Well, they still use Britain as the measure of how civilised their country is and indeed Thailand and most other countries still imitate British culture to legitimise their systems and adopted traditions.

Student mortar boards, judges wigs and gowns, army uniforms among many other adopted customs are examples.

Well not that long ago the sun never set on the empire ???? ....  Once I get my time machine working I will post on here. Special TV travel promotion ..

I am sure I will get a great response

Maybe i should start 'pre-booking' . with a 30% discount ???? ...  Are you in the travel business by any chance ?

That pretty much sums it up as good as any post on here. thanks.

I was content with her as a long term prospect before Covid.

    I still am.

So the larger part of it, i think, is the frustrations these travel restrictions bring...

The hopelessness and the knowing one cant do a daมน thing about it,

and the realization that having the ability to make certain choices for the future has now been completely taken away from many of us.

Well nothing last forever .. C19 included ... I bet you 100$ that in 6 to 12 months you will be able to return ????  ....

Correct. When the British consumer do not buy whatever product, the supermarkets will soon stop with that product.  But what happens, if it is a 10 cents / kg cheaper is British grown ?

People with eat it ... The only people who will not are the once who can 'afford' to buy it are the people who want to pay the 'extra'.  A bit like when organic food started to hit the shelves ...  'Eaten by the food elite' .. then it became mainstream ....

I wonder what they do if 'they' visit US ... bring food from uk ????

  4. Let me chip in with how I see it ...

I am pretty sure that it will be < 12 months before you can get back.  You got Putin and his crew out with a vaccine of some sort ... and in the next 3 to 6 months you will have other countries joining as well.

If you knew .. with 90% certainty that it would be < 12  months ... would you still be sending her support ?  No matter how little ... its more than nothing ...  and if she is appreciative and she does communicate with you regularly.

    Would you still pay ?

and I thought because they really fought against the corruption

and look at them now ... the most prosper, cleanest, safest, ...

But also a rather boring place ???? .....   Not a place I would want to live in ... but yes it has many things going for it from a 'western' perspective ...

To some degree i found that Malaysia was a 1/2 way house ... 555 ... between Singapore and Thailand ...  But all in all, I rather spend my time in Thailand ???? .

Government officers are paid well enough and get early retirement free health care and good pensions. The reason for low corruption in Singapore was that if caught the penalties were real and not worth the risk. Here they can get away with it, nobody ever seems to lose their jobs.

.... are you saying that accounting for the cost of living .. the pay is the same in Thailand and Singapore?

Very good point, but what will the UK government's representatives in Thailand do to assist those who refuse to pay???

555555 and who in UK will prosecute you ?  That statement is something that a PLC should worry about when they do multi million deals with a foreign government ......

Do not you realize this officers family wwill now starve on his regular salary

I have spent some time in Singapore - It was explained to me that one of the key reasons that you have so little corruption in Singapore was because from the inception of Singapore the government made a deliberate policy of paying the civil service and the police above what was normal at the time to enable a comfortable life - That mixed with a good pension and very strict anti corruption measurement have ensured the very low level of corruption you have in Singapore.

  9. If you feel 100% sure that you have LESS trips when the adjustment is set to 5mA than when its set to 30mA then I would say that the safety trip measuring circuit (RCCB) is faulty and you need to change the unit.

5mA or 30mA is not measuring resistance – it is measuring the imbalance between N and L.  In other words if you have 5mA difference .. it will trip .. if you have 30mA it will trip.

What is causing this imbalance ?  It will happen if you have a ground fault. One of the ‘wires’ have a short to ground.

As 30mA is a higher value than 5mA .. it should trip more easily at 5mA than at 30mA  - You will always have some imbalance .. a few mA ....  Typical 30mA is a for a complete installation 5 or 6mA  .. for just the electric shower ...   On a side note .. Desktop PC power Supplies  can be notorious for having some leakage current - especially if a few years old.
