I am suggesting people who have got their pension, and subsequently buy property in Thailand, won't necessarily report the purchase to Centrelink. Centrelink won't know, the Thai authorities won't be telling them. The gold bear market last century was due to three factors - decreasing inflation, a strong US dollar, and relatively stable economic conditions. None of which apply now. I did buy gold in that period, as I thought it was undervalued. Sat on it for 5 years, sold at a profit that was equivalent to 10% per year.
