted (not necessarily on this forum). Your ‘outrage addiction’ has driven you to arguing about a point of view nobody here has expressed. @Paul Cattontake note.
  16. *Deleted post edited out* You brought it up. ”Is that really such an issue for British people ?”
  17. So how did those Indonesian farm labourers get visas, was it their high rates of pay? https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/aug/14/uk-farm-workers-kent-debt-indonesian-brokers
  18. You are deluding yourself.
  19. EE workers were not employed on ‘minimum wage’. And the Tories are in the process of repealing rafts of laws on worker rights. If you thought the East Europeans were taking ‘British Jobs’ you are going to be thrilled with the replacement, it’s not going to be British workers and they are going yo be cheap.
  20. EE workers are not cheap. The Indian workers the Tories plan to replace them with will be a lot cheaper.
  21. Sunak is the new PM.
  22. A gave a list of examples further up this thread.
  23. If wasn’t shown as a deduction on your payslip you didn’t pay it. Stop making stuff up.
