  1. You prefer insulting their intelligence?
  2. If a single Thai person doesn't have a helmet, their choice to live or possibly die. Don't you think it crosses a line when they put their children at risk as well?
  3. Racing drivers wear helmets, I am not a racing driver. Cars have safety features such as seatbelts and airbags, scooters do not. I've been driving cars and pickups for over 60 years. I've been rear-ended and T-boned. Never had a front-on collision. I guess I must be doing something right, how about you?
  4. Nothing to do with a nanny state, common sense and road fatality statistics should tell people to wear a helmet. Are you one of those people that think wearing a helmet infringes on your personal freedumb? Would you expect the state or a GoFundMe to look after you, when you become a paraplegic as a result?
  5. It did not work that way for me in Chiang Rai. I suppose like Immigration, banks have rules which vary from branch to branch. For years, Chiang Rai Immigration accepted a 6 month bank statement. This year, they changed it to 12.
  6. I transfer lump sums via WISE every 3-4 months. I made Thai and Australian wills more than 5 years ago. What's in Thailand goes to my GF, what's in Australia goes to my son. I understand probate in Thailand is about six months. I have a joint account with my GF. It has enough in it to last her several years. Apologies for going off topic.
  7. I did not have my usual drink of water before going to bed last night. I don't think it made any difference.
  8. Each to his own. You have a fair margin of safety with your US pension on exchange rates. Australian pensions are not as generous.
  9. Question for the OP: My last extension was November 3, 2024. Prior to that, I had BB and KK accounts, both with over 800K. The 800K in the BB account was used to support the retirement extension. The BB account is with a Chiang Mai branch. The KK account is in Chiang Rai. I would like to close the CM account, and transfer to CR as more convenient. There is also the fact BB needs a week to get a 12 month statement, whereas KK can do the statement immediately. Can I use the KK account to support my 2025 extension?
  10. I tried the income transfer method once. I found it was a major PITA, because I was having to transfer a mix of pension and capital, and also be wary of exchange rate fluctuations. YMMV, but to me the 800K is far simpler. I transfer lump sums from the pension accumulating in an Australian account. Lower fees that way as well, and I can time transfers for better exchange rates.
  11. I see children on scooters without helmets so often the sight is no longer remarkable. I do wonder at a risk assessment thought process, which seems to make wearing face masks on a scooter a better preventative measure than a helmet.
  12. Your reading and comprehension skills could do with some upgrading. I did say I have Australian and Thai debit cards, and would be delighted to use them in a pay-wave system.
  13. I take it you did see where I am located?
  14. True, there's an opportunity cost. I have enough money to last longer than my life expectancy by a big margin, so it's not a concern. Is there a thread which identifies which regional offices have similar agent/IO relationships to Pattaya? I'm sure it would be of interest to most ASEAN members.
  15. Oh, an ASEAN sniper. Who asked you, buttinsky? IME people who pay with cash do it quickly. The majority of people I see paying with phones are incompetent when they do so. So you have never used those words? How saintly of you. Careful your halo does not choke you.
  16. Extension 1900 baht. Multiple re-entry 1900 baht. Leaving 8700 baht split between agent and IO. Agent has 800 K on deposit, earning 1% interest. Which office accepts a bribe that low?
  17. When I used to drink, I preferred Sangsom and cola. Seemed to taste better than Hong Thong. I was not referring to sweat as the cause of a wet bed. Useful info here, I normally have a glass of water before going to bed. I'll try sleep without it tonight.
  18. Figure of speech. I suppose it depends on whether people think they can do better elsewhere with the money. If an agent is charging 30,000 baht to avoid the financials, that equates to an interest rate of 30,000X100/800,000 = 3.75%. I would need to be making at least 2% more on outside investments to be worthwhile, and there's also tax to consider. YMMV, I can't be bothered.
  19. I always had the 800K on deposit in my own account, from the get-go.
  20. If I was too "bladdered" to get up, I guess I would end up with a wet bed instead. Not a problem for me, I only have one glass of wine about once every six months. Even then, there's a change in night frequency.
  21. I used an agent in CM for about 4 years. Charged me 7000 baht to hold my hand at Immigration. I realized I was doing all the grunt work in assembling the paper forms. I then did it myself in the ensuing years there and in Chiang Rai. No new non-O required. I don't understand your post, unless you are referring to agents who bribe the IO to look the other way, when it comes to the origin and age of the 800K deposit.
  22. Alcohol is a diuretic. I usually get up to pee 2-3 times a night. If I have a couple of glasses of wine, it will be 5-6 times.
  23. My defacto in Australia was 3 years younger than me. OK at first, increasingly got on my wick. Lazy, I did most of the cooking and washing. The final straw was getting a virulent UTI from her. My Thai GF is 23 years younger than me. She does all the cooking, washing, and cleaning, and never has a headache if I am feeling frisky. She is also a lot easier on the eye than my former defacto. I did read somewhere Western couples in Thailand have a divorce rate 50% higher than in their home country.
  24. Endoscopy seems to be a catch-all term in Thailand for anything using a camera. Gastroscopy = inspection of esophagus and stomach. Colonoscopy = inspection of rectum and bowel. Cystoscopy = inspection of prostate and bladder.
